We have two Sun E3000 boxes running Solaris 8 and a Cisco Catalyst 3550 routing traffic to the Sun servers.  Both servers have fast ethernet cards that have two i.p. addresses associated with them.  So, the ifconfig output shows interfaces something like:

        hme0        123.456.789.1
        hme0:1     123.456.789.2

The two E3000s are in a Veritas cluster and the second i.p. on the interface is a floating i.p.  Traffic is routed to the boxes via a Cisco Catalyst 3550 router.  This router has time out values for i.p. addresses and associated mac addresses in its arp cache.  The interesting thing is that it resets the timeout value for the primary hme0 address (123.456.789.1 above) every time the address is used.  However, no matter how much the secondary i.p. is used, it never resets the timeout value, and therefore flushes the entry from its cache, with the result being that traffic meant for that i.p. does not get to the box.  We wind up having to take the interface down on the server and bring it back up in order for the timeout value to be reset on the router.  Is there anything that can be done to get the router to reset the timeout value for all i.p. addresses on the network interfaces of the E3000 servers?
     Thank you.
