Nicole, There are really no such thing as a "teecup" Yorkie. Some breeders are just trying to sell them to you, or just don't know that much about the breed to know that there is not such a thing. There are some Yorkies smaller then others weighting 2 to 3 or lower, I would no recommend because some often have more health problems, because of such a small size. Try yorkiesdirect.com they have more information on the subject.

I am new at this! I am looking for 1 or 2 yorkie males. I have already experienced the joy of yorkie companionship. Teddy was our rescued yorkie (patient) who miraculously survived to be 15 yrs. old in no pain and very happy, thanks to our veterinarian. Champ lived to be 1 month short of 18 years old in perfect health. He passed away shortly after his chum, Teddy. Currently we have an 18-month-old yorkie male, Oliver. We are looking for a chum or chums for Ollie. I would like to contact someone with a website so that I could view available yorkies and get info on mom and breeder. I would like him to have a short snout and ears that stand-up. I am interested in a yorkie that is 9-18 months old. I live in Michigan but I am willing to travel out of state if in the Midwest. Looking forward to hearing from someone. Thanks JANE

Please stay away from Diva Pup AKA divapup.com! Do NOT buy a puppy from them! And never buy a puppy from a pet store! You WILL be supporting the tragedy of puppy mills! For more information visit:

http://www.hua.org/Prison/Puppymills.html

If you would like more information about my own awful experience with Diva Pup, or about puppy mills, please feel free to email me at pcmsinc@hotmail.com.

My advice to you is if you're looking for a purebred puppy first contact your local club (or even the national club) for the breed for a referral to a reputable breeder who does it for the love of the breed, not the money! Or email me and I'll help you find a purebred puppy from a loving and honest breeder...and I will do this for FREE!

I would highly recommend checking with the yorkie rescue sites.  I recently am a new mommy to a beautiful 3# girl that is 22 weeks old.  She belonged to my brother but he has 3 small children and they were to rough with her.  I also have 4 Japanese Chins as a belong to a rescue organization.  My Chins range in age of 16, 12, 7 & 4.  All of the chins are from our rescue and they are wonderful wonderful companions.
So I STRONGLY recommend rescue dogs.  If you don't see what you want, fill out an application and let them know the age, sex, etc. you are looking for.

I purchased a puppy recently from a breeder in my area.  He is 13 weeks old and weighs 2.8 pounds.  I paid $800.00 for him.  He is AKC registered and has a LIFETIME genetic guarantee.  The outrageous prices I see on-line for these dogs is ridiculous!  This breeders "larger" Yorkies (5-7#) as adults is $500.00/with the same guarantee.  PLEASE shop around and do NOT get "ripped off" by these very expensive breeders.  My puppy was home-raised and litter trained when I got him also!

Renelle--just remember-no matter what you're told all yorkies are the same-varying sizes.  No "teacups", mini, etc.  Some are very small but be very careful!  I've seen minis advertised for as much as $4,000.00 on-line and that is crazy!!  I have my 3rd Yorkie-AKC registered, lifetime genetic guaranty, home raised by the breeder.  He was $600.00.  You just have to shop around-preferably in person.  Putting those little puppies on a plane for shipping is so cruel!!!  Good luck!!

PD---What state are you in?  I am in Ill.-does that help you?  My puppy is now 16 weeks old and weighs 3.5 pounds.  My vet tell me he is very healthy.  Have you looked on line and seen how  CRAZY these breeders are with their prices???  PLUS you are supposed to pick a puppy without even SEEING it first!!!!  And like Cindy above said---you have to SEE your puppy, play with him!  It's a FEELING thing!!  You have to be compatible--it's not a COUCH we're buying--it's a living thing!!    I totally don't understand how you can buy a puppy, sight unseen, and then put the poor thing on an airplane!!!  My puppy is sitting at my feet right now--he and I "met" when he was 8 weeks old.  My family went back and purchased him for me for my birthday as a surprise.   Anyway, I would LOVE to give you this lady's name if you are anywhere near Northern Ill.   Let me know, o.k.?  Or I can ask her to contact you..

I actually saw a site that was asking $5,000 for what they call "tea-cup" yorkies!!!  I am pretty sure that almost ALL yorkies that are VERY young will fit in a cup!!!!  If they are honest, they will not guarantee the adult size of a puppy anyway!!!.  Of course you get an idea from the parents of the puppy...but putting the phrase "tea cup" in front does make it o.k. to charge someone $5,000.00!!!   Look around---go to a breeder that doesn't keep "spitting" out puppies to make money!!!!  And an airplane ride for a "baby"??  CRAZY!!!!

Has anyone ever thought of THIS!!!  If you truly are breeding yorkies because you LOVE them and want to improve the breed...not just make money....could you really put them in a cage and alone for an airplane ride??!!  I don't know about any of you other yorkie lovers--but I don't treat my yorkies like possessions-I treat them like members of my family.  Buying them, sight unseen and sending them off on a plane??>>tell me these breeders LOVE their dogs more than their MONEY---NOT!!!!  I don't hear much defense from breeders on this subject!!!  Really wrong the way they label a puppy with their fancy descriptions so they can rip people off!!

Jeff Dane sells sick puppies and doesn't honor his contracts. He has DOZENS of Breeder females and an unbelievable amount of puppies stacked in kennels on top of each other in his garage. He is building a new barn to put them all in so it won't look as bad when people come to see them. You can find "cheaper" better puppies else where

PRECIOUS PUPPIES,
I have a question that I have always wondered about.  As a breeder, you can answer it.  If someone pays $1685 for a "teacup" yorkie and it grows to weigh more than you say a "teacup" should weigh--do you refund the difference to the purchaser since the yorkie is now a "toy" size?  I guess what I'm asking is, Is there a written guarantee that a puppy will not weigh more than it "should" per your description?

I was looking on aol search yorkshire terriers.  I found an excellent site!  Not sure what page but it's called  "Get advice you can trust".  It's written by Dr. Martin Goldstein, DVM.  Scroll down to Yorkshire terrier review/he says there are no such thing as teacup yorkies, and why a yorkie under 4 pounds is not a good idea!  I found his info very interesting and will be getting his book.  Hope before anyone else pays mega dollars for a yorkie from these expensive breeders, they read an expert's advice and opinions!!  No one has to pay so much for a puppy.  You do have to be careful where you buy your puppy--but the fancy names mean nothing.  I haven't heard of a breeder yet that can guarantee in writing the size of their puppies--or that is willing to!!

Yorkshire Terriers are one of the smallest breeds of dogs. They range from one lb ( which is the recorded smallest in the breed )to an average of 7 lbs.. Mini, teacups,or anyother discription of the breed, is just a way of trying to discribe a smaller dog of the breed and a way to advertise. I have two Yorkies. The male weighs almost five lbs., and the female weighs two lbs. 2 ozs. Just two weeks ago they had three puppies. The puppies will range somewhere between mom and dad. The cost of a puppy is also determined by the cost of delivery. In our case, the puppies were delivered by cissarian. This is a costly proceedure and adds to the price of each puppy. Understand, that I can make an educated guess at the weight of a puppy, but there is no way to guarinty it. My puppies range in cost from $1200.00 to $1700.00 in price. Also remember that pets are always somewhat cheaper than owning the breeding rights along with your pet. Good luck in your search...

I am not a breeder, admittedly--but is it not true that in most cases the reason for cesareans is that the females are too tiny to give birth.?  I have read in many places that females should not be bred when they are so tiny..it's dangerous for the mother AND her puppies. So aren't these dogs put at risk so that "tiny" babies can be produced and more money can be charged for them?

Can I get some help here?!  I've been looking all over the place, and it seems that there aren't any breeders in my area at all.  I've also been looking online, and the prices are RIDICULOUSLY HIGH.  I love Yorkies and would pay good money for them, but come on, it gets to a point where breeders are pricing them TOO high.  Well, I'm interested in finding a tiny female Yorkie.  I'm from the Bay Area, in California, for those who didn't know.  If anyone can help me find a pup, or at least a place where I can find one, that would be greatly appreciated.  I'm willing to travel, so preferably, I'd like some place close, since I would NOT like my Yorkie to be shipped to me.  I'd like to be spending less than $1000 dollars, but less than $800 would be great also.  If anyone has any advice, some directories, I'd appreciate it if you could e-mail me at Chack99@aol.com.

HHHHMMMM!!!   Keep checking this sight for an answer to my above questions that I put to breeders...how can you LOVE a puppy MORE than money when you can put them on a plane for a trip across country----and is the money difference between a "toy" yorkie and a "teacup" yorkie returned if that puppy becomes too big for the so-called "teacup" status and the mega dollars it brings??  AND why they are breeding these tiny little females that cannot possibly give birth on their own!!  Then they say they have to charge us so much money to cover the cost of a c-section!!!!!!!!!!!  That doesn't sound like a caring animal lover to me!!If we just would all stop paying these HIGH prices, they would be forced to GET REAL!!!!!!

I agree with you all! What are you going to do with a 2lb dog, you mine as well get a free kitten in the paper rather then a 4000 dollar dog, a dog that small cant do much...except look cute, and if the tiniest thing happens to it, then it could be fatal! just stick with the normal size!

I found info in my local paper..please know that I know absolutely NOTHING about this place--it is quite a ride away from where I live.  I have never been there and know nothing about the owners.  I hope it is not a puppy mill, etc.  But their puppies are priced halfway decently and the poor dogs are not dressed in doll clothes and sitting in silly baskets or anything like that.  IF anyone contacts them will you let me know how it goes?  They are in central Ill., I believe.  The website is scoobyspuppies.com

I think it speaks volumes that the breeders will jump on line to advertise their puppies, but won't answer the questions put to them (above).  What happens if your teacup becomes a toy--do you refund the difference to the purchaser?   And if you aren't in it to make money, but to improve the breed, like I keep hearing--why do you breed these way too tiny females and then tell us we have to pay your outrageous prices because the poor mother needs a c-section????  Could it be for $$$$$$$$$....gee, I wonder?

As an exhibitor and breeder of Yorkshire Terriers would love to input this conversation.  Never ever buy a puppy from the internet.  If you want a purebred Yorkie find local dog clubs or AKC (Canadian Kennel Club in Canada) dog shows to find your breeders.  The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America has a breeder referral list and also excellent information on their Frequently Asked Questions page.  They are at www.ytca.org .It will tell you all about 'teacups', that they are actually an undersized Yorkie and high risk for health problems,  and that reputable breeders do not breed females under 5 lbs in size nor do they breed to produce tiny.  Caesareans are still a possibility but a reputable breeder is not in it solely to make money anyway. Costs of caesareans are part of being a breeder and never should you pay more for a puppy because the mother delivered by caesarean section.   Reputable breeders are trying to improve their own lines, produce show dogs worthy of carrying on their line, and any puppies that are not going to be show dogs are lovely healthy pups that are sold for pet under stringent non-breeding contracts.  I never ship puppies, must approve the buyer and family, give a lifetime guarantee for any genetic problems that may pop up and require by contract that at anytime in the lifetime of the puppy should it not be able to be kept for any reason, it is to be returned to me. Some genetic problems do not show up until the dog is 5 or 6 years old.
No Yorkie pups should ever be sold under 12 weeks of age and if particularly small, I do not sell them until they are at least 2 1/2 lbs which may not be until they are 5 months old.  I do not breed for less than 4 lbs as you will find that most of them that are less than that have a high risk of a health problem, that's why they are that small. I have never produced one less than 3 3/4 lbs. Luckily, the two I had at less than 4 lbs  turned out healthy.  If I ever do have anything less than 3 1/2 lbs full grown I would never sell it for fear it has something wrong.  I would be more inclined to give it to a Yorkie friend who already has one of my dogs, if I didn't keep it myself. It would never be used for breeding.  Reputable breeders never mass produce puppies just to fill a pet market either, are alway sold Akc registered or if in Canada, Canadian Kennel Club registered not to be confused with the Continental Kennel Club which will register anything.
Yes there are reputable breeders out there.  We don't take PayPal or credit cards, we're not high profile because we are not in the business to sell puppies.

Guys, the price is driven by the bloodline of the dog. If you are a regular person like me and don't care about that show crap. You can get a Yorkie for as low as $100.00 I even know of a breeder in Tennessee that will give one away if the poor dog is not show worthy. They are idiots and just care about the money. Don't buy it on the net. they will put it on a box and ship it like an UPS package. The puppies suffer a lot that way and sometimes they don't make it. Yes, they will send you another puppy but that's not my point. There are breeders all over. You just need to look around. Don't worry about the show worthiness of the dog. I haven't seen an ugly Yorkie in my life. You can buy any Yorkie and that dog is going to make you happy. The only thing you need to make sure is that it is healthy and you will know that from a Vet. not from a certificate. It is true that the "teacup" style are not sound dogs and tend to have all kinds of health problems. People breed these kind of dogs for the money but it is not the right thing to do.

