My daughter has a 1990 Dodge Shadow that we have serviced, checked the radiator etc. but it is still overheating and not getting much heat.  Could this be the heater core?  Her uncle fixed the blower a year or so ago and it has never been the same!  She isn't loosing coolant on the ground and her windows are not fogging up.

Try to remove the thermostat, then run engine to check if still overheats. if its okay replace the thermostat. for the heater, the core might  needs to servicing it may have rusted and corroded parts.

IF YOU STILL HAVE A PROBLEM WITH GETTING HEAT YOU MAY HAVE AIR TRAPPED IN THE SYSTEM.EITHER NEAR OR IN THE HEATER CORE. ESPECIALY IF CORE IS HIGHER UP BEHIND ENGINE.LOOK FOR BUBBLES AT FILL OPENING WITH ENGINE HOT RUNNING ABOVE IDLE 1500R.P.M. SHOULD DO IT . ONCE THE AIR IS GONE FILL WITH 50/50 ANTIFREEZE.INSTALL CAP ADD SOME TO COOLANT OVERFLOW/RETURN TO AVOID SUCKING AIR IN.THIS SHOULD CURE YOUR HEAT PROBLEM.
IF THE CORE WASTHE PROBLEM YOU WILL HAVE AN OILY FILM ON YOUR WINDOWS FROM A LEAKY CORE,OR THE HOSES TO AND FROM WOULD BE COOL OR COLD SHOWING A PLUGGED CORE .

There is a small, creeping leak of coolant (anti freeze) throughout the vanes of the core and that is restricting the intake of air.  You would see this as a greasy and dusty deposit on the core, but unfortunately you must re-open its housing to inspect it.

try the coolant temperature sensor. unplug the clip going to the sensor with engine running if the fan comes on the sensor is no good. if the fan doesn't come on it's the fan motor

BECAUSE THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF THE RADIATOR IN LOWER THAN THE ENGINE BLOCK, AIR CAN BE TRAPPED IN THE THERMOSTAT CHAMBER SUCH THAT THE THERMOSTAT CANNOT OPEN FULLY.  THERE IS A SCREW ABOUT THE THERMOSTAT CHAMBER.  RELEASE THE SCREW AND LET THE AIR OUT AND SEE IF IT CAN FIX YOU PROBLEM

My girlfriends 1990 dodge shadow leaks a stream of anti-freeze out her exhaust pipe.
Is there anything I can do? or is it time for the crusher?
