I agree with Jimmy Brown. I don't care how much money a person makes, that doesn't give them the right to obtain a name even remotely close to that of God's. How is he solving problems by being who he is? I definitely don't see him over in Africa supporting our black people who are dying of AIDS or is he even promoting men to stay outta jail, go to college, and especially respect women by saying "I got 99 Problems but a B&%$# ain't one". I mean come on people. Don't get me wrong....i will bump his cd but he hasn't deserved the right to be called Young Hova....no man of sin does. Oh yeah....before im out....everyone needs to vote cuz if Bush is re-elected there will definitely be a new world era. It was written.

jay-z has an immense lyrical talent which he has often been criticized for not using (i.e., making commercial joints like "big pimpin'") but as he says on the black album I dumb down for my audience And double my dollars They criticize me for it Yet they all yell "Holla" If skills sold Truth be told I'd probably be Lyricly Talib Kweli Truthfully that said it pretty well. he played all of us for the ultimate american value, cash. and god bless him for playing this game from the bottom up and winning- i hope he takes his money to some island in the pacific somewhere and never has to see another paparazzi, fan, or fake-a** businessman trying to make money off him. may his heart be free.

Forget all of you bible thumping fools. some people believe any and everything written in some ancient book by some politically and personally driven people who were just as you are...one thought shy of being a fanatic. you bible thumpers are on the same as any other cult. Just because you believe in some words that have been written and translated and interpreted millions of different ways by millions of different people, doesn't mean that you are right or that you have the authority to decide whether or not someone has the right to use a name/alias, no matter what the name is. HOVA earned the right to use whatever name he wishes because he was born a freely speaking and thinking and equal human just as we all are here in America. Enough said children.

as god becomes increasingly minute in the world that is now in the era of great technology the name will become more and more butchered. Look at religion as it is now and how 'sacrilegious acts' such as divorce have become so prominent specially within the american culture. No rap will ever promote the respect of women or send young men to college, if it did then it wouldn't be rap. Rap is basically cut and dry, the most recent form of music to express life in the ghettos for the most part. Jay-z has amazing skill with words and has moved from that lower-middle class poverty stricken society in spite of his skill. If you managed to accomplish even half of what Jay-Z managed to then I'd have no problem with any alias you created for yourself. A lot of religion buffs and old fashioned people take rap slang so far out of context to make it appear offensive to them while completely missing the point or story the song contains just to grab that specific section of slang and concentrate on how OFFENSIVE it is to them.

Well, this is the first real discussion that I've come across in my quest to find out what the hell HOVA means or stand for. Quite interesting it's religiously rooted as popularly accepted... Initially I thought it was an acronym. I think that it is fine for Jay-Z to proclaim himself as "Hova" because it is only a reference to something he acknowledges as something greater than himself. Think about how some people NAME their kids Jose. But I digress. If Jay-Z is wrong to alias himself as a religious figure, so is the catholic church (Bulls*** to the 8.9 x 10^79) and the Fckng "Pope". Even though JZ has slang some snowflakes, he hasn't groped little boys,..... period. I can't say much about the Islam comment, but I don't know about the "G" reference to God instead of Gangster. I'd like to believe the positive though. I'm not holding my breath. Just my gin & tonic 2 cents. Feel free to rip this apart. =-]

I have recently been exposed to the truth about hip hop which is disturbing. I've done some research for myself...Yes, Jimmy Brown and Takuyaah are right. Before you start listening, buying and saying what these hip hop artists say, KNOW what it means! Jiggapimp-you need help...you are glorifying JZ as if he is already God-then you name yourself after him, what a follower! So, you're calling yourself god too huh? Are you even Muslim? (probably not) Now for those that have the "Black" album when you get the chance and if you know how to, play his CD backwards. The point I'm trying to get to is your mind unconsciously remembers music in a way that is unthinkable. (That's why we remember songs that we don't even like.) There are subliminal messages hidden been a lot of tracks that influence the mind. That's why JZ can easily have everybody call him "HOVA". If your didn't get it, go to exministries.com