Li----I cannot believe it!!  Finally a response from a breeder-and one that truly loves the breed.  I am not a breeder but common sense tells me that a female smaller than 4-5 pounds is only being bred to make the breeder money on the so-called "teacup" puppies.  I am so glad that you responded and people can see that there are honest breeders out there who do not dress the puppies up in doll clothes, pose them for a picture and put that picture on the internet and then ship the poor little babies on an airplane!!!  I wish NO ONE would buy from these breeders!!!  I still don't see a response to the question about refunding money to the purchaser who pays for a "teacup" and it grows to be a "toy"!!!  They jump into the converstion to advertise their websites--but not to answer our legitimate questions!!  HOORAY to you for standing up against them and telling us what we all need to know.  I have been told often that the yorkies that are under 4-5 pounds can have serious health problems.  The breeder I purchased my guy from gave me a lifetime genetic guarantee--you hear that rarely!!  Thanks again from a yorkie lover!!!!

Didn't express that information about Code of Ethics and Purebred clubs quite right.  What I was trying to say is that if you are a purebred breeder of registered dogs, it is against the Code of Ethics of the AKC, Canadian Kennel Club, and individual breed clubs for any member to also be breeding/selling crossbreeds and nonregistered dogs.  We are supposed to be promoting purebred registered dogs only and your membership in those clubs can be terminated.

One of my posts seems to be missing, didn't get to the boards.  What I had said was that prices for pet puppies are not driven by bloodlines when you are working with reputable breeders.  My pedigrees on all my puppies I am selling for pet under non-breeding contracts are loaded with Champions both Canadian Kennel Club and American Kennel Club.  Those pedigrees and Champions have more meaning for me than for anyone else as it indicates to me that my breeding program is working.  The puppies I have now have two or three generations of dogs of my own kennel name with Championships plus Champions from the bloodlines I used to produce my line.  The bloodlines I have used to produce my own line are all reputable breeders, show their dogs, I know them personally or know them through my network of other exhibitor breeders and have seen many of these dogs in the ring or know breeders who have. The only other people that might be interested in what is on my pedigrees is other show breeders that I approach to use their stud dogs for breeding or for them to approach me to use my stud dogs or if we are interested in buying a new show dog with a different line.
As a pet puppy buyer, fact is if you are interested in buying a purebred, you should be very interested in that 'show crap'  Breeders that show their dogs are breeding towards the breed standard or trying very hard to.  Again, puppies that we know are not going to be show quality are sold as pets to not be used for breeding.  These are very nice quality pets, not show dogs.  If they were show dogs, they would be kept for our own program or sold to other known experienced show homes.  If I don't think my puppy should be used for breeding, then no one else is going to breed it either.  Unfortunately, breeders who just breed and don't show their dogs, usually don't know the breed standard and their dogs look less and less like the breed they are supposed to be.  I have seen that often enough in my grooming business too.  All puppies are cute but once they grow into adults, you'll know whether or not it looks like a Yorkie.  Some have come from that type of breeder and aren't bad, but many don't look much like the breed they are supposed to be.
I do not know anyone that would sell a pet puppy that is not being kept for the show rings for a cheap price.  You must remember that nowadays, crossbreeds aka mutts are fetching $500 and more.  Don't get me wrong, I don't care if someone wants a crossbreed but I am rather annoyed with breeders that misrepresent them as 'rare' or 'special'.  They aren't nor are they healthier.  Most crosses end up with all or most of the problems that exist in the purebreds that were used to create these mixes.  I have seen them all in my pet grooming business.
As for your question about 'teacup' prices for puppies that end up being 'toy'sized no reputable breeder will sell a puppy in that manner in the first place.  All my pet puppies are the same price and I can only give a ballpark idea for size.  I do not guarantee for size because it cannot be done most of the time.  Actually, prospective buyers that have approached me for 'tiny' or 'teacup' I usually educate then send them packing as I don't want to sell to someone who wants a novelty item.  The few I sold that were 3 3/4 lbs and 4 lbs just happened to be small and the people who bought them weren't necessarily looking for small, just wanted a nice Yorkie and that's what I had.  I don't want my pet puppies dressed up in clothes and paraded around like a doll either.
As a guideline to reputable breeders you might check out sites on the Internet, bear in mind, most reputable breeders only have one breed, two at most.  I have Yorkies and it is hard enough for me to do justice to the breed without having a whole bunch of different ones.  Last year I had a total of 7 puppies.  I sold 3 for pet to good homes, kept 4 for show prospects.  One is likely ending up pet quality so will likely sell her this spring.  As she is almost 6 months old, I will have her spayed by my Vet to ensure spaying and then look for a home.  You can bet I don't make any money at this.  I don't want to.  I love the Yorkie, love my dogs very much, like to show, and am pleased to be able to provide quality puppies from someone who does care to people looking for a nice pet.  And people who bought from me were delighted to find me.  I am not special or the only one, we're out there but as we are not in the business of 'selling dogs' you aren't going to find us all over the Internet.  We usually have websites for information about the breed, some pictures of our dogs, but never post pictures etc of any puppies currently for sale.  We prefer to let you find us and take it from there. We really don't care when we do find a home for a puppy, will keep it until we find just the right one.  We also don't have a swack of puppies to sell so have to get rid of what we have to make room for the new ones. Remember that when you see a bunch of puppies for sale on a website.  How many dogs does that breeder have?
For people who don't live in my area, I can refer to someone with the same ethics etc as I do that is in your area or a lot closer never at any charge.

Please check www.yorkiepup.com

We have lower priced Yorkies at times, from $450-up males and $650-up females. The tinies cost more because they require more attention and care to get them to 2 lbs or close to 2 lbs. Call me anytime about Yorkie or Yorkie mixed pups. 903-623-4108

LI---You ARE rare and special to people looking on the internet for a puppy!!!!  I know because my brother bred yorkies like YOU do for a long time.  The dogs I got from him passed away, each was 15 years old.  One was 3# and the other was 9#!!!!!  They were half brothers and not bred to be big or small!!  Like you said, small puppies HAPPEN, but it shouldn't be done on purpose.  They were both healthy, but the smaller one did require more care!  You can't guarantee the size of a puppy--so why do these on'linebreeders tell people they can!!??   I'm sorry Yorkiepup, I did visit your website and I do not want to bad mouth your business...it's everyone's choice to buy where they please--but why do you have a terrified little puppy balanced on a soda can!!!!!!!  and dressed in doll clothes????  I'm sure you love your dogs but that is a selling ploy--NOt a love for an animal.  There is another website that I probably shouldn't mention the name of--it is a NIGHTMARE!!  Doll clothes, puppies posed in wagons and baskets, and MANY breeds--small ones shown as "special and rare"!!!!  Up to 5,000.00.  Those POOR mommy puppies!!!  It breaks my heart!!  A person who loves their pets has to go IN PERSON to purchase their dog--shouldn't it be a FEELING thing????  How do you know a dog's personality by a picture of it in doll clothes or posed in some other, in MY opinion, cruel manner to make the ad more attractive?  You have to talk, play, and interact with many puppies to find the one that fits into your home.  Not by a picture on the web, a Paypal payment, and an airplane ride later to find out that your puppy isn't right for your family!!!  This is HOPEFULLY a 15 year commitment you are making to love this dog---don't you think you should MEET it first???  Li, I have great respect for you saying what you have with other breeders probably not appreciating it.  Teacup, toy, tiny---who cares--get a pet that you can love and not a NOVELTY (to borrow your phrase, Li).  My yorkie is curled up on my lap as I write this--and believe me, he fits in with my family because I made sure he would BEFORE he came home!!!  How can we get these on-line breeders to STOP unless we just don't buy from them???!!!!  Yorkirpup--why do you WANT to get a puppy to only 2#????  I am asking seriously, why do you want to breed such tiny puppies that can have so many problems???  Is there a good reason, other than money?  I am  NOT being sarcastic, I really would like to know.  There is a market for EVERYTHING out in this world--does it mean EVERYTHING has to be provided?--and at what cost??  Li, thanks again

GH it sounds like your brother was one of the reputable ones when he was breeding.  Yes, 4lbs can happen, I've had them, didn't sell them until they were  5months or more to make sure they were okay.  I have never had one under 3 3/4 lbs but if I did, I would never sell it.  I do know of reputable breeders that have had the odd puppy that will obviously be 3 lbs or less and were also reluctant to sell them because of being afraid there is something wrong and we are not going to fob off our problems on someone else.  We usually find a home with friends or people with one of our Yorkies if they want it, but don't charge them anything for it. We have them vetted at our expense first to see if anything is showing up but caution the person getting it.  On one that will be that small, a bile acid test should definitely be done to see if liver shunt could be there.  There aren't tests that can detect everything, sometimes it is a wait and see.  We expect them to still keep in touch with us and keep us informed of how it is doing. We don't usually give them to someone that doesn't already have a Yorkie because it is just too hard on the pet person if the puppy has a short life span. But as you asked the previous post of yorkiepup, why are you trying to breed for tiny when reputable websites and Veterinarians will confirm it is a bad idea. The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America established since 1952 and whose members have been show breeders, some for over 40 years and have contributed to the betterment not the detriment of the breed definitely cringe at promoting undersize Yorkies.
As for the sites that are selling these poor things for great big bucks obvious to me it is to make money.  A guaranteed show dog from a reputable breeder will run about $3000 - $5000 US.  You will have to be either an established show breeder or if new, be willing to be mentored by your breeder into the show world.  Remember these are supposed to be purebreds where breed standards are involved.  If you are buying pet puppies, you still want to be dealing with someone who cares enough about the breed to show their dogs in American Kennel Club shows or Canadian Kennel Club shows in Canada.  It shows we care enough to try to maintain the breed standard on our dogs, we know our lines, our pedigrees are full of Champions that we have attained on dogs with our own kennel name and on the dogs that contributed to establishing our line.  We know the breeders and dogs in our pedigree personally or through other show breeders.  That means we also know whether or not any health problems, genetic or otherwise have turned up and can act accordingly.  That's why we give guarantees for genetic health problems for the lifetime of a puppy.  Some problems can turn up at 5 or 6 years old or older.
Liver shunt for example can be a problem in Yorkies and Maltese.  If you don't know your lines, you run a much higher risk.  Type Liver Shunt into your browser for all kinds of info about it especially the information and rescue site put together by Terry Shumsky.
Buying from a show breeder doesn't mean you are buying a show dog, you won't be.  You will be buying a lovely healthy pet puppy that is just not what we want for the show rings and hence do not breed it or want it to be bred by anyone else. Sometimes because they are just too small, too big, color is going to light, topline isn't what we want, none of which is a health issue, just not a show dog.  They still always should come with Registration papers transferred to the buyers name, Limited Registration in the AKC system, non-breeding in the Canadian system.  Did you know it was illegal to charge extra for registration papers from AKC registered puppies and Canadian Kennel Club registered puppies?  Any dog or puppy sold as a purebred must be registerable with either the AKC in US or Canadian Kennel Club in Canada, by law.  In Canada, it is Federal jurisdiction with Agriculture Canada under the Animal Pedigree Act.  The AKC website can likely tell you what it is in the American Kennel Club. As the costs for all the registration requirements including transfers to the new owners, on a puppy is about $50 for each puppy registered in Canada and about $30 for each puppy registered in the US with AKC, why would hundreds of dollars be charged by some of these people for registration?
If you want to make money in dogs, go start a pet grooming service or an elite boarding kennel where you can provide supreme service to people on holidays that have to board their dogs or go get yourself a job.
No problem GH, there are many breeders that think like I do, we don't cash in using  dogs. We don't take PayPal, no credit cards, no shipping, insist on meeting the buyer personally and expect any buyer to come see us, our dogs and for us to determine if this is the right breed for any purchaser and/or the right time. We have jobs that support ourselves and families and/or spouses that do.  We are not commercial breeders.
It is very shameful for any breeder to be breeding purebreds that are not in it to the betterment of the breed.
On average, most Yorkies do live to be 15 years when you are dealing with breeders that do know their lines and care about what they are doing.
It is a buyer beware world out there, so be careful of what you are buying.  I cannot do justice to more than one breed, the Yorkie.  That is the only one I have.  Most reputable show breeders only have one breed, at most two because we know we cannot do justice to more than that.  Even if someone says their dogs are AKC registered, still check them out for the rest of their policies etc.  The AKC and Canadian Kennel Club are registration bodies only and take the breeder at their word that they are purebred dogs and ethical breeders.  It is up to you to determine if the breeder you are planning to buy from is ethical regardless of claims to fame etc.

