The first soap opera did not appear on television at all. It was on the radio .

Indeed, the first sitcoms came in the form of radio Serials, unfortunately this doesnt answer your question, i'llhave a look around.

was Peyton Place (1964-1969).

the question pertained to the first televised soap opera.  Peyton Place does not answer the question because it came later than the first daytime soap opera.  If the answer is the Guiding Light..what year did it first appear on television and did it transition from radio.  I can't remember the answer, but I do know that the soap opera first appeared on radio then transitioned to television

First aired on October 2nd, 1946, Faraway Hills was the first TV soap opera, airing on the new DuMont network.

The first soap opera did not appear on TV it was on the radio as mentioned by another person.  And it was the Secret Storm.  My grandmother used to listen to it.

I don't know WHAT the first soap was, but it debuted on TV in 1946.

The first soap opera on television was broadcast during the summer of 1946 on WRGB, a General Electric Station in Schenectady, New York. Called WAR BRIDE, this 13-part series was the story of a returning GI and his new wife
