Why is hershey chocolate better than Nestles' chocolate?

An analysis of the ingredients doesn't give you any clues as to why Hershey's is any different to Nestle's, but my granny swears the reason she had sextuplets was from eating Nestle's during the vacation during which she got pregnant (I put it down to the fact that she was a - how can I put this - mature mother). My family is weird though; I have relatives who claim that their big boobs or hairy chests are due to consumption of various kinds of chocolate, one uncle in particular claiming that he lost pounds in weight by swallowing Cumming'sMilk Assortment without chewing (yes, he once was quite plump but now he's downright skinny)! I've tasted hundreds of chocs over the years and been through reams of articles on chocolate, yet for a cheap and cheerful bar, I award the cockade to Nestle's.

Both Hershey's and Nestle's are just awful. Most mass-produced American chocolate is awful. Hershey's always has a strange sour milk taste and smells slightly like vomit. Nestle's is usually stale and taste like cardboard. Hershey's attempt at dark chocolate (Special Dark) is not very good either. It's dry and has an unpleasant bitter aftertaste. Both the milk and dark varieties of Dove bars are pretty good, but the best chocolate is European chocolate, and by that I do NOT mean Cadbury's which is even worse than Hershey's in my opinion (WAY too sweet and hardly any chocolate taste). Food has never been the Brits' strong point, and that includes British chocolate. Lindt and Ghirardelli'sare easy to obtain, not overly expensive, and taste good. Target has a good line of designer chocolates called Choxie. Some of the flavors take some getting used to, though. (truffles with fillings made from Chipotle peppers, green tea, etc.) If you can afford it, Valrhona'sis excellent, but very hard to find unless you're in a big city with high end gourmet shops.

Nestles chocolate is "totally" better than Hershey chocolate...the taste is better and when cooking with Nestles things just come out better. That's my opinion :-)

I too agree that Nestles chocolate is better tasting than Hersheys. Especially the Nestles Crunch with Caramel :-}

i think hershey'sis much better than Nestle chocolate becaue it is smooth and creamy and it is sold for a very decent prise. face it!!! you have to admit, just when you take on little bit it melts in your mouth like nothing else does!!! it is the best thing ever!!!!

Hershey's is much better. Hershey's still tastes good from when i was a kid. nestles does not and i will not buy it anymore.

Why does Hershey's chocolate have that disgusting oily aftertaste? How on earth can it be so popular??? It's 4th rate chocolate, initially tasting just like the over-sugary Cadbury'sDairy Milk - but then to make it worse it has that aftertaste. The first time I tried Hershey's I thought I must have had a seriously stale bar! Nestle's chocolate isn't great, but...

I used to buy nothing but Hersey. However, over the last few years something has been changed as it does not taste the same. Nestle's has always tasted the same and you can't beat it. I wish they would leave a good recipe alone.

Hershey's original can't be beat. I've been a Hershey's lover for 46 years and the only other chocolate I buy from time to time is Dove's.

Hershey's melted in cream, pig's blood and white sweet vermouth is the best! I've tried this with various other chocolates (including the famous Menier cooking chocolate) and never had the same success.

Just been eating Hershey's here in the UK. I thought it was off as I got an aftertaste of vomit (think sicky-burps here) when I ate it. Urghhh..... Now reading about the 'rotting milk' backs up what my taste buds were telling me. You can keep it over there ! Nestle chocolate isn't great, but I prefer something that doesn't taste like it's on a return visit from my stomach.

Hershey's milk bars are waxy.........Nestle's crunch is the best..........Hershey dark chocolate milk ways----absolutely yummy..........and not sure where everyone's taste buds are........but Cadbury bought in Europe is the best......creamy, delicious........will agree it seems to taste a little different bought here,,,,,,,,but I will take a Cadbury milk chocolate over a nestle and particularly a Hershey bar any day.

Hershey along with all american chocolates stink big time. Anybody who thinks Hershey is good chocolate is a moron who has no delicate taste whatsoever. I would not put it in my mouth even if it was for free. Americans like them because that's what they are used to eating from childhood and they have no food culture whatsoever. Even the hamburger in US stinks. Everything is so much better in Europe. It is hard to realize why this is the case, considering Americans came from Europe in the first place.

OH MY GOSH PEOPLE...I WORK FOR NESTLE AND THE CHOCOLATE IS THE VERY BEST....NOT ONLY THAT BUT THE HEALTH BENEFITS ARE THE BEST IN THE NATION, I WAS RAISED IN PHILADELPHIA, HERSHEYS HAS CHANGED COMPARED TO 20 YEARS AGO. Frankly folks, American chocolate stinks as most other foods made/grown in North America. Europeans are much more sophisticated when it comes to sweets and food. No GM crap will sell there.

If you like Hershey's its probably because your American and have had your taste buds ruined by chemicals and additives. Hershey is totally poor chocolate with a very low chocolate content. Nestle isn't much better when compared with Beligian or Swiss chocolate which often has over 50% more chocolate in it. Bring a child up on a sub stabdard product and it is natural they will prefer it to something classy.

Ok heres the thing Hershey produce really really good luxuary chocolate but when it comes down to just wanting a good old chocolate bar nestle wins!

After having tasted chocolate from virtually every part of the world; yes that includes huaghty taughty Europe as well, there is NO QUESTION that Hershey's is better than European chocolate generally and better than Nestle in particular.

People I think that Hershey chocolate is the best because almost the moment you put it in your mouth it melts into a wounderful creamy blend of chocolate & the other Rich blends of chocolatey goodness but Nestles just Dosn't melt in your mouth the same way it have to suck it and suck it until you can bite and it just doesnt have the same rich creamy taste but thats only ny opinion.

In my opinion, I believe that ONCE Hershey's had a better taste, years ago. I know that Nestles has had the same consistent great taste for decades and decades and can be enjoyed, not just eaten.

Cote D'or is the absolute best- especially dark with pecans....Hersheys is awful- I will not eat chocolate if all there is is a hersheys kiss- grainy is what comes to mind- chocolate is all about the feel as it melts in your mouth- smooth and creamy...another good one that is now available in the US is Lindt- but understand they do change it when they sell it in the US- I don't know how but they do...and Nestles chocolate chips are much much better in cookies...

You are all wrong! SEE'S is the BEST. SEE'S uses real ingredients: real butter, real raspberry juice, etc. Fact: If you prefer dark chocolate, your taste is inclined to European chocolate. If you prefer milk chocolate, you prefer American chocolate. In case you haven't figured it out - Godiva is a rip-off!

I am reaserching and I think that Cadburys will always be better. It may cost more than Hershey but it is definately worth it. Hersheys puts something in it to keep it good in the weather and that completly ruins the taste. I'll ask my class to take a vote and Hersheys will lose again! Also England is better

The only good N. American chocolate is Bernard Callebaut. Otherwise, purchase Europeon chocolate. ie: Swiss, German, Belgian or France. American chocolate is fine when your 7 years old, otherwise, its crap.

I agree with the answer to the statement that Hershey's is an acquired taste from childhood. Also, genetics, pH balance, and vitamin deficiency or vitamin toxicity may change how chocolate tastes. If you grew up on one brand and suddenly it seems like the recipe changed, it didn't. Your body chemistry changed. Hershey's recipe has been the same since the day it started. I've learned, through research that, if you are addicted to the Hershey's brand your blood type is more often than not type O. 46% of Americans have type O blood, which is why it is the best selling.