Absolutely right Ma, the YTCA will not allow any of its members to use these terms for their dogs or puppies.  If they do, they will be struck from membership.  Stay away from on-line breeders is the best advice you can give for the sake of the dog as well as the purchaser that could very well end in a very sad story.  Li

My 3#er (that lived to 15) did come from my brother--I took him because he was like the runt of the litter--all the rest were larger.  He had "seizures" starting at about 10 weeks old.  He would pant very hard to start and then his back legs would stiffen and he had to drag them behind him.  Then he just fell over on his side--panting and stiff.  I call them seizures--but no one ever did really say what it was.  It would last 3 hours to the MINUTE--I could time it!  This would happen about once every 8-10 weeks until he was about 6 years old--then it stopped.  Now if I had gotten him from a breeder on-line, what would they do for me!!??  Offer me another puppy--forget it!!  I was IN LOVE with this dog and would NEVER give him up--health problems or NO.  That's what scares me--when you look underr "yorkshire Terriers" on-line and see the lawsuits against some of these baby clothes breeders---they won't take the puppies back or refund the purchaser's mega bucks.  They MADE their money on the dog!!  He DID live to be 15 years old (thankfully) but I watched him like a hawk!!  His 9 # 1/2 brother was healthy as HORSE and also lived to 15.  I am so grateful to the breeder of my current puppy--a LIFETIME guarantee and IN WRITING that she will take the dog back if any problems--LIKE I WOULD PART WITH HIM FOR ANY REASON (lol).  Maybe you should post some of your info where people are on-line looking up Yorkshire Terrier as a topic!!  I wish "THE CLUB" could regulate the on-line breeders.  They obviously have nothing good to say in their defense!!  NOT ONE has answered a question YET!!  I did ask a breeder at their e-mail address some of my questions--their response--  "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!"   How WRONG is THAT!!!!!!

GH, that was so wonderful you took that Yorkie in from your brothers and that is what I was talking about previously.  That sort of puppy does happen but a reputable breeder would never sell a pup to a buyer for big bucks like the one you got from your brother.  Your brother did exactly what a reputable breeder would do, give it to a family member or friend.  Yours turned out in the long run and sometimes they do.  Different story when you have paid thousands of dollars for a puppy alleged to be 'healthy'.  You walked into it fully informed and I am sure your brother would have helped you if you would have needed it.
Unfortunately, there is all sorts of stuff in all walks of life on the Internet that cannot be controlled.  That's why I spoke up on this page to try to get people to think about what they are doing and to educate and inform.  As a puppy buyer, if you don't know what goes on with these puppies and breeders who have websites promoting these 'novelty' Yorkies for huge dollars, then you don't know.  However, for any of you that have read these dialogues now and still support that kind of breeding, hope you sleep nights, I sure couldn't.  Li

Purebred dogs that are registered by the AKC and Canadian Kennel Club are divided into 7 groups.  There is Group 1 (Sporting Group, Group 2 (Hound Group) and so on. The Yorkshire Terrier is classed in the Toy Group by the AKC and Canadian Kennel Club.  The Toy group is considered to be companion dogs and include the Yorkshire Terrier, Maltese, Pomeranian etc. There are no varieties within the Yorkie for size such as Mini, Toy, Standard etc.  Breeds exist such as the Poodle that have varieties of Toy Poodle, Miniature Poodle, and Standard Poodle.  The Toy Poodle is in the Toy Group, the Miniature and Standard Poodles are both in Group Six, which I think is the Non-Working Group.  The sizes are written in the breed standards for the dogs that do have size varieties in the AKC and Canadian Kennel Club and are distinct separate breeds. Another example is the Schnauzer, Miniature, Standard and Giant varieties.
There are no 'teacup' varieties existing in any breeds whether Yorkie, Poodle, Maltese etc. That is a term dreamed up by very clever marketers for undersized dogs in the Toy Group.
This information is available from both the AKC and Canadian Kennel Club websites or their publications made available through bookstores or their website stores.  Li

I guess that's the point I was making earlier when I asked Yorkiepup to tell me WHY they are breeding smaller and smaller puppies--seems like the smaller they can get them (all on-line breeders) the better!!  I think I got no answer because the answer is obvious---it is to make BIG bucks!!  It is certainly not to better the breed!  Not one of the breeders I have asked has answered (except with an advertisement for the website).  That should tell all you first-time yorkie buyers to beware--contact the Yorkshire Terrier Club and get your breeder's name from THEM--not on-line with a baby clothes breeder!!  Please!!  Think of the welfare of the puppy!  And the heartache you could very well experience buying on-line.  There IS a market for these NOVELTY puppies--that's a shame-but the ONLY way to stop it is NOT to buy into their advertising!  Actually I DID get one answer to my question from an on-line breeder...they best they could do is "I guess you get what you pay for"!!!!   Kind of a cop-out answer, don't you agree?

Hi Kgd1908, try the breeder referral on www.ytca.org website.  Find a breeder closest to you and ask them if they don't have any smaller sized puppies if they know someone who does that maybe even lives in your area. Those breeders on that site have a code of Ethics they must abide by to be in that Club.  You still must screen them and be sure they are reputable and you will see the disclaimer when you click onto the breeder referral list. There is a vast network of breeders that are ethical that they know also not members of YTCA but that they can direct you to. You will not be sent to an irresponsible breeder.  Any breeder you talk to, ask what their pet prices are and if you hear 'teacup' or if the prices are vastly pumped up from amongst sizes, don't go there. I have a pretty good outline of information on this message board.  Good luck.  Li

thanks LI!  i haven't found a breeder who has puppies for less than $1000 so far though :-( that's still a bit much for my wallet.  i've talked to sooo many breeders and i end up being more confused as i go along.  some say the "teacup" yorkies ALWAYS have health problems while others offer to give me their reference list of people who've bought teacups from them that don't have health problems....who do you trust?  i'd surely hate to bring a yorkie home only to have it cost more than everything i own in the end due to vet bills and illnesses! i did find one breeder who breeds 3lb and smaller yorkies - and they say none have had any defects and their owners rave about their yorkies - but they're also $1750 with only a 1 year guarantee....according to everyone on this message board i'd be crazy in the head to get one right???

kgd1908, I understand your delema.  Unfortunately, most of these breeders that sell 'teacup' will claim almost anything to market their wares.  Yes, it might be possible to buy one that is 3 lbs and it is healthy but that is a pretty big "might" and far more likely it won't be.  There is always an exception and I would certainly be willing to bet these sellers actually do know that and that's why there is a one year guarantee for genetic faults. Genetic problems, especially liver shunts, have a nasty habit of turning up after the puppy is a year old.  What is the actual lifespan of anything they have sold that did mature to 2lbs to 3 lbs?  Have any offered that information and would it be true?  On average most Yorkies I have known of, normal sized of 4 lbs and up, have produced dogs that live to be 15 years old, plus or minus a year or two.  Do these 'teacups'have that kind of lifespan or do they consider a normal lifespan 6 years or 8 years. Less maybe?
If you read the information on the Yorkshire Terrier Website on the Frequently Asked Questions page about 'teacups' or what we call undersized Yorkies, you know what their stand is about these little ones and it doesn't look good. You do have to realize people who purposely breed for small 3 1/2 lbs and less are just producing a novelty item for an unsuspecting public for money.  I am sure they are not at all happy with the information I have put on this board and backed up with information of the Yorkshire Terrier Club which has a membership of reputable breeders that are in it for the betterment of the breed plus a few others on this board that know 'teacup' breeders are not reputable.
You could perhaps find a Yorkie that is 3 1/2 to 5 lbs, that is still a small dog, from someone who is reputable that will give you a genetic health guarantee.  Always keep in mind however, that a reputable breeder will give a lifetime guarantee on genetic problems on their Yorkies regardless of size.
As we don't breed to fill a pet market, we also don't produce very many puppies for sale in the first place. The best you could do is perhaps be put on a waiting list with a reputable breeder, save up the money in the meantime and wait until something becomes available. You will be interviewed first to determine if you will be a suitable home which is in the best interest of the puppy and dog when it is an adult.
The first Yorkie I bought was a pet which is what I wanted at the time.  I looked for about 6 months and couldn't find what I thought I wanted.  I was delighted with the one I did find.
It is far better to buy a healthy Yorkie from someone reputable and you will love it just as much, than to buy from someone pretty disreputable, take your chances and end up with a tragedy.  As I stated previously, if puppy buyers would stop buying from these people, they would stop this nonsense as demand is what drives their supply.  That is a basic economic fact which unfortunately will also work for live creatures as well as any market item.  These people know that, they are business driven first, that's how they make their money.  They don't care if they should be producing what they are, they are only are rising to the demand of what people think they want.

gh, I wouldn't worry too much about those posts still asking for teacups.  They have been warned from our thread of posts.
However, do you not think that the 'teacuppers' would love to know who I am, who you are and anyone else rattling their cages and putting some holes in their claims? Interesting that the writers have asked to be contacted privately, to their yahoo accounts when I have put all kinds of information on how to contact someone reputable on this board. No offense intended unless justified.
TaTa for now. You are a delight gh, glad you have had good experiences with Yorkies and Yorkie breeders.

kgd---check out Li's posts above--if a breeder even says the word "teacup" they are only trying to make money. RUN!!  Remember Li said there is no such thing--it's a selling ploy!!  I wouldn't settle for anything less than a LIFETIME genetic guarantee like my breeder gave me.  My yorkie is 4# full-grown--NOT ON PURPOSE!!!!!  Breeding the tiny little females is not right!!  Those breeders are in it for MONEY--not the betterment of the Yorkie breed!!  I bet if you had a list of ALL of the owners of their puppies (which you will never have access to) there are a LOT that have puppies with health problems.  I'd take Li's advice--stay off-line and go through the Yorkshire Terrier Club..STILL check them out carefully!  As I said above, my yorkie is 4#--LIFETIME guarantee and he was $800.00.  My vet says he is in perfect health--but Li also told us that genetic defects may not show up for 5-6 years...why settle for less than a LIFETIME guarantee.  I doubt if an on-line breeder will give you that..a lot of their HEALTH guarantees   (on line) are only good for a couple weeks to a couple months, too!!!  Don't settle---your Yorkie will be with you for a long time!!  Stay off-line and find someone who cares about the puppies, not the $$$$.     gh

Li----I don't know if the on-line breeders really CARE who we are--because unfortunately, like you said, the yorkie buyers that are posting on here and asking for responses to their PRIVATE e-mail addresses are probably getting e-mails like crazy from the baby clothes breeders, don't you think?  The breeders won't answer US on this site because they cannot justify what they are doing--but I would bet that they are contacting these unsuspecting buyers and trying to sell their puppies.  I look at the pic of that little puppy balancing on a pop can and I wish I could just tell the WORLD--STAY AWAY from these on-line breeders!!  Please don't keep them in business by buying into their selling ploys and perhaps experiencing more heartache than you can imagine!!!!  If you love yorkies, get a healthy 4 plus #'er.  They are still small.  Yorkshire Terrier Club calls them UNDERSIZED because they ARE!!!  Not teacups!!--but UNDERSIZED yorkies!!!  That means "not what they should be"!!!  Oh well, Li.  I DID contact one of these breeders personally for an answer-like I said the response I got was "You get what you pay for".  I don't want to pay thousands of dollars for a puppy that will cost another thousands of $$ for health care--THAT is what you you are paying for with an UNDERSIZED Yorkie!!!  Li, you have renewed my faith in breeders--you have not once posted you e-mail address to make a sale!!  You truly are speaking out for good of the yorkies and not to make a fast buck off these people on this site that are looking to buy!!  gh

Hi, nope and I never will post who I am nor will I reply to any of these private email addresses looking for puppies of any size.  That's not how I work. Even if I did post my email address, I would never sell a puppy to anyone through this board or any other on line advertising ploy.  I get bombarded with emails and phone calls from people who do find my website or find me by referral. My website has information about Yorkies, pictures of my show dogs, pictures of some of my puppies that I have kept or sold previously, never ever of any puppies I may have for sale now and I don't announce upcoming litters anywhere. I have links to puppymills.com, ytca.org, and other reputable breeders.  That's what all the reputable breeders have on their sites.
If the babyclothes breeders told you you get what you pay for then I hope their puppies sold for prices more than about $2500 are guaranteed show quality, no less than 9 or 10 months old, already pointed, AKC registered only as that is the only bona fide purebred registration body in the US, females ranging in size from 5 to 6 1/2 lbs, males 4 1/2 to 6 or 6 1/2 lbs is fine.  If they aren't, you aren't getting at all what you paid for.
Want an eyeopener?  Go to Google search engine and type in Diva pup complaints.  A site will come up called something like www.thecomplaint  I'm not sure of the rest but you'll see it.  Read the complaints about the teacupper Diva pup.  Those complaints are the types of problems you can expect from teacup breeders.  Speaking of which, they are quiet aren't they.  They know what I have said is true.
Anybody checking out puppies from breeders, regardless of the contracts, pay attention to your feelings about the breeder and whether you think they are sincere.  It is a royal pain to end up having to sue a breeder because they gave you a contract and won't honor it.  I sell my puppies with all kinds of requirements and guarantees in my contract but if I am not sure about a buyer and whether they will honor that contract, I won't sell them a puppy.  As a buyer, you also have the right to determine if that breeder is honorable.

