I think the dodo has been here since creation.  
   The fact that it doesn't fly may be similar to that of praying mantis's.  They have the built-in genetic capability to change from a winged insect to an unwinged insect, depending on their environment.  
   Various examples of this ability to change genetically, without the gain of information, may be found in the CREATION magazine.  This magazine is available in internet(electronic) form at www.answersingenesis.org

the dodo first lived on the island of Mauritus in the Pacific ocean!!!!!!!!!!

The Dodo bird was first sighted around 1600,and became extinct officially in 1681
