My dachshund, in the past, had vomiting, diarrhea, bloody stools with mucous in them.  The vet. said he had CIBD and put him on Rx. food.  It cured his problem, but he has very hard stools now and them. His belly is big, firm and he gets uncomfortable a lot.  I found him eating sand and cat feces before all of this started.  I'm thinking he has an impaction of the bowel because of the hard stools which drop out intermittently.  The vet does not know why his stomach is so firm and why he is so uncomfortable.  I have a feeling the sand he ate a couple of years ago has caused this.  he has normal stools most of the time.

you might want to take him to get a second opinion.  i had a puppy about 4 mths old that had all the same symptoms and he had gotten into some rat poisons before he got to me.  we had him for a total of 2 1/2 days.