I chuckled when I read your last post--about how quiet the on-line breeders are...that's what I've been saying.  Look how far back the questions I had were put to them!  Sure enough--no answer but there is another website to go to advertising the INFAMOUS TEACUP Yorkie!!  LOL  They cannot speak to our concerns because they are fully aware that we are right!!!  They cannot justify what they are doing!  kgd--funny that you got names of happy buyers' from the on-line breeders.  Wouldn't you like access to ALL their buyers--trust me--you won't get it!!  Everybody can have a bad experience but it's how the breeder handles it that counts!!  I haven't check out the Diva complaints yet--I'm doin' that right away, tho.  Heres's one for you Li and kgd.  THIS one gives me NIGHTMARES!!!  Read their advertising and THEIR complaints on-line.    I will contact my breeder and see if I can give her info.  She doesn't get many litters per year, tho.  and Kgd--I think you still can get a bad breeder from Yorkie club--I think Li would agree.  That's what she means by checking them out, too.  NEVER buy from a person who will sell to ANYBODY!!!  The on-line breeders don't even care if they mett you first (MOST of them).  They will pack the puppy up and put it on a plane to you!!  Kind of like PLANT, ya know!!!!!  You buy spring bulbs that way!!!!!  Sorry I get carried away but it makes me so angry!!!  Good luck kgd.  You are very wise to listen to Li's advice.  Take your time and you WILL find the love of your life!!!!!!

kgd---yea!!  Hopefully you are on the right track!!  Was this breeder on-line or through the Yorkshire Terrier Club?  Will you be able to go to them and purchase your puppy so you can "meet" it first?  I hope it works out for you.
Louisiana--IfI were you I would take Li's advice and go through the Yorkshire Terrier Club and stay OFF-LINE.  If you are told a breeder sells teacups yorkies--RUN from them..there is no such thing.  Make sure your yorkie is AT LEAST 41/2 lbs full grown and get  a LIFETIME genetic guarantee or else go somehere else..the on-line breeders advertise teacups--but remember..they are UNDERSIZED puppies--usually coming with many problems.  I'm sure if you go to the Yorkshire Terrier Club website you'll find breeders in your area that DON'T advertise on-line.  Go in person to pick out your puppy and meet it first.  They have personalities, too and you should be sure that you "get along".  and like you heard kdg say in her post above....if they  care about their puppies  MORE than their MONEY--you will be interviewed to be sure you can provide a good home for the puppy.  Don't buy into the labels--teacup, etc.....that means they are breeding females that are WAY to small!!!  A yorkie is a yorkie!!  If you DO decide to go on-line--I would get it IN WRITING from these teacup breeders--"if my puppy grows to weigh more than advertised, I want a refund on the price between one labeled size and the next".  You'll find out pretty quick asking them for that guarantee that they have to admit there is no such thing as a teacup and they cannot guarantee size!!!!!   good luck

Louisiana/Florida,
tell you what I will make it easy for you.  Read only the posts on this board by Li and gh, ignore the rest.  Yes I know some are long but I have lots of faith that you will get through them, all the information you need is there.  There aren't that many we have posted so go for it.
WOC, now that's an interesting site.  There was a message board going on on the Animalnetwork.com site.  It was titled something like complaints about WOC.  Should have seen all the info and complaints about that outfit.  The people running that site finally locked it and shut it down likely after WOC clued into what was going on and complained.  Basically, people were trying to get people together for a class action law suit.  What became really hilarious was when they started fighting with each other.  But I digress.
Yes, with any breeders listed on any breed club you must still be diligent and check them out for yourself.  If you don't like what you hear or see, keep going.  I ran into a rescue of a Silky Terrier that the dog was originally purchased from a breeder in a local breed club that had a Code of Ethics.  The breeder very obviously went against their Code by the circumstances that this dog was sold as a puppy.  I did let them know but don't know if the Club has done anything since.
As for lifetime genetic guarantees, ask them why not as liver shunts can show up at 5 or 6 or older, that you know that, and what their policy would be if it did show up at that age or older.
Posting puppies for sale goes against the Code of Ethics for many breed clubs and against mine.  No, I am not a member of YTCA, I am a member of a couple of other Clubs whose Codes aren't quite as stringent. My own Code of Ethics is far more stringent than any of theirs anyway.
However, I don't post puppies for sale as I don't ship and with the few puppies I have in a year, I have many local people looking for puppies who are very suitable owners for my puppies.  I have no reason to post.  I am not flooded with puppies as commercial breeders are who just churn them out, sell them usually way younger than they should be, and make room for the next flock.  The teacuppers etc all work the same so don't want to ask you questions or turn anyone down for a puppy whether or not it is the right home, the right breed, the right time for the buyer.  They want your money so aren't going to ask any questions except will that be Paypal, Visa or Mastercard. Did you know that even with all the stuff that goes on, I never take credit cards or PayPal, entirely personal cheques and the odd time cash at the buyers request for which I have always provided a receipt.  Never had one bounce, never had a problem.  I gauge my buyers and I figure if I think they are going to bounce a cheque off me, they aren't getting a puppy. They are local, I know where they live, know where they are employed and if referred by a previous puppy buyer, know someone who knows them and can vouch for them. Not a bad system and my biggest priority is a good home for my puppy that I can sleep nights.
Teacuppers concern is money.  Reputable breeders don't care when we sell our puppies because the right home always comes up from word of mouth, people meeting us at dog shows that are held where ever we happen to be showing so meet prospective buyers personally, Canadian Kennel Club in Canada, AKC in the USA, our information websites.  We are never flooded with puppies.
Think about the mathematical probabilties behind the claims of 'teacuppers' and their websites.  From the number of puppies they are selling every month, that is a lot of buyers.  If buyers are so happy with their puppies, then why do they still need these sites and list so many puppies for sale?  Do you not think they would be getting all kinds of referrals?  Some teacuppers have been in business for a long time.  Reputable breeders have repeat puppy buyers as well once their original puppy reaches old age and passes on.
I haven't been breeding long enough to have people looking for another puppy yet as theirs they bought from me is alive and happy and well.  I have had repeat customers come back to me six months or a year after they bought the first one because they want to have two and want the second one from me or were referred by one of my puppies owners.  Get it?
If you haven't figured it out yet, yes, I do have a degee from University in a science discipline with a background in genetics.  Trust me though, you don't need a degree to figure this stuff out, common sense will do.

I'm not surprised that you are having trouble finding a lifetime genetic guarantee--especially because of what Li told us (which I didn't know) that liver shunt can show up at 5-6 years.  But you can bet your sweet bippy that the on-line breeders know that!!  ALL breders know that!!  That's why they won't do it!!  They have gotten your money, spent it, and had DOZENS more litters by the time it shows up in your puppy.  Since their objective is MONEY, they don't want to be bothered with a puppy they sold 5 years before--sick or not.  I wonder how much "in-breeding" goes on in these places with all these puppies available.  They know that can cause problems genetically down the road, too--they don't want to guarantee anything that long term.  And I hate to repeat myself but it should be obvious to all these people looking for yorkies that not ONE on-line breeder has done anything on this site except ADVERTISE!!!!  Doesn't that speak VOLUMES?? to you all???  Take a close look at how many puppies they have at ONE time and how many different breeds (some of them) have.  That is NOT who you want your yorkie from!!  My breeder sells ONLY through word of mouth---she has no puppies now.  That's because she is like Li and doesn't MASS PRODUCE DOGS!!  lol   Li, you are great!!   I just hope people will go straight to the Yorkshire terrier site--OR ASK around in your area at animal clinics and see if you can find a REPUTABLE breeder that way.  Groomers, veterinarians, start there--NOT on-LINE.  And please STOP these people by NOT buying yorkies under 4-5 pounds.  Trust me the difference in size is NOT that big--you would never know without a scale if a puppy is 3# or 5#!!  They are ALL small dogs!!  If you see little 3# females at any of these places, LEAVE!!  A healthy puppy should be your choice--not a NOVELTY item!!!!

kgd and chris---Have you contacted groomers and vets in your area?  That might be a way to find someone word of mouth.  Or maybe their customers/patients could give you a call with where they purchased their yorkies.  I know I did that in the beginning of my search and my vet did have a couple breeders.  They were a little ways from me but not bad.  Maybe that's a start to finding someone local--or an animal hospital in your area.

She was bought in So. California & was considered a runt. She weighs 5 1/2 -6 pounds and has been the greatest joy in my life. She is truely "the puppy from heaven". I think her good health & long life was due to her staying on a vegetarian diet. Good luck to you all with your puppies and if anyone in the So California area runs across a good Yorkie breeder please e-mail the info. When I have morned for my little one I will be interested in a trusted breeder. lilhiggy@msn.com

The sad thing about those breeders that only breed for the 'teacup' Yorkies that do not exist is that they DO EXIST in the minds of uninformed yorkie 'wishers'.  People who are uninformed about the breed and are determined to ONLY have tiny puppies keep these disreputable breeders and puppy mills in business because they supply the demand!

I have two very small Yorkies, and was determined to have tiny ones - before I was informed enough.  I am fortunate that they are very healthy, but can't imagine buyine one online and having it shipped to me.  How can you watch the bounciness and 'connection', personality and excitement of a baby Yorkie without SEEING it.  I've had several dogs in my life, and the one I chose out of a litter was always the one that connected with me - the one that just said "I'll be your best buddy!"  Not being able to hold that baby all the way home, while trying to figure out what his or her name should be - according to their personality - is one of the precious moments of owning a puppy - of any breed.

We had to look for a long time to find just the perfect puppy for our family, but they are perfect for our family - because we looked until we found the ones with personalities that fit with ours!

My advice is that if you're going to invest - time, money and love - in a Yorkie, you MUST  first invest the time to search for the perfect puppy for you.  If you have a price range in mind, don't deviate from it - keep looking!  However, you might be determined to find a 'teacup' but will meet the puppy that says to you "I'll be your buddy forever"... don't let the size determine your connection!  You'll know him or her when you meet - but you might have to look at a lot of frogs before you find your prince or princess puppy - just like in any other relationship!

Hi! I have spent 3 hours looking online for a 'reasonably' priced young, small Yorkie for my sister-in-law who just lost hers to pancreatitis. (Hers was a rescue.)She paid a fortune in vet bills, and is ready to try to fill the void.

She is not opposed to taking in an adult dog, but needs one with a sweet, loving temperament, as she takes the dog with her to the nursing home for visits. It definitely needs to be housebroken, and neutered/spayed would be a plus (one expense out of the way.)

Needless to say, I'm still looking.

Any ideas? (If so, you can answer here or email me at tjminert@yahoo.com.)

Thanks!

We are also looking for a Yorkie in Utah or anyplace close.  We have a 7 year old female Yorkie and would like to find a friend for her and the rest of or family. We tragically lost our "Tilly" a 9 month old Yorkie female yesterday.  If you know of any breeders in our area that would like a puppy to go to a good home please let us know at drew.bingham@ngc.com  money does not matter as much as a good dog from a good home.

I am a college student in chicago Il and was wondering if anyone would have information or have a yorkshire puppy for sale. As a student I don't have too much money to spend but I would still like to have a happy healthy baby ;) At this point sex or size is not an issue but I would love for the puppy to be young so that I could bond with him/her better. I will have roommates so the puppy will have lots of love and affection. Also, if this is possible if the dog were "fixed" that would be ideal as well. I don't want to have a puppy shipped to me in a plane because I believe that is cruel. If someone who lives in the chicago land area has a puppy to sell then I hope to maybe meet and play with the puppy first, just to get to know the personality. I know these are a lot of things to ask for but I think these are reasonable requests. I am looking for a companion that I can grow up with. Thanks for your time. Please email me at sairakhan15639@hotmail.com with the subject of yorkshire. Thanks so much.

if you are looking for a pet yorkie and do not care if it is registered(only needed to show), You can usually find yorkies for adoption on petfinder.org or search for yorkshire terrier rescue groups on a search engine. They oftentimes have yorkies for adoption that were rescued from uncaring people. There are alot of yorkies who have been abandoned because people don't research them before they go out and buy one. only to find they cannot keep them.

Molly, that is an excellent suggestion, rescues are always looking for responsible owners.  You are right about not likely getting registration papers if you are rescuing.
However, you are wrong about registration papers on a purebred only being necessary to show a purebred in dog shows.  Any dog or puppy represented as purebred must be registerable with the American Kennel Club in the US or the Canadian Kennel Club in Canada.  Those are the only recognized Clubs verifying authenticity of purebred status.  Those clubs carry the Stud Registry for the purebred breeds they recognize.
Therefore, even when buying for pet only, the breeder must have the litter registered.  In the US, the breeder must provide the registration/transfer of ownership to the new owner at no extra cost to the buyer.  The breeder can stipulate a Limited or Non-breeding status on the form.  Most reputable breeders in the US will pay for and put through the Individual Dog Registration with ownership transferred to the new owner and their kennel name in the registered name of the puppy.  However, if the transfer/registration form is provided to the new owner, the new owner submits the information and from what I know, pays for this themselves which is less than $20.  I do not know if this has changed putting the onus on the US breeder to do the paperwork and pay for it too.  The prices that most of these puppies are selling for, there is no reason for the breeder to not pay the registration fees.
Canada is slightly different.  The litter registration and Individual Dog Registration as well as transfer of ownership to the new owner must be provided by the breeder again at no extra cost to the buyer.  In Canada, a non-breeding contract can be stipulated for puppies sold for pet only but registration certificates will still be issued. This is federal law in both countries. In Canada, it costs less than $50 to register and transfer a puppy to the new owner.  Don't ever pay extra for papers, it's illegal anyway.
Registration provides the authenticity of purebred status.  You must still be very cautious of the breeder you are dealing with as the registration paperwork is submitted and processed in good faith by both registering bodies assuming the breeder is reputable. As with anything people and money get involved with, scams happen. Be informed.

