It's becoming more of one all the time, largely because it is creating a situation in which the young people of tribal cultures are leaving their homelands and moving into the cities to work.  It's generally the case that those who do leave shed as many of their customs as possible in order to become "city people."  That leaves hereditary shamanic practice with no one to pass it on to, and those ways eventually die out.

The loss of tribal lands to various kinds of development is another factor endangering shamanic practices; with the spirituality of the shaman tied so intimately with the land, loss of land can equal loss of connection to the spirits.
