I need to know how long a Chihuahua is pregnant for & any other information I might need for this process.

Hi! Pregnancy in dogs lasts from 58-66 days but since Chihuahuas are so small you should probably go with the minimum. I see by the date you sent this in that if your dog is pregnant she should be ready to have her puppies. If you get this before she has pups I would suggest you contact your vet immediately. Chihuahuas have complicated labors and if you don't have someone experienced with you during her whelping time it could result in the death of all of the pups. Good luck! Tanisha

Congratulations on the pregnancy!!Puppies are a wonderful thing but you should be ready and willing to spend the money and time on the needs of these newborns and there mother.There are alot or risks and dangers in a mother giving pregnancy for her first time.You should always have a vet on call.There is this website that i know will help you through any troubles you are having and right through the pregnancy.RHONDAS CHIHUAHUA BREEDING just type that into the search and go.It shows you pictures and everything you would need to know about any of your dogs pregnancy questions.bye

My Chihuahua had her first male friend on April 21, 04.  She's now pregnant when do you think she will deliver her puppies?  I've researched and I found that they will deliver in 62-63 days. Also that they could deliver earlier being thay are a very small breed.
Any information you could give me I would really appreciate it.

Chihuahua's carry usally about 55-59 days. They're real small and the Pups don't need as long to develope. Always make sure you take at least a week where you watch her close. check her Temperature and check if she is eating. Females refuse food before Labors. Sign of Labor are nesting about a day or two before. The nipples leak. The female is nerves. Good luck with you're Pups. I have a Litter due in about 2 weeks.
So I feel for you. It's lot of work but sure worth it.

Hey there...I have a female Chihuahua is past her due date.  She was due last wednesday and it is now Sunday.  I am not sure she is even pregnant anymore.  It seems like one minute she is acting like she isn't and in the next minute she is acting like she is going to pop.   They did say that I should bring her to the vet tomorrow but I thought maybe someone might have some ideas so I thought I would write.  Thank you

If you are considering breeding your chihuahua make sure to pick a healthy mate with a good blood line, She should whelp anywhere from 58 - 65 days but if this her first litter and carries for more than 62 days you should have her checked by your vet.

I have a chihuahua that just went in to heat. I also have an Italian Greyhound male. I am certain they have mated . I am concerned about her having puppies. They are somewhat close in size but still he is larger. This was a rescue dog so we had no clue on age, only that she was very young. I have little experience with whelping.

My chihuahua, Tinkerbell, is pregnant and she's only been in heat once. We don't know who the dad is but we have a German Shepard. I HOPE THAT'S NOT THE DAD!!! But she's getting really big and her stomach is tight, do you think she is going to have them soon? And do I need to bring her to the vet?

I have a female reindeer and she is pregnant by an apple head. this is her first litter from this type of male. her first was a longhair.she looks so small and helpless should I be worried about the size of the babies head during delivery... Should I call A vet?Help!! she is about 35 days pregnant..

cheryl,theres nothing wrong with your chihuahua.Shes a pregnant mother,and shes weighted down with puppies.You would be tired too.No need to worry,but if you feel something is still wrong,take her to the vet immediantly,just in case.


jmel2661,its time to start them on soft puppy food.Try mixing some dry puppy food with water or puppy milk,and heat up till its slightly warm,like there mothers milk.Don't put it on the floor,for at this age,everythings a play thing and they are more likely to play in it than eat it.Hold it a little under their chin,and then allow them to lap or eat some of it.Do not be alarmed if they do not eat it immediantly,just try again after a few minutes.

about your chihuahua getting pregnant by a different breed: its ok my chihuahua is a mix with poodle and the puppies are beautiful: i even get requests for more and people pay for them; so an answer to your question your dog will be fine just make sure u keep doc appointments to make sure if a natural birth is ok depending on the size of the pups

I found my chihuahua with our neighboring male chihuahua on May 16, 2005 and it has been about 20 days, I don't really know if she is pregnant. How can I tell? Her tummy is a little bigger, but not noticeable, she is acting a little calmer and more mellow. I am really scared if she is pregnant because the breeders we had got her from said it would be very dangerous if we were to breed her, since she was the runt of 8 puppies. I don't know what to do...

I have a mixed dog. it is part chihuahua & part of a winnie dog. it has been pregnant for a while & i'mgetting scared that she might die if she has puppies. i'mthinking about taking her to the vet, but i can only think of the worst. what should i do? please help me!

MY DOG GOT PREGNANT JUNE 6 OR 7, THE IS HER THIRD LITTER, THE FIRST SHE HAD SIX VERY HEALTHY PUPS, THE SECOND WE LOST ONE, SHE IS A VERY GOOD MOM, SHE IS BLACK AND WHITE, I ALSO HAVE A SILVER FEMALE.I HATE TO SEE THE PUPS LEAVE THEY ARE SO CUTE.

my dog just had puppies today. by c section because she had some problems anyways she had 6 puppies .. 4 girls 2 boys they are doing good so far but very scary day for all

You can get them started on soft food at 6 weeks of age. Feeding them bread and warm milk is good to, just be sure to know how the pups react to the milk.