Cuddly pup is not a reputable breeder website.  This looks like a broker.  No reputable breeder would sell puppies in this manner.  The Yorkies are being shipped way too young.  No reputable breeder will ship without meeting the buyer first and having the buyer visit the breeder. As stated in previous posts, avoid any site listing 'teacups'.  If you have trouble understanding the info on previous posts read slower and use a dictionary or thesaurus if necessary.  PLease please do not contribute to keeping these sorts of people in business.  It is at the cost of the mothers, fathers, and puppies themselves.  Is that really what you want to do?

Li--and it's really sad that a so-called legitimate breeder would advertise on this website "teacup yorkies" when the buyers have only to go to legitimate sites like Yorkshire Terriers Club and see that teacups don't EXIST!!  To me it should show to all these peoople looking for yorkies that these baby doll clothes breeders care ONLY about the money in their pockets!!  Why would anyone on THIS site use the term "teacup" or be looking for a yorkie UNDER 4 pounds--I'd be embarrassed to admit it after all the information posted here!!!  Shows that the novelty of owning one of these poor puppies outweighs the risks to the dog's health--those people should not OWN pets!!!  I could understand if people weren't given responsible sites to go to that are on-line for the benefit of the breed, NOT to make money.  These sights give the facts and people are choosing to keep irresponsible puppy mills and baby clothes breeders in business--at the cost to the puppies!!!!!

Missing a post again.  No, there is no such thing as a short haired Yorkie.  If you see one with short hair, it has been clipped or scissored short.  Some Yorkies can have a coarser coat that will be very slow growing but will eventually get long, just takes longer than average to grow.  Those coats usually stay darker in colour and don't tend to mat quite as easily.
Novelty Yorkies - yes, you would be surprised at the people contacting me looking for a 'teacup' and dont want to believe me when I tell them the true scenario.  If they don't know and I educate them fine, but if they don't want to be educated I won't sell them one that will be particularly small even if I happen to have one which I very seldom do.
BTW gh, I found the pet store query page and posted to it.

bluiis---SO sorry to hear about your loss!!!  I had two yorkies--they passed away within 9 months of each other and were both 15 years old also.  I was devastated.  I didn't understand people that were so attached to their pets (after all they are ONLY animals) until I had my guys.  They were raised with my kids and were members of the family!!  I still miss them.  They each have a headstone in my backyard and pics of them are all over my house--with the pics of my kids.  So we who LOVE our pets understand what you are going through.  I WISH I could help you with finding a good breeder.  I am nowhere near you.  I still say word of mouth, or local vets and groomers may have referrals.  Or do what Li suggests and try the YTC--but you still have to be careful.  I just lucked out in finding my new yorkie (I waited a year and a half).  My daughter worked with a girl whose aunt breeds them..so I knew the circumstances.  He is a joy and I love him tons already!!  Don't give up--especially since you know how wonderful they are to have around!!  and I really think all the posted advice above is correct--don't get one under 4#--it isn't fair to the puppy!!  Or the poor puppy's mother--still no disagreement from any breeders on that fact--just more advertising--that should tell us SOMETHING. They obviously can't defend themselves!!  There is no defense and they know it!!Keep searching and if I happen to come across anything I will for sure contact you.  Good luck and my deepest sympathy!!

gh,
Thanks so much. I feel better when You talk to people that understand. I am so sad, I was never able to have children so she became everything to me. Saying a dog is your "best Friend" doesn't really explain what she was. My husband is so sad that he can't wait another day for another, and he has his own dog. I went to the YTC of America on-line and called the breeders they listed in So. Calif. none had puppies and 3 offered me adult females ranging from 3 - 6 years old that they are done breeding for $2000 to $3000. Unbelievable isn't it. I am talking to a breeder in Michigan that a friend bought a Yorkie from 2 months ago. This is an elderly woman who really seems to do it as a labor of love. She even babysits her dogs for free if you go on vacation. She said she'ld rather have them come back home for a week or two than be out in a cage. I wouldn't be able to use that service if I do get one of her pups unfortunately. She has promised her current pups to others right now, but has just had 2 females at a stud so maybe she will have more soon. I have family in Michigan, and considering this woman sells her males for $550 and females for $750 it would be cheaper for me to fly there, meet her, visit family & bring the pup home than it would be for me to buy one in So. Calif. One of the Calif. breeders did admit to me that they get more $ for Yorkies out here than anywhere else.  That seems about right since just about everything cost more in California than the rest of the country. I do have a question for you and the others that may read this; other than the contract, what should I ask a breeder to know if they are a good one? This woman said she always uses a stud so that she doesn't inter breed. She also releases her pups at 6 weeks (which I thought was to early). She said she never let's her pups outside for threat of picking up germs, therefor they get to attached to her if she keeps them past the 6-7 week mark. She makes sure all shots have been given befor they are released. Does that sound ok? Thanks

I just visited this sight for the first time and found so much good information.  I encourage and beg each of you looking for a Yorkie to visit sights such as petfinder.com, Yorkshire Terrier Rescue Network or United Yorkie Rescue.  There are so many little yorkie rescue dogs out there in need of a good home. I found Ricky my 10 lb wonder Yorkie at petfinder.com and was able to adopt him for only $75.  So many times rescue dogs have had very hard lives and have more love to give than you could even imagine.  Even a pure bred Yorkie doesn't come with papers when you rescue/adopt, but they give you back 1000 times more love than what you pay for in adoption/rescue fees.  Thanks for considering rescue/adoption and saving a Yorkies life.

No need to thank me--trust me--I CAN'T know exactly how you feel at loosing your pet, but I know how devastated I was.  One of my guys passed away at the vet..it killed me that I wasn't with him.  The other one was on my living room floor and I laid beside him and just petted him and talked to him til he was gone.  It is ssoo hard!!
Li is much more of an expert than I am--but one thing I would insist on is a LIFETIME genetic guarantee.  I got that with my new guy and he was $850.00.  Some of the prices are OUTRAGEOUS!!  Because like Li said in a post above, sometimes genetic problems don't show up til the dogs are 5 plus years old.  I could never give mine back if he DID have a problem, but I am more comfortable knowing that the breeder is sure enough of her puppies to offer it.  I think 6-7 weeks is kind of early, too but like I said..I'm not an expert..just a yorkie LOVER!!  lol   Good luck to you!!!

So you don't like the word      "Teacup"?

We use the word Teacup to explain the potential size of a pup. We could call it a Tiny, Teeny Weeny, Bitszy, Dwarf, Miniature, Diminutive, or some other adjective that would describe a tiny dog, but we like the word Teacup.

There are many reputable breeders who specialize in small dogs.  All breeders and most people looking for the small Yorkies know there is no AKC Teacup Standard, they just know it means small.

The breeders who hate the word Teacup no matter what they think it means will always charge you more money for the, Teacup, Tiny, Teeny Weeny, Bitszy, Dwarf, Miniature, Diminutive, sized pups they are offering. Look at any web site selling Yorkie pups, the breeders that complain about the word Teacup on their web site and how it affects OTHER breeders pups prices will ALWAYS, ALWAYS, sell you their Tiny, Teeny Weeny, Bitszy, Dwarf, Miniature, Diminutive or "Teacup" sized pups at the highest price.

No matter what they say about the word "Teacup", small Yorkies mean more $$$, and they know it!

At yorkiepup.com we have long lines of champions in our breeding Yorkies, but we never use that to determine the price of a pup. We don't do AKC dog shows or follow any AKC standards, but we do breed & raise what people want, and that is loving, Teacup, Tiny, Teeny Weeny, Bitszy, Dwarf, Miniature, Diminutive, puppies!

If some people think the AKC doesn't recognize ,Teacup, Tiny, Teeny Weeny, Bitszy, Dwarf, Miniature, Diminutive, sized Yorkies, then maybe they should tell the AKC to quit accepting money from the hundreds of breeders who pay thousands and thousands of dollars each year to register their Teacup sized pup litters. You don't see the AKC turning away that money - now do you?

Teacup, Toy, and Standard are only words we use to describe the size of pups or adults, it has nothing to do with the AKC, ACA, UKC, CKC or any of the other 50+ dog registerations available out there.

There is such a thing as "Teacup" sized Yorkies, and we have them!

We are loving breeders of Yorkshire Terriers in the Atlanta area, and would never consider calling our pups Teacups....No such standard has been considered by the AKC or CKC registry's.  We call our Yorkies by the term TOY's.  Our pups are approximately 4.0 lb. at full maturity.  We have never sold a pup for over $800, and feel we are resonable within the Yorkie Fancier's Club prices for pups.  We never ship via cargo, but ask that our new owners consider taking a discounted R/T flight into Atlanta to pick up their new baby as it is very hard on a Toy dog to be placed in a cargo hold for who knows how long.  We feel it is safer and less stressful on the pup.  If anyone wishes to see our Sire and Dam please contact us at g300d@yahoo.com  We will have a new litter in December, 2004.

I think it's very sad that you put so much extra time and effort into getting puppies to 2 pounds!!  I think the puppy's health should be your main concern, not $$$.   People looking for yorkies--don't take MY word for it, call ANY vet and ask for yourself .
T.K.--the breeder I got my puppy from has no litters right now--she doesn't MASS produce dogs--I have written your e-mail address down and I'll let you know when she has some.  But check with local vets and groomers, too.  I still say word of mouth and NOT on-line advertising is your best bet for a responsible breeder.

Sorry, Jeff, you are so very wrong.  There are many breeders that cash in on 'teacup' and you I guess are one of them.  There are many who neither breed for them nor do they sell them at vastly trumped up prices. Many REPUTABLE breeders won't even sell anything that will reach under 3 1/2 lbs full grown at least until it is closer to a year old, spayed/neutered already, and they are sure it is going to be okay and sell for the same price as any pet puppy they are selling. If they aren't sure, they will usually give it free, gratis to a relative or friend that knows the dog may be short lived and they provide all the help and guidance they need along the way. Sometimes it works out the dog leads a relatively normal life, often they don't, but the pet owner hasn't paid huge bucks for it and went into it fully informed usually already owning a Yorkie so aren't left totally bereft if the undersized one doesn't make it.
Anything on the smaller side is often sold for the same pet price as any other size, max maybe a few hundred more if it is sure to be healthy, but never for thousands. You see Jeff, a reputable purebred breeder breeds only registered purebred quality dogs that meet the breed standards set out by the AKC for that breed.  As with any mating, not all the pups in a litter will be show quality.  Sometimes some are undersized or oversized.  Those that are not show quality, are very healthy quality pet puppies and are sold for pet under spay/neuter contracts to the right home.  You will know what I am talking about if you know anything at all about the world of purebred dogs, if not, it is over your head.  Reputable breeders always ask more questions than the buyer in their interview and will turn them down if it is determined in their experience this is not the right breed, the right time, or the right owner for their puppy.
You see, Jeff, a reputable breeder will sell a dog with guarantees that they honor. If a puppy is sold that will be say 2# full grown, and the breeder charges $3,000, then if that puppy has a health problem, the breeder would have to replace or refund the FULL purchase price.  As a breeder that sold this puppy you could also be responsible for Veterinary costs incurred by the pet puppy owner you have sold especially because it is documented by Veterinarians and the YTCA website that these are high risk puppies and their members do not promote or breed for them.  I guess t in your guarantees you should have that clause to cover vet costs as well if you are so sure your puppies are healthy that you will pay Vet costs no matter how much if the puppy is found to be of substandard health etc by a qualified Veterinarian.  You will learn a lot if you read the whole message board but I guess you don't want to know and would rather talk these people into believing you.
Shame on the breeders that have these 'teacup' websites and promoting something like that. I have no idea why you insist you are providing something you are claiming people want.  People want them because you are telling them they are okay, they are wonderful etc. I get calls from people who think they want 'teacup' I educate them and they are so very grateful and change their mind pretty darn fast.  So you go about bringing these lives into the world that could very well be miserable because of ill health, more than likely to die at a young age.  These puppies are not wonderful and it is a tragedy that this is going on.  As gh asked what kind of guarantees do you have for your puppies and the really big question is, Do you honor anything?  Did anyone go to the site I quoted on another message board about the owner of a 3#Yorkie that wasn't warned, it is now six years old and now the owner has spent $25,000 yes twenty five thousand not hundred, in Vet bills to date because of its health problems?
Again, $3,000 to $5,000 buys a guaranteed show quality dog from a reputable breeder, not an undersized Yorkie or whatever creation you think you are doing.  Did you know that if you are breeding crossbreeds no reputable purebred club will allow you into its membership as you are supposed to be promoting HEALTHY purebreds?
Not all purebred breeders are in it for the dollar.  Easy to spot the ones who are and aren't.  Any website anyone is visiting should ask themselves, is this person doing a service to the world of dogs purebreds or not or are they doing a good job of filling their pocket with money by providing some novelty item? Do they have more than one or two breeds at the most?  Do they show their dogs at bona fide dog shows through the AKC or Canadian Kennel Club, how many litters a year do they produce, how often do they breed their females starting and ending at what ages?  When a breeder only has maybe 9 or 10 puppies or less in year to sell for pet, we aren't flooded with puppies and can honor guarantees, sell with care, and know our puppies very well.
Read the information on the AKC website at www.akc.org to learn about the world of purebred dogs. Yes, the AKC will register a breeders puppies or dogs even if they are not a member in good standing of the AKC.  The AKC is a registration body only and assumes the breeder is reputable unless proven otherwise.  Any breeder selling any registered puppies still have to be carefully scrutinized by the buyer to determine if this person is reputable or not.

