Hi we have just adopted an airedale terrier from a resuce orginazation. The dog is
a male nuetered.
5 years old. The only problem is that he is an accomplished
food stealer and counter surfing. How do I break this dog of this habit?

I'm not sure that you can.  I think that they are notorius for counter surfing.  Did you research training books?