When your dog is ready to give birth she will be rather restless and start digging a lot. She will possibly be panting and her ears will be hot. Make sure you have enough towels or newspaper to line the bed for the pups to be born in. You're going to have to help her break the sack the pups are in by ripping it with your finger nail near the pups nose and make sure that when she bites off the cord, she bites about 1 1/2 inches away from the pups stomach or you even cut it (better if dog does it.be careful.will be messy so throw away towels and junk)I not really that old and had some experience with my dog and was late last year to school that day. It was awsome! :)))

I think my chihuahua is pregnant, but there is a problem, she is very old. I'm not exactly sure about her age because we just found her on the side of the road.  She has only 2 teeth left and a white face, so I know she is very old.  I didn't think to watch her close while she was around another chihuahua because with her age I wasn't to worried.  Unfortunately, she is showing signs of pregnancy, enlarged nipples, weight gain, and laziness. I can feel and see that her tummy area has enlarged. She is probabely 6 weeks into it. I am very worried because of her age she might have complications and I do not want to lose her.  Is this pregnancy even possible??

So you think that Chihuahua's will have there babys in 2 months. My chihuahua is having babys and she got pregnant on October. And she should have then in December sometime.

My friend has a chihuahua and she is pregnant. I will be getting one of the puppies and also helping out with the birth. She was bred on Jan. 15 - the 22nd. They tied more towards the end of there week together. Now the question...She had a small amount of blood and other goo come out of her vulva and her temp dropped to 99.1, isn't too early for her to labor? This is her first litter and we did get an ultra sound done when she was around 32 days and the doc said there are for sure 3 possible 4 puppies. The first sac in the horn looked like it was two puppies because when we compared it to the other sacs it was twice the size. If she does go into labor, is it safe enough knowing the gestation time? Every website I go to seems to have their own opinion on the time frame. She can be 49 to 56 days pregnant as of today 3-12-06. Until tomorrow when we will call a vet, any help would be great.

I think my chihuahua is pregnant, but not to sure.  Her nipples are pink and a little fat.  She is not eating much and she is very sleepy, I think she is 27 days now.  Can you tell me if she is or not.  I don't see her tommy is growing larger.

the time is 60 days, starting from the time of the consumtion. However, the consumtion tme can be from 24hrs. to 48hrs. So the pregnancy time is from 61 to 62 days, rarely would take 63 days.

well i have a question, I'm  going to breed my dog for the first time, i was noticing at the place where i got her from that if the puppies didn't't want milk then they could have this apple cider looking stuff, i was wondering what that stuff was and if i need it how do i get it?

cheryl-pups... No nothing is wrong with your dog being lazy. Since she is fat "er" she isnt used to carry around all that extra weight...so she likes to lay around alot. Besides her little one(s) are using up all of her energy!!!

I have a chihuahua too and am trying to find out if she's pregnant as well it's only been seven days since she got hooked up but she's been acting so much different and i don't know if it's the heat cycle or pregnancy... if you can tell me anything about your experiences please let me know

If your Chihuahua is pregnant it will give birth in 55 or 59 days, but  you should take your chihuahua to your vet like 2 to 3 days before it gives birth. Also DO NOT get your eyes off your chihuahua after it gives birth, and you have to watch it for aleast 2 to 3 weeks!!

Well this may not seem believable, but my chihuahua just had her puppies today! 3 out of the 4 made it because it was stuck for to long. It came out back feet first and then it got to the head and it got stuck for a while. The mother cut the ambilicle cord before it could get its head out to breathe. I would recomend watching out for things like this.

Hi, my chihuahau is 9 mos old and is 4.5 lbs.  She got pregnant from a French Bulldog.  Is this safe for her to have puppies?  I'm concerned because she is so small.  Thank you

I have a miniture chihuahua and she connected on dec 14-2006 when will she be due? Her temprature was 98 this morning but this evening it was 100.2 but she got real nervice cause I was gonna take her temp agian in the mid day it was99.5 is she gonna have her babies soon also she'll only eat if we hand feed her

help i have a chihuahua who is 1 1/2 yr old i think she might be pregnant how do i know? she was not surpose to she has her soft spot is to big never closed up so it makes her have siezurs the vet said its not the best to let her mate but it happen my boy let the bigger male out i dont want to lose her i will die without her so if she is what can i do to help her be relaxed

Well i have a 3yr old chihuahua and she weights about 3lb7oz she is pregnant buy a chihuahua that is about 4lb he is a lil over a year well they got stuck for the first time on March 28. So my question is could she have problems cause he is a lil bigger then her. and is there anything i need to know before she gos in to labor. I am just so scared that there will be a problem and I will not no what to do.

hi, my chuihuahua has had one heat and soon due into her second, how do you no no when she is ready to breed and if she will take to a male chui can you tell me any info as ive never done this before, will breeding her calm her down. many thanks lee.

Chihuahuas are very small breeds, they carry there pups for about 59-66 days. If your dog has problems during pregnancy consult a vet. My dog Lola is pregnant and should have her pups any day now, i'vbeen checking her temp and right now its at 99.  At first her temp was at 102, and i also check her belly and i see her pups move and kick around.

WE JUST GOT A NEW PUPPY FROM SOMEONE WHO WAS GETING RID OF HER..AND WE ALREADY HAVE A DANTY TEACUP WHOS 2 YEARS OLD..WELL ANYWAYS IM NOT SURE WHAT KIND SHE IS SHE IS VERY FAT ?