Missed your other post Jeff.  Nowhere on any AKC registration papers will the AKC in the US or Canadian Kennel Club in Canada ever have Teacup etc as nominclature describing the Yorkshire Terrier. Your teacup, micro etc only appears on your website and on the websites of breeders like you and, I would guess, on your reciepts? or does it?  The Akc is only a registration body and until someone proves otherwise that a breeder is not reputable, records or not correct etc, they will register the puppies for the breeder submitting the appropriate paperwork.  The AKC would register your puppies but you are not submitting any information saying they are teacup or whatever you have dreamed up.  The AKC registration paper carries the registered name of the puppy, the breed ie Yorkshire Terrier, Colour, sire and dam registered names and numbers, breeders name, new owners name, date of birth of the puppy, male or female, and date the registration was issued.  Size is never asked for or given for the Yorkie for either the litter registration or the Individual Dog Registration Certificate.
I know full well that you are cashing in on the fact that some breeds do have varieties, some in coat, some in color, some in size.  Those varieties are given in the breed standards for those breeds and are registered accordingly.  For example, in the poodle, their is the Toy, Miniature, and Standard poodle Varieties.  The Toy poodle breed standard for size says it must be under 10" at the whithers.  It is classed in the Toy Group.  The Miniature Poodle is more than 10" tall and less than 15".  It is classed in Group 6.  The Standard Poodle also in Group 6, is more than 15" tall. I am sure most pet puppy buyers have heard those terms and therefore would think it might be reasonable that there are teacups etc.  There is no teacup nomenclature for any purebred dog in any breed standard.
The Dachshund is in the Hound Group.  It comes in different sizes and coat types.  There is a Miniature and Standard Dachshund and the coat types are longhaired, short haired, and wire haired.  There are actually, therefore, 6 varieties of Dachsies, each in their own class at any dog show all are in the Hound Group.
The Yorkie is in the Toy Group. Breed Standard calls for less than 7 lbs.  Most reputable breeders consider less than 4lbs to be undersized, more than 7 lbs is over sized.  As in any purebred breed of dog, size variations occur in the breed with the same nomenclature consideration given by any reputable breeder of the smaller end of the scale being undersized; larger end of the scale oversized whether you are talking about Shelties or Golden Retrievers or Yorkies.  Much of this is explained in books from the AKC and the Westminster Dog Show held in New York in February is always broadcast on Tv.  They have an excellent commentator that gives all kinds of information on purebred dogs.
I fully realize you don't breed to any breed standards because you are in it for money only.  Pet puppies sold by reputable show breeders are sold for pet prices of about $1000 or less to $1200 maybe $1500 depending on where the breeder is located and cost of living economics for the area.  Some will sell for less just to have a puppy in a good home.  As we show our own dogs etc the pedigree and Championships behind our dogs mean way more to us than to the pet puppy buyer.  But it does illustrate to the pet puppy buyer that WE CARE ENOUGH ABOUT OUR BREED TO PAY ATTENTION TO BREED STANDARDS.  We not only have Champions from other kennels that show their dogs in our pedigrees, we have our own Champions with our kennel name we have shown and got championship titles on and we also know the breeder personally or through friends, know the dogs on those pedigrees, know who owns them, what they look like, whether alive or dead, Champions they have sired or whelped, everything including health.
Puppies are not inanimate objects flying off store shelves.  These are live creatures, loyal, affectionate, and deserve the best including the careful planning that brought them into the world in the first place not to just supply some insane pet novelty market.

I looked at your website, Jeff...you sell your puppies with a ONE YEAR genetic guarantee.  BUYER BEWARE!!!!!  My breeder gave me a written LIFETIME genetic guarantee--if you ar wise, you will INSIST on that!!  Anyone who knows they are selling healthy puppies will OFFER it!!  Since that wasn't included in your post and you haven't "advertised" it here, I looked it up for myself.
And, PLEASE explain why you show these puppies in DOLL CLOTHES???  To make the puppy cuter and the NOVELTY more attractive to buyers??!!  To also SELL clothes for puppies?  For $$$$?  The breeders, like Li says that are not MASS producing puppies, but have a few litters a year are much safer for the buyer!!  And you obviously do NOT screen your buyers--how can you when you sell to ANYONE ON-LINE and then SHIP the puppy on an airplane..you don't care who buys your puppies as long as they don't commit credit card fraud!!  You site is very clear on that  point.
I think the average person does realize that teacup exists as a term to describe these dogs...nobody disputes that--it is not a recognized term for a breeder who CARES about the breed!!  You admit you put extra "attention and care" into producing these novelty puppies....it's a SHAME that you are producing UNDERSIZED yorkies ON PURPOSE.  If I pay you $3800.00 for a puppy and it grows to be bigger than you advertise, would you refund the difference????  NO breeder has answered that question>I highly doubt you would.  And with only a ONE YEAR genetic guarantee, you are leaving a LOT of people out in the cold with these undersized puppies!!!

LI and/or GH ... I read the whole message board so far and I am so glad you put up all that information.  I learned so much!!  I appreciate it!  :)  If you know of any good breeders in particular like the ones you have described in the LA, California area ... Please let me know!! I am also trying to look through the websites you have recommended.  My friend also wants one.  She wanted to buy one from a pet store and i did not let her, because i know about the pet stores...however, i did not know that some breeders are just as bad!  I did not know that people are shipping the dogs all around.  That is cruel!  I'm so sad that people do things like that.  I've been looking into getting a yorkie for years.  Please, please...let me know any more information or specific breeders you may know of.  Every bit of information helps!  Again, thank you so much for the information rich posts!!  My e-mail address  is  cutie_piso@yahoo.com  unless you would like to post a response on this message board.  Either way!  :)

TH,
Unfortunately, with the money that can be made on puppies, there are more and more greedy type of breeders all the time at the cost of the suffering of the animal.  They do not all sell through pet stores as they are one giant pet store themselves.
I have sent you some email addresses info on breeders in California.  Get in touch with them, if they don't have anything they may know someone who does.  Post a message on this board if you you didn't get it.  Good Luck

Li--You're great!!!  Like I said, I am nowhere near being an expert on yorkies!  I just know what I know through reading and COMMON SENSE!!  and also from owning a 3# yorkie for 15 years.  My WAY earlier post described the problem my poor little guy had.  LUCKILY, my brother (who bred him and NOT on (purpose) gave him to me.  Who knows what would've happened if he had come from a baby-doll breeder? and gone to a family that didn't know that the UNDERSIZED yorkies could have those problems.  You know if the breeders labeled them UNDERSIZED, instead of teacup--they wouldn't sell them!!  That's why they use those NOVELTY terms.  Would you buy an UNDERSIZED tree, or an UNDERSIZED plant, or UNDERSIZED ANYTHING????  No--but give it a cutsie name and dress it up like a doll and what do you know---$$$$!!! to be made!  I wish I could help everybody looking for a yorkie--they are so lovable and deserve the BEST homes.  I repeat myself, I know, but PLEASE don't buy from these on-line breeders..please be good to the breed.  They are SO worth the search.  Keep looking for that LIFETIME genetic guarantee--like I said, I wouldn't give mine back no matter WHAT happened to be wrong--but I feel so secure in my purchase knowing that my breeder has the confidence in her puppies to offer a WRITTEN LIFETIME genetic guarantee.  She doesn't sell them and when the check clears, forget about them!!!!  Again, Li-I'm so glad you are able to give these yorkie lovers some help in their searches--I wish I could do more!!!

Phoenix---I wrote down your e-mail address--I am in Ill. also and will let you know when my breeder has a litter...but she doesn't "mass produce" dogs for sale like some of the on-line breeders.   She sells by word of mouth so she can know who is getting her puppies.  I'll e-mail you when she has a litter.

Liz, I also have a degree from an accredited University.  As a student, there was no way I could afford or have the time for a puppy or a dog.  You are far too busy with studies, friends, commitments etc.  Living accommodations are often iffy for students.  I would strongly suggest you wait until you graduate, have a job lined up, are settled with your life etc.
Also keep in mind that if you are young, plan on marrying and having children the Yorkie will not blend most of the time with new babies.  This is the time most young couples will surrender a Yorkie to a shelter or new home or do not provide the care it should receive. A dog, Yorkie or other breed, is a 24/7 hopefully 12 to 15+  year commitment. Most young adults are exploring their lives and there is often a hitch that comes up that precludes the care of their dog.  I usually do not sell to students for that reason.
Look at your daily life throughout the whole year not just during terms or between your terms at school, and consider if you really do have the time and can make the commitment to a dog of any breed.

These threads are so saddening to me! Seriously! There is NO such thing as a teacup yorkie- it is just a ploy some people have to charge higher prices. If you are looking for an "inexpensive" be warned! Buying an inexpensive dog, might get you one with health problems! Even if you do get buy with no health problems, you'll need to buy a lot of things for your new puppy- I spent a LOT of $$$ when I got Honeybabe, and that is just the nessecities.
AVOID PET STORES!
NEVER, ever, ever get a dog from a pet store, or buy things from a store that sells pets! Go to www.puppymillrescue.com to see why!
NEVER BUY A DOG FOR A PRESENT, always consult with the person before hand and make sure they want a dog, and have time to take care of it. Also, a birthday party or christmas party would be SO stressfull for a little puppy it is better not to give it to them then....
if you want any yorkshire terrier breeder/rescue recommendations you may email me at thegeneralX1@yahoo.com and I'll try to help you.

I live in Northern Illinois, and I have been online and in the newspapers for months looking for a yorkie.  A pet store in a strip mall priced them for $1900, and they suggested I not buy from a breeder.  There are so many misconceptions out here, and it's becomes a task just to purchase a pup.  I to agree the prices online are unreal, and the shipping sounds like a nightmare.  I was told not to buy them out the local paper, because I would have no way of knowing if they were healthy or not, and no guarantees.  I did look up some Illinois breeders and found the pups were priced from $550 & up.  One breeder that I found on breedersonline, took a deposit to assure me a puppy from the new litter, and will meet me at a delivery site so I can pick my puppy out.  This breeder has also sent photo's to my email.

Silky, please, a pet store will tell you anything.  No reputable breeder will EVER put a puppy into a pet store to sell through a third party.  Yes, the Internet is chock full of unethical breeders selling their wares like bars of soap off a store shelf.  Don't meet breeders in parking lots or anywhere except their home where they have their dogs.  You have no clue where that puppy is coming from otherwise. Breeders are not being 'nice' or 'helpful'
Most reputable breeders sell pet puppies for about $1000 give or take a few hundred.  You can't expect to pay much less.  If you can't afford that, rescue one.
www.puppymills.com is an excellent info site that tells you about puppymills.  This is where pet stores and brokers get their wares.  Again, no caring reputable breeder will ever sell their puppies to a pet store or broker to sell.

LlndsayRyan--If you get a yorkie it will be small!!  ALL yorkies are small!  A 6-7 pound yorkie is a small dog.  Please don't help these puppy brokers by paying money for anything under 4-5 pounds!!  If you notice, the baby doll breeders only jump on with their posts when they want to advertise!!  They can't make a legitimate argument for what they do so you only hear from them when they have a litter to sell!!  No explanation as to why they dress the puppies up like dolls, or why they breed these undersized puppies on purpose.  It speaks volumes to ME that they can't justify their actions--but you can bet when the next litter is born, they'll be right back hawkin' their websites!!  ANY yorkie is a small yorkie--please just go for HEALTH, not SIZE!!!!

Jkasare,
Your local Department stores and Chinaware shops carry lovely teacups if you are talking about collectable china ware.  If you are talking about a dog, read the previous posts. I assume with your post, you didn't read squat.
Your handicapped daughter will likely end up with a tragedy if you persist in pursuing the purchase of a Yorkie or any other breed for that matter dubbed a 'teacup'.  Don't put your daughter at jeopardy if you don't chose to believe what you have read on this board. Find a nice quality Yorkie and it will be a small dog anyway.

