Ok folks,

I've been researching the White sewing machine question for another forum, and came across this one.  It's real hard to put a figure on it, but it looks like people are valuing the ones they have on Ebay for around $150, on average, so I'd value a vintage White sewing machine at around $100 to $110.

I don't know the answer, but I know two places you can look.  Bob McDougal's Sewing Machines recently sold me the bobbins and a presser foot for a White Rotary Machine with the Serial # E-6354 & Motor # 3A-250V.  Ask for Doug when calling 713-864-2601, or write to him @ 1301 Yale, Houston, TX 77008. Good Luck! The family has been doing business with his company since the 1930's.  The other place you might have luck is Sewing Machine Warehouse, 17776 Tomball Parkway, Tomball, TX 77070, ask to speak to the manager when calling 281-469-5377.  He has been helpful also.

Found an old white sewing machine at an antique store, seriel #FR438056.  Didn't have a belt so went and bought a bag of assorted sized rubber bands.  The big blue one works, if that is any help for someone with no belt.

It's very hard to find parts for old sewing machines and I'm afraid many of the sewing machine shops aren't much help. One place I have found help is in a yahoo group called wefixit where they say they are "shade tree sewing machine mechanics". People ask for parts there too, plus I got a lot of good advice fixing my old machine.

Wow! Based on the answers I found here, I discoverd there are a lot of us in the same boat.  Today I bought a White Rotary USA machine at our local Goodwill store.  It included two metal boxes of foots, hemmers, and other fun things.  I am also looking for an age, how to obtain a belt, and a manual on how to run it.  It is beautiful!!  A couple of comments: First, Linda, you appear to be looking for a bobbin assembly.  I think I may have two.  I'd hate for your mother to not be able to use hers, so if you could fill me in more, I may be able to help!  Also, thank you'sto Athena for the website and Cissy for the phone numbers, they are the next place I will try!

In response to Susi's post on the price of a White machine at a pawn shop - it was $639 - it is now still for sale for just over $400.  I don't believe that this is a good deal.  I just purchased a White machine - last patent date is April 10, 1895.  It sold for $30.00 at an auction and it has the original manual, attachments, the cabinet is beautiful and in great shape.

I just had my belt replaced on my 1913 White Rotary FR2690336. It belonged to my mother who passed when I was 4 and I was very blessed to have gotten the machine. The manual is missing pages and the ones left are VERY brittle. I sewed on it in highschool, back when dinos roamed the earth, but I now need that manual. I tried the sites listed here but the pages had closed or had new names, which I don't know how to find.......HELP!!! Oh, belts can be found at lots of quilting stores...the old rawhide kinds.

I have a White Rotary Sewing Machine with many parts and accessories. It is the portable version with a solid wood carrier with Bakelite handle.  It's from about 1900-13 and is ornately decorated. It was owned by a nationally famous woman painter who recently passed on. It has all original parts, including the electrical cord and bobbins. I also have a book of poetry and drawings owned by the same wonderful, interesting woman.

I have a White Rotary given to me by the son of the original owner.  It is one with the FR 3...  serial numbers.  The cabinet is the same as "Ardith" above.  I just wanted to make sure that she knew that the top ends of the cabinet lift up and the storage runs about 11" deep. They are quite hidden to not-yet-sewers like myself and my friend. He had possession of the machine for several years before realizing the sides lift up.

I have a White Sewing Machine.  It looks like it might be from the 1950's.  It's electrical, and in a suitcase.  The serial number is 77MG101744.  Also, on the manufacturer's sticker, it gives this number, E-6354.  Does anyone know anything about this machine?  Is it worth anything? Thanks.

I have a 1913 (the latest date on the steel plate covering the bobin assembly) White Rotary, in a White cabnet w/ 4 drawers & 2 sm. cabnets.  I am wanting to know how to make a belt for the wheels.  I had made a belt w/ slim leather - which worked well for a long time;  made 1/2 a quilt & much more over the yr.s!  BUT, now the leather has stretched out.  I tried to remake the belt - w/ the same leather I'd used B-4, but for some reason, I cannot get it rite.  Is there a secret I do not know of?  Such as, a way to connect the ends of the belt/leather?!  Please, I want to continue sewing!!  I'd love any suggestions or ingenuity/tricks that you know of!  I just mainly want to know how to attatch the ends of the belt assembly on the White Rotary 1913, non-electric, foot peddle powered machine.  Thanx!

I have a white rotary machine, not electric, last pat. date 1913 that I bought in 1990 for $35.  It has attachments & instuction book.  It did not have a belt.  I made a belt from leather strips, attaching the ends w/ staples & florist tape.  Worked for a long time (I'm making a quilt, now), but the leather streatched out & when I tried to reattach it, it didn't work.  Any suggestions?

I have been in contact with the guy at a1sewingmachine about a need I have and he was very short and rude in his emails as if I were bothering him by asking if he could help.  I usually don't put such things on sites but he really rubbed me the wrong way and I don't expect such treatment from people who say they are in the customer service industry.

If you are looking for any old sewing machine parts, bobbins, manuals, help, Bob McDougal's Sewing Machines as seen above has them. I have a  Singer Feather Weight, a Singer treadle machine from the 1800s, a White Rotary and a Viking Huskvarna. They have stuff for all of them and knowledge too. Thank you Doug for your help.

I found a customer service number for The White Sewing Machine Co. 1-800-331-3164. If your machine has a serial # beginning with FR, then it is a White machine. Call the cust svc # and they can provide you with a manufacturer's date and may also be able to provide you with a dealer for old parts. The woman I talked to is even sending me copies of pages from an old manual on the attachments I have. No idea yet how to obtain an accurate appraisal, I'll write again if I find out any more info. I hope this will help many of you!

I also have just obtained a White Treadle Sewing Machine with the serial number FR252000.  It is in reasonable good shape with a little glue for the drawer decorations.  It comes with a lot of attachments and an original manual.  Does anyone know of the site or a phone number where one can call (I am in Canada) to find out the manufacture date?
Thanks

I have a last patented Sept. 12, 1905 white family rotary u.s.a. sewing machine FR277255.In very good condition, is it worth anything? Still in it's cabinet, the only thing wrong, is that it's foot pedal is broke.

I was researching about the price and ones from 1900-1920 and I met a collector about 3 months ago named Bob Jenkins. He buys for about $150,000 apiece. He lives in Las Vagas, Nevada. His phone number is 911-3428. I hope this helps people that are trying to sell~!

White Treadle Machines
For many of your questions, you may want to check out the Yahoo Groups sewing machine sites.  Wefixit group has alot of old sales and repair people along with collectors.  On ebay stitches in time sells parts and bobbins etc.  Cindy is great to help.  For anyone missing their gingerbread carvings, such as the wooden drawer pulls, I've crafted them out of sculpy and stained them.  Don't look bad at all.  Good luck and enjoy your machines!