Jay Z used to be one of my favorites in the rap biz until he started to think too much of himself. He claims he's A-1 but he's no superbeing of all greatness, he's just a human- nothing more, if anything he's less than to even THINK ABOUT being as high as the almighty Jesus and/or God.As a person he's accomplished alot especially from his odds, but many of people have done that and other will come to continue to excel past his record but they haven't honored themselves with such a title. That's disrespectful and evil.I'm not hatin, Im just educatin'. All you Jay Z Ride or Die fans are probably heated but yall shouldn't get mad at what I'm sayin cause it's strictly the truth and hardcore facts. Realize it and recognize it. Don't get caught up in his notions cause God says their is no other God. Yall fans believin that he is everything and that's why he is actin like he is; because yall accept it and allow it. All yall that are saying Jay Z never said anything disrespectful inregards to God obviously do not listen to the lyrics of his songs. In many of them he clearly says ill things, for example in 99 Problems he says "...middle finger to the Lord..." if thats not clear enough listen closely to some of his other songs. I have never heard of the paster people on here are talkin about or checked out the website, but I happened to be a big JZ fan so I followed him closely over the years only to find out disturbing things which have totally turned me off of him. And yes many Artists, not just rappers and hip hop artist, sell their souls to Lucifer for fame, this has been known for years, where have yall been? If the devil came out as himself and asked people to accept him many would say no because they know its the devil, so he disguises himself in the forms of musicians, entertainers, and people we look up to so that we embrace him wthout knowing it. PEOPLE PLEASE DO NOT BE IGNORANT, THE DEVIL TAKES MANY FORMS. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR VIEWS BECAUSE SOMETHING YOU READ, KEEP DOING YA THING, BUT ATLEAST NOW YOU CANT SAY YOU DID NOT KNOW!!!

Well first things first, It's Blasphemy to compare yourself to God. He made you not the other way around.. You don't summon Him to be..He makes us become what we are. It's blasphemous to be calling yourself GOD.. But it's encouraged for example to have Godly traits like patience..but knowing that HE is the one Most Patient..and that He's Most Superior... But anyways we don't have a right to be imposing opinions to others even though it doesn't agree with our own. An opinion is still and opinion and mine is that we shouldnt diss others just coz its not the same as our own. Then again its my opinion. But Forreal, I dont lose anything from anyone who wants to diss me..

Hova calles himself hova because of two reasons. obviously youre a bunch of momma's boys , and arent allowed to listen to rap. If you listen to "hova mojo" and "my name is hov" you would know that its not only a religious reference as to him being the god of rap (i dont care who you are , when nas said hova was the CEO of hip hop , theres no claim otherwise), as well as a play on words , jehova jira can be mis-spelled or said wrong to sound like "jay-hova" . again a play on words. the real question is why does a gentleman names sean carter call himself jay z. my real name is jay z and i cant get anyone to call me anything but HOVA now , so it stuck.. now i introduce myself as "hova" and people just look at me funny... my people know who i am and what it means. ss-hova (south side god) youngstown , ohio (google it , then stfu)

look...all the time spent here talkin bout all this really is pointless because regardless of any of yall's opinion jay is gonna call himself what he wants. whether we like it or not non of us will ever actually meet him in person and have him give us the time of day to discuss why he calls himself hova. so really...if you all invested this much time in your own as you do his...maybe you all could possibly be where he is. but it just seems a lot easier these days to focus our lives around someone else's then to realize the lives of your own. must be more comfortable that way. focusing on someone who has everything you dream about then to focus on your own which has in comparison to his...virtually nothing.

Question: How do you "earn the name Jehovah?" Jehovah created everything in the universe. Heaven, earth, stars, animals, humans, etc. If you was up in those twin towers when they were burning, would you be calling on JayZ on the Almighty Creator Jehovah? Who do you pray to at night? JayZ? Who cares about you as a person? JayZ - I doubt it, you don't even exist to him. Do you have access to JayZ at any time to let him know what is bothering you? Jehovah created all humans on earth, so the created (JayZ) can not be greater than its creator (Jehovah)? Jehovah's name is being defamed, but the time will come when everyone will have to know that he is Jehovah and he alone is the most high over the earth.