Jeff I will try to explain again as you don't get it.
1. Reputable breeders who DO NOT charge big bucks for undersized Yorkies don't have puppies advertised for sale on their websites, message boards or any other marketing ploy like you do to sell puppies at all.  Their websites only indicates that they have Yorkies, pictures of their dogs that they show to Championship titles, puppies maybe from years past, so people have an idea of what they look like and what they are about.  There are many of them around.
2.  AKC is a registration body only.  They register puppies/dogs assuming the information given by the breeder is correct unless proven otherwise.  There is no indication on the form that you might be registering an undersized or oversized representative of whatever breed you have.  Your reputation is up to you. If you aren't reputable, I am sure if you let the AKC know that, they will not take your money anymore or accept your registrations.
3. I happen to have a very very busy life as I am sure gh does to.  However, as an avid fancier of the Yorkie, I hate seeing the general public being taken in by people selling their wares like bars of soap off a shelf and putting many many little Yorkie lives at risk because you want to supply what you know is a huge money making market for yourself and others like you.
For each prospective buyer that has read this message board and NOT BOUGHT from you or anyone like you, is one more hitch I have thrown into your pathetic way of making a living, one more person I likely have saved from a tragedy.  I have a job, and it isn't making money off of selling dogs at their peril and the peril of their new owners.
Can you say the same?
Li

I answered this part separate as long posts seem to confuse you too much Jeff.
You may claim to have Championships in your lines and you are right you certainly didn't get the titles on them yourself.  The show breeders that did did not sell you a dog either, nobody reputable would.  Unfortunately, for show breeders they sometimes have trusted the wrong person and let people use their stud dogs for breeding or sold them a puppy that ultimately was used for breeding but puppies were not supposed to be sold for breeding. Those lines have made their way into kennels that are not reputable. In the last five years, show breeders have been much more careful about this making it much harder for breeders like yourself to get a hold of their dogs.
No, reputable breeders who show their own dogs do not charge more for pet puppies that they sell just because there are champions in the line.  Granted some likely do, but it still doesn't make it ethical.  There are many who don't.  A pet puppy is a pet puppy, not meant to be bred but enjoyed as a pet and sold for the price in accordance with that understanding.  A backyard breeder or puppy mill will try to get a champion in their line and they will sell their puppies for more money because they don't understand the world of purebred dogs at all.  A reputable breeder never does.
If somebody wants to get into breeding and approaches a reputable show breeder, the dog may be sold under co-ownership if you can talk the breeder into it, and the dog will be shown to its title before the breeder will ever allow it to be bred.
This is likely over your head Jeff as you have done the same thing for so many years.  I have tried to teach Backyard breeders and those that don't understand purebred dogs and the purpose of them but once they have tasted the big bucks, teaching them the love of the purebred never works.  I don't expect you to change, I suspect you are more upset that this information on this board could help upset your apple cart a little bit.
If you really believe in what you are doing is ethical you wouldn't need to argue it here.  From most of the responses on this board of people looking for puppies, I would guess my input has made a lot of sense to them.

I actually tried calling Jeff Dane of Yorkiepup.com the other day, interested in buying a small Yorkie. I must admit, I know little about dogs and assumed that if it's expensive, it must be nice. However, it wasn't his dogs that I was not impressed with. It was his attitude. I have no problem spending $5000 on a dog that I know will bring me a lot of happiness, but if I am going to spend that much money I would insist on the seller being nice and helpful. Instead I found that Mr. Dane was rude, unhelpful, sarcastic, and for some reason, in a hurry to get off the phone. I feel as though it is my obligation to warn anyone who is thinking about buying a yorkie, spend a lot of time looking and get to know the seller. Make sure it is someone who you enjoy doing business with.

Well, Emily, glad you talked to this guy yourself and have learned what you did and posted your experience.  And does the post from Mr. Dane on this board where he has repeated himself numerous times in one post not tell everybody something?  Sure tells me the whole story and I am neither a psychologist or in the psyciatric field either.
I feel rather sorry for you and very very sorry for all your dogs.

I am in Dallas, TX.  I'm looking for a yorkie pup (who in here isn't)  I will never ever ever buy a puppy online....I have already made some attempts to look for one "in person" flesh de flesh.....I found two but they were standard "big" pupps....I want a small yorkie.  Not like pint size or like tiny "just" HEALTHY but smaller about 4-6lbs.  There is a place in Grand Prairie that sales puppies for 500 and they are so cute.....to bad a was broke.  Anyway LI/GH or someone with a HEART FOR ANIMALS please if you have any info for me let me know. Thanks. By the way paying over 500 is too much money....these puppies just need a home.......it would benifit this animals more if they had a loving careing home to go where they can have a long heatlhy life.......loveing your animal is key here people......all this "breeders" selling these puppies for over 800 are just SICK!!!.....what if our children were sold that way......wouldn't u try to stop it?  animals are just as important!!!!!!!

I have been out of town for funeral--I just had a chance to read all the last posts (since MY last one)....Li--we don't have a life because we LOVE Yorkies?  That was a VERY sad, and TELLING statement as to the business practices of Jeff Dane.
Mr. Dane, I have NEVER, nor would I EVER attack you personally-I don't know you--but OBVIOUSLY Emily from the above post had the pleasure!!  and you know what-if we want to read your advertising, we'll go to your website-if you can't write original posts, why don't you stay off the message board.  and you never ecxplained why you dress your puppies up and BALANCE THEM ON POP CANS!!  Why don't you tell these people the truth--it's to make money on UNDERSIZED YORKIES!!  They don't look cuter--they look sad and pathetic!!  Why don't you explain why you don't call them UNDERSIZED??  You avoided that question also by hurling personal remarks at those of us who care about yorkies!!  You can't hide the fact that you have NO DEFENSE for what you are doing!!  Call us names, make fun of our opinions, whatever you have to do but remember potential customers are reading your posts and I bet you can write off a bunch of them--by your OWN actions.  I don't care what cutesy name you give the puppies--the only ACCURATE one is UNDERSIZED..you know it and now a LOT of other people looking for yorkies know it.  I haven't heard a lot of positive feedback on your posts--doesn't that TELL you something?  Li and I, and HOPEFULLY a lot of other people reading these post will keep on spreading the word that a yorkie under 4 pounds is UNDERSIZED and at risk for MANY problems!!  You admit to breeding them on purpose--and yes, we consumers realize that any UNDERSIZED dog brings more $$$ to the selfish people breeding them--that is EXACTLY our point, I'm glad you agree with it!!  That's why we encourage people NOT to buy from you at the cost to these puppies.  Don't tell me a puppy LIKES being dressed in doll clothes--NOBODY that loves animals will buy that!!  I think your business practices must be pretty sad and I would LOVE to hear from others besides Emily who have spoken or dealt with you as a customer.  You are doing a great job of proving every word Li and I have said true--thank you for making our job a little easier!!!!  The more you respond, the worse you look to animal LOVERS!!!!!
Yorkie Lover--thanx for your thumbs up--all we can ALL do is keep trying to spread the word and stop businesses like these.  Obviously if a person is rude to a POTENTIAL customer, he will CERTAINLY NOT be helpful to a person who has purchased a puppy from him and had problems!!!   Doesn't that make sense?????  I have a feeling once the cash hits the bank, what Emily dealt with would be considered FRIENDLY!!!!!  So Mr. Dane, please keep responding and making our point clearer for us...but try to be original instead of just sending your advertising and hurling personal attacks.  I am not talking about YOU as a person, but your business practices. Emily would have to speak to you as a person!!!!

By the way, Mr. Dane--when you were forwarding your advertising in your above posts, you left out your genetic guarantee--maybe people reading these posts would be interested in the protection you offer when you sell an UNDERSIZED dog to them??  What was that guarantee, again?  You failed to answer THAT question also.
Li--Please let me know if you know other message boards to post to...if this is the kind of customer service (per Emily) offered by these breeder on-line than I think we have a LOT of posting to do.  Live, breathing creatures cannot be sold by people that are only interested in $$$.  We need to spread the word further.  Anyone else, please do so, also.

Its so easy to hide behind a web name. If you notice, I'm not hiding, my name is Jeff Dane.

Your Emily lady called wanting a pup for almost free. She had the same sad story most people have who can't afford a tiny Yorkie have. When you hear enough of these type of buyers on the phone, you just have to stop the call right there. You now hold her up as your champion and you don't even know the whole story, very typical on your part. Do you really think if Emily was going to spend $5000 with me that I would want her to hang up? She was just a tire kicker, nothing more and I can spot them right off the bat. They are the ones that say they don't need papers, its just a pet, not for shows, not for breeding, and even ask sometimes if there a shipping charge, duh?,  They always want a tiny, cheap female, "Teacup",,,,,, and none of those lines work with any breeder.

I just can't understand why you keep bringing up the AKC & champions,,,, we don't care about either, period. We sell more Yorkie mixed pups than we sell pure bred Yorkies. Anyone can bred and raise a Yorkie pup that will mature to 5 to 7 lbs and I mean anyone, it takes much love and devotion to care & raise Teacup sized pups.

I just don't understand where you think what you have the right to tell me or anyone else that the word "Undersized" is what we have to use to decribe a pups size, they are my pups and I will call them what ever I want. This is the US and the market place for word "Teacup" sized pups of any breed is way bigger than a few posters on this web page. Type "Teacup" in a search engine! Thousands will be listed.

You are right on one issue, it is all about the money, not a single person in the breeding business spends 15 hours a day, 7 days a week caring for dogs because they think its just so much fun that they need to be poor and still do it. You need to spend a month working with a large scale breeder before you can even have a educated opinion on this subject.

If you could;

1) Please list all the breeders or kennels you know with a "Lifetime" unconditional health guarantee that you keep talking about. I will pay you $100 for everyone you can name & I can verify.

2) Please list all these breeders you keep talking about that sell or give away these "Undersized" Yorkies when they have them. I'm sure almost everyone on this board including myself would be interested in this new found cheap scorce of "Undersized" Yorkies. There will be NONE listed by you, that I will also put my money up against.

Li & gh are nothing but sour grapes on small dogs and it shows. Over the last 22 years, we have had hundreds of customers with Yorkies that matured under 4 lbs and all are very happy Teacup sized pup owners. Even my parents own a 2 lb, 16 year old male Yorkie from me named Maximus and except for his teeth falling out now, he has had a great healty long life.

I will be watching this board for the breeders & kennels names so you can back up your words.

Mr. Dane, I don't believe in any of posts I have mentioned knowing breeders (other then my brother).  As far as your conversation with Emily goes--you are a business man and when a customer calls you, I think that no matter WHAT they are looking for, they deserve respect--just because they aren't interested in OVER padding your pocket doesn't mean that they should be treated rudely.  You OBVIOUSLY, by your own admission are only interested in the people with the BIG bucks-not finding good homes for your dogs.  YOU are the person selling the dogs--I think that we all deserve answers to OUR questions as possible consumers.  I also never said I had a LIST of breeders offering lifetime genetic guarantees.  I FOUND ONE by word of mouth.  You have yet to tell us YOUR genetic guarantee--just worried about knowing who else offers them.  You KNOW, as a breeder that genetic problems may not show up for many years--the average buyer may NOT know that--that's why Li and I are trying to educate them..so they don't have the heartbreak of buying a puppy for thousands of dollars and 2 or 3 years later learn that it has genetic problems and then go back to you for help...you won't BE there--the check has cleared.  That is the point I'm making to these unsuspecting buyers..I have never said that ALL breeders, or even MANY breeders offer it.  Just that I hope people are aware that a short-term genetic guarantee at these prices and with these undersized dogs is VERY risky!!  I HAD a 3# yorkie for 15 years myself--so congrats to your parents!!  You are a business man--I don't think after reading your angry posts there are many people on this site that would buy from you--or any other sites we can find to post the facts for unsuspecting buyers.  You are VERY much on the defensive, but what we would like from you, as a "professional" is answers to our questions, not personal attacks.  Calling a potential buyer (Emily)  a tire kicker!!  Of course you would have given her more time if she had been willing to spend $5,00.00 with you--that's the point.  But you know what--she may have given a puppy an EXCELLENT home for a reasonable amount of money!!  But that's not your interest, is it?  Maybe if you didn't MASS produce dogs and ship them all over the country, you would not have to live it 24/7.  You would be more interested in WHO gets your dogs and what kind of home they have.  You would make just as much money, in my opinion because you would sell a lot more dogs with HONEY than VINEGAR.
You are in business and trying to sell dogs on this site--that's why your name is listed--I think with your angry posts and attacking your customer it would have   been better to keep YOUR name a secret!!!  Better for your business anyway!  Emily is not my champion--you are so angry--she is  a person letting other consumers know that you as a business man you  are not a nice man!!  Nothing wrong with that if it's true and you seem to be admitting that it is.  I don't mention AKC or CHAMPION lines...read my posts again. Li is the one with that knowledge and letting people know the facts is a good thing, except for YOUR business!!  I never said you HAD to call them undersized, either--read my posts SSLLOOWWLLYY, Mr. Dane.  I said that is what they ARE--if you called them that, you wouldn't make your big bucks, would you?  That's not cutesy?  SO, Mr. Dane--you are a businessman and us consumers have questions.    What is your genetic guarantee, why do the dogs wear doll clothes (and please don't insult our intelligence by saying they LOVE IT), and if we purchase a "TEACUP" from you and it grows to be "TOY", or a "MINIATURE" or whatever your cutesy name for the next size is, do we get a refund on the difference?  Those are questions that I, as a consumer have a right to ask you--YOU are the businessman!!!!  You don't like Li and I telling your potential customers that they have a RIGHT to ask you those questions because if you can get away without answering them you are MUCH better off!!  So how about trying not to make this a persoanl battle and just TRY to be professional and answer our questions?

My last post was pretty much to Mr. Dane--but please read his post that begins "It's easy to hide behind a web name"--that post should pretty much sum up for everybody what Li and I have been trying to say----stay OFF LINE and get your puppies word of mouth or through a breeder that meets with you and wants your puppy picked up in person so that he KNOWS your giving that dog a good home--regardless of your finances!!  He speaks volumes for the points that Li and I have been making!!!!

Mr. Dane, I think you might have me confused with someone else, which in fact proves that you have been rude to more than one customer. I called you about 3 weeks ago and I asked you for your advice on how I could be ASSURED the puppy, Jodie, which I remember being well over $5000. You then told me that she had already been sold so I asked if you had any other litters that would have anything just as small. At think point you snapped at me very rudely and I told you that I would take my business elsewhere. I am not going to sit on the internet and talk of my financial situation but I assure you, Mr. Dane, that I am not hurting. I hope you just keep talking, as it is driving your future customers away one by one. My advice to you is to get some class and improve your business etiquette.

Li---Do you find it as comical as I do that Mr. Dane says we are "sour grapes" on small dogs.  The man doesn't GET IT!!  It's exactly the opposite--I have never owned anything but small dogs!!  A 9# yorkie for 15 years, a 3# yorkie for 15 years and I now have a 4# yorkie that is 7 months old.  Maybe the problem is that he isn't reading ALL the posts..that's why he can't answer questions.  I also never said anything about a lifetime health guarantee--I said GENETIC guarantee.  Oh well......it keeps the focus off of his not being able to answer our questions.

OK, you avoided every question I asked you to answer and turned this into a attack.

You own 1 Yorkie, I own many, many yorkies and several kennels. I run a $12 Million dollar dog breeding business and all you run is your mouth. Who is the Yorkie expert?

Emily, she did ask about Jody and wanted to know what pups I would have in the month of June, this being almost 3 months away, I then told her those pups are not even born yet, she then said OK, forget it I'll go somewhere else and that was the end of the phone call.

The person you are saying is dissatified with Yorkiepup.com on your web search is one lady named Julie from Austin, her web name is "Sue" look at the 3 posts, they are all from the same person. But that is old news, she is now a happy Yorkiepup.com customer.

This is typical of your style of attack, we place hundreds and hundreds of pups yearly and as with any business from cars to computers, you are always going to get some not so happy customers when you deal with the public, we try very hard to make a buying customer happy. You also forgot to mentioned the hundreds and hundreds of happy people out there from our reference pages, so typical of you.

You people are very funny, I'm the only breeder willing to talk to any of you and you all go berserk. I have Yorkie pups listed for $450 and up, all you see is the big money pups and stick on that. You want the conversation on your own terms, you want people to only hear your rants, guarantee, money, business, yada, yada, yada. This will never get anywhere, so I will not write back. Call it your little victory, but you will now only be TYPING IN BIG LETTERS to yourself.

It is all about the money no madder what you say or think, NO ONE is giving away Yorkies no matter what size they are! Look at the number of messages on this board of people wanting Yorkie pups!

All my pup buyers are over 18 years of age and considered adults, you or I have no right to screen anyone if they want a Yorkie pup, its America they can have one if they can afford it. Who am I to tell them what they can or can't buy?

Thanks for being civil;
Jeff Dane

I bought a puppy from Jeff Dane and found him very easy to work with and very willing to answer any questions I had - before and after I bought "Ashley." My son-in-law bought "Rugby" from Jeff and was very impressed by his setup; so much so that my husband flew to Texas to pick up Ashley. I would suggest that you go and see what you are talking about before you pass judgement. It's always easy to make judgements, but not so easy to "eat crow" when one finds out one is wrong. If you really have a gripe why not speak face-to-face like civilized people - or at least give your name and phone number so you can be reached privately. I'm sure I will never see this on your website, but if you would like to speak to me or my daughter about our experiences and observations of Jeff and his operations feel free to post your number and we can talk.

I will say AMEN to Jeff Dane.  I am going to write one time on what seems to be the Li/gh private line.  It is really unfortunate that people who have read the volumes of personal opinions put up here by Li and gh have accepted those opinions as proven truths.  These two have even said that they are only "avid fanciers" of yorkies with no other credential on which to base their condemnation of on-line breeders. I will also say to them that if they would take their typing fingers off their keyboards long enough to let their minds work, they could read the answers to all the questions they ask of Jeff on his website at yorkiepup.com.  I have known Jeff for over a year and I researched breeders both on line and locally for more than a year before I found Jeff.  We have had at least one yorkie in our home for the last 15 years.  For my money, there is no one who knows the breed or the business better.  Yorkiepup.com is a tremendous website and Jeff has never been unavailable to answer questions.

I say to readers of this web site.  Do your own research.  You have no idea who these "experts" are.  After my wife and I did our research we chose Jeff.  In the last year we have bought six WONDERFUL and HEALTHY yorkies from Yorkiepup.com and number seven is coming next weekend. Our biggest is 5 pounds and our smallest is under 2 pounds.  None of these dogs are related to each other and our veterinarian of over 15 years has thoroughly examined each one.  She has high praise for the healthy condition of these dogs and each one is a gem.
Thanks Jeff.  We love them!!!!

I have a wonderful yorkie named REAGAN from Jeff Dane @ Yorkiepup.com.  Always had my questions answered thoroughly and directly.
Joan of Arc was a little tipsy... so it appears these 2 are Too? (Li and GH)I called random buyers of Yorkiepup before we made our final choice; I e-mailed these people directly, spoke freely and candidly; made our purchase and have been incredibly in love with our vibrant healthy and high energy Reagan eever since. She gives us love, kisses, and attention. She is cooler than cool.  On to the other business at hand;Jeff Dane answered every question, took every phone call prior to sale and after sale to this day which is over 1 year later. He has called and asked about our baby regularly; we've sent pictures and we've called to see how the kids on the farm are doin? Jeff is knowledgable, dedicated, and interested; I MOST APPRECIATED HIS HONESTY!!!!

Mr. Dane, Contacting some of your  customers was a wise idea!!  They are obviously some of your satisfied customers.  As of last evening, "Sue" was NOT a satisfied customer!!!!  You must have her confused with someone else, also.  YOU are the businessman.  The customer has questions, you are responsible for answering  them!!  You have not done so--I know why.  I only hope the many people who read these posts will also understand what we have been trying to get across all along.  If you contact a breeder on-line, or anywhere else that will NOT answer your questions--do NOT buy from that breeder.  And if he is breeding undersized yorkies on purpose, it is at the expense of the dogs--to fatten his wallet.  I am not a bit surprised that other breeders have not come on here--they would also have to answer questions that they are better off not answering!!  At least better off for their businesses.  I think YOUR business would have been better off if you had not come on--you are a very angry man!!

This has never been an attack on YOU---you threw the first punch.  Yorkies under 4 # are undersized!!  You have to work very hard to produce undersized yorkies, by your own admission.  That is because they are not supposed to be that size!!  You know that, Mr. Dane--but your livelihood, I assume comes from the sale of these puppies so you count on people not being aware!!  If you offered a lifetime genetic guarantee, at the very  least, I would give you some credit for at least trying to care about your puppies!  But you will sell to anyone with the $$ anywhere in the country these puppies that can have problems later on and then you are GONE!!  I'm sorry you made this a personal attack.  I don't have to answer your questions--I am not buying a puppy from you, and never would.  You are supposed to be trying to sell puppies to the people on this site!!!  That is obvious by all the advertising you have done.  So why don't you tell them your genetic guarantee and why you place puppies on soda cans--they have a right to know.  I am glad you have loyal customers that will come to your defense when you call them.  Good luck in your business, Mr. Dane.  I hope not too many puppies have to suffer.  I still hope "Sue" will come on here and post.  She DID visit your facility and I hope she'll come on and report her findings.  She is someone that you did NOT call to help your advertising and most certainly wouldn't!!
Larry and concreteplacer--I'm glad your puppies are healthy--I hope that in the years ahead you don't wish you had a decent genetic guarantee and then look for Mr. Dane.  Your personal attacks are clever--the tipsy one was especially cute--I can see why you all get along so well.  But you know, his business looks bad enough right now--he could do without the personal attacks from his customers to help that image along!  I wish only the best for your puppies.....BUYERS BEWARE

I have bought 3 yorkies from Jeff @ Yorkiepup.com in the last 4 years. I don't know where my life would be without my little babies. Jeff was always here for me when I had questions. Even on Christmas day with my first yorkie 4 years ago. He has been friendly, helpful and I could always contact him even when I could not talk to my vet.
Thank you Jeff

To start with I have a (teacup) yorkie she is 2 1/2 lbs and extremely healthy!!!  Using the term teacup is nothing more than a descriptive term for her size.  I do not claim she is a registered teacup!!!  I have read all the posts and it seems to me that if you do not agree with the so called yorkie experts on here then you must be wrong.  I think buying and owning a yorkie is an individual thing, no two yorkies are going to be the same regardless of their size.  I have yorkies from 2 to 7 lbs.  All are very healthy.  Some on here would have you believe otherwise!  I also know Jeff Dane and have purchased a puppy from him.  I have also been to his home on numerous occasions to check out his kennel and his caring of these puppies.  How many of you have checked him out personally?  His dogs are not stacked in his garage as some would have you believe, they are very well taken care of.  He does not breed all these dogs himself he states that he works with MANY breeders.  As for the clothes these babies are wearing --- give me a break, how is that a bad thing.  My baby wears clothes and she thinks she is beautiful when she is dressed up. I think you will find thousands of people who dress their babies.  I can not believe putting an adorable dress on a baby would be a bad thing! This all seems so trivial, people come to this site asking for teacup yorkies or tiny yorkies or all the terms one might use to describe a tiny baby puppy and then they are bombarded with harsh comments about other people because they are not following the protocol that some people have deemed the only right way! I think this is America and you have the right to post what you think would be right for you (not neccessarily right for everyone) but you do not have the right to degrade anyone else or their business, especially when you have no first hand knowledge of these people.  Instead of just stating your feelings on what you think is right you start to pat each other on the back as long as they are posting the things you want them to.  There are those who think that it is their way or no way and that is where I think the trouble begins.  Pup buyers need to do their own homework and what they pay or who they buy from is their own business and needs no ones approval.  If you have a child and he or she does not turn out to be what you wanted or what you expected do you want a refund, do you want a guarantee that they will turn out just the way you had invisioned???  You state that these babies are not possessions, I agree ----  so doesn't that mean we are going to love them even if they are not as perfect as we originally thought?  I just find it amazing the things you find to be troublesome to you ------- dresses on babies, credit cards, paypal, shipping, bad descriptive terms, internet advertising, this is all so trivial.  The most important thing is that we all have the right to make our own choices and do what we think is best for us.  This is one of the problems today, we spend so much time badmouthing others because they do not conform to our beliefs or standards that we have set!  Wouldn't it all be great if just one or two people had the perfect answer for all of us, it would certainly make life easier.  Unfortuantely that is not reality, We have to learn to be responsible for the decisions we make and quit blaming everyone else.....This is America and we the public have the choice to buy the type of puppy that fits into our lifestyle but we also have to purchase this puppy knowing that we are going to love it unconditionally and a piece of paper or a lifetime guarantee (which basically comes with nothing) is not going to change how we feel about this baby.  Do your homework and vist the kennel if possible, talk to the breeder and then make your own decision.  Do not make judgements about someone you know nothing about because you are listening to someone who happens to have different beliefs.  No one who sells puppies can give you 100% guaranteed information on exactly what size your puppy will be or how they will grow up this is real life and there are no guarantees!!!  The only thing that is a gurantee is that whatever yorkie you purchase will give you unconditional love and that cannot be said for most people!

I just took two aspirin after reading over the unbelievable comments tossed about by some here.  However, be that as it may, I felt compelled to state that I am a completely satisfied and happy customer of Jeff Dane.  I have two very, very small (teacup SIZE) yorkies from him that are awesome pups.  They are both almost 6 months old, one is 2.5 lbs, and the other is 1.5 lbs.  My main decision criteria for selecting Jeff was due to HIS questions about my knowledge as a good yorkie owner -- that shows he won't sell to 'anyone' (thank goodness) thereby disputing tons of comments here on this board.  Jeff was very concerned that I completely understood the ramifications to having a very tiny puppy which I did/do.  I've had yorkies all my life most living to 16 y/o's which attests to the care I give them.
Yorkies are not for 'everyone'.  Small sized yorkies require very special care, knowledge and consideration.  Jeff has been involved with yorkies for many, many years and I tested him as thoroughly as he tested me.  He has made repeated phone calls and continues, to this day, follow up with emails inquiring about these two great pups.  He does NOT have to do that if he were the type of individiual several of you on this board suggested he is.
I am more than happy to supply a reference at anytime