Young Hova means Young JAY-HOVA, which is a wordplay with the name Jay-z and the name JEHOVAH, which means God. So in short Jay-Z is calling himself God, he even refers to himself as the God in some songs. I don't care if he just thinks he's the God of rap, this is blasphemy to call oneself Jehovah. Many people are following a very arrogant man (arrogant isn't a strong enough word) who would probably spit in the faces of you people who place him on such a pedestal. All he wants is your money, to disrespect people in his lyrics and to feel more and more untouchable. This is really sad. I am glad Jay-Z is a successful man but he needs to be saved and realize that money does not make the man and if it wasn't for his fame and money many people would care less about him. Skills are God-given not man-made. Now I don't know Jay-Z personally but I pray that he would see that he could be using his lyrical ability for the glory for the one true God. (Plus there are some christian rappers who could beat Jay-Z, Nas, and others out of the water.)

I don't necessarily think he is calling himself God. I think since he was made in the image of God and God is the creator of the earth and many things, he gave life etc. just like Jay Z has created things. He has used his imagination to create jobs.......better paying jobs for individuals, he has even gone so far as to create his own color. Think about that for a second. Now does Jay Z believe in God..Jesus Christ? I do not know; I just hope he does. Surely I hope he does not believe that he moves and breathes and has his being on his own....he is by far one of the smartest gentleman I have ever seen in my life. My boss name Sam absolutely loves him. This is how I started looking into his life accomplishments. If more people would use their imagination and step out on faith like we are commanded to do then yes the world will be a better place. As far as Africa and other suffering distressed countries are concerned.....it would take more than Jay's money to fix the problem.......we just need to keep praying for the change to take place.

Jay-Z considers himself the god of rap, so he refers to himself using an alternately spelled form of the word - J-Hova. In "H to the Izzo" he says, "call me J-Hova'causethe flow is religious," which supports this notion. He uses other forms too: Hova, Young Hova, etc., but they all mean the same idea. Jay-Z calling himself the "God of Rap" is kinda like James Brown calling himself the "Godfather of Soul". Right or wrong, he isn't breaking new ground. Incidentally, this is different from calling him the "King of New York," which is another interesting topic. That title applied to Biggie before his death and then led to the Nas-JayZ beef when both artists contended for it.

First of all it is J E H O V A H, not Jahovah, second it is God's personal name not the hebrew word for god (see Psalms 83:18). Finally it means "He who causes to become," meaning that God can make himself whatever is needed to fit the situation and solve any problem. Why JZ had the nerve to call himself that I'll never know?

How dare Jay-z call himself Hova? He is the God of nothing. There is one God. Who cares if he can spit a couple lame bars. Hip-Hop is the devil trying to bring this generation down. If we continue to listen to rap and Hip-Hop we will be no better off than Jay-Z. Next time you listen to the radio actually LISTEN to the things they say is that the kind of stuff you want in your mind and subconscious. Sex, drugs, violence its all in there. Tia. 99 problems is not about women. You should really listen to the song. There is no mention of a woman in the entire track. He talks about radio and critics in one verse, a female dog while getting pulled over by a cop in one verse, and a dude that talks a lot of trash in another verse. Hip-Hop is deeper than just beats.

You guys spend too much time trying to interpret some fools language. G'money is a straight up "n*****" with no education. Anyone who can't speak properly has serious issues. Who cares about his money and "bling"? For all you people out there who put folks like him on pedestals, look in the mirror and say to yourself "I'm a nobody. I add no value to this world. I will be nothing tomorrow and for the rest of my life." By the way... Muslims are the smut of the earth !!! Wow, arguing on whither someone has the right to a word that humans just made up. If you believe in god thats fine. You can't believe if he is powerful enough to be god, then to suggest he can be held in simplly a name is a sin to your god (as he technically condemns even churches, good ole "religous Right"). Language belongs to everybody. Argue about something real besides who has the right to a couple of letters strewn together.

He didn't call himself god other people did and he got rid of the Jehovah part and just kept the hova because he didn't want to be called god. He also gives god credit for his rhyming ability.
