I recently got my belly pierced(June) and I had to have surgery in Sept., I had to remove my belly ring, so since I had to remove it right before surgery, I thought it would be a good idea to switch from the ring to a curved barbell type, after surgery when I was able to replace the ring, I found when the nurse tried to put it in for me that the bottom hole was closed(it had been almost 3 months since my piercing was done.) now I think that I may have damaged the hole or something when it poked thru, now(4 months) I think to me that the amount of skin that was between the entry and exit hole is now smaller and it seems that, well it looks like the barbell is pushing thru. The question that I have for you is this: Do you think by the sound of it that I should either, put the original ring back in or take it out and have it repierced, I was reading your facts and it seems like my body is pushing it out. It took a very long time for me to get the nerve up to do it and I really want my belly pierced, what would you suggest?

Your body has been growing and it seems it is rejecting the piercing. The question seems to be a matter of looks. If there is enough skin to support your jewelry without putting too much pressure on your tissue and you find it to be visually pleasing i would say keep it. If you do not like the way it looks i would suggest letting the body take its course [ as long as your piercing is fully healed ] and letting the piercing heal with scar tissue. After the hole is completely healed go to a reputable piercing studio in your area.. and get it pierced again. As far as the pain factor goes figuring that you had to muster up a lot of courage i wouldnt worry about it in the second go round. This time they'll be piercing through scar tissure. If your still scared try some breathing excersises before the piercer pierces you. I have been studying the art of body piercing for over 3 years. My name is ashley. Hi! I know the original message to this was written in October '03, but I'm glad someone asked this question. I actually had to have surgery just last month as well and went through the same thing. The nurses removed my belly ring and the surgeon would not allow them to put it back. I was told by the woman who pierced my navel to begin with to go back to her in exactly a month and she would repierce it for me. So I have two more weeks to go! And like you... it took me forever to get the nerve to have it pierced and I had only had it done for two months when I had to have the surgery. It made me angry! But I'm very much up for having it redone. The pain doesn't last that long and it looks amazing afterward. Plus... the IV that you had during your surgery probably actually hurt more than a navel piercing does anyway! (At least that's what I compared my first navel piercing to.) To be, getting the navel pierced is nowhere near as bad as having a shot. (A shot in the arm goes through muscle, but the navel only goes through skin if done correctly so it shouldn't hurt as bad as having a shot in the arm.) But my advice for all of those who are under 16 and want their navels pierced, I would wait. If your body isn't done growing, this will be EXTREMELY dangerous for the piercing! Just be patient! But maybe it you were like me and your body hasn't grown in a few years (I stopped growing completely at age 11) it might be safe. Just talk to a professional piercer and see!

Hey ladies. I'm 17 and i've had mine for about a month and a half. I however had to get mine pierced on the bottom because my belly buttons like..half outtie haha its weird..anyways , for me mine really hurt and for you it could be different it all depends on where your nerves are and that's what the piercing guy told me too..i got it done with my friend and hers didnt hit a nerve so it didn't hurt at all..so there ya go. Also mine occasionally pusses and such but i just push it out and clean it up and it's all good..it bleeds every now and then too..only because we play a little ruff in gym class lol..but oh well. I'm pretty sure it's healed so in like an hour after i've cleaned my super duper new barbell imma switch it up. well i av had my belly button down 4 a bout 3 months now and recently it has been lose.i saw down on the cpmputer and was typing 2 my friends wen all of a sudden,i looked down 2 find my belly bar on the floor,i was screaming n quickly put it back in.i couldent find the top so i had 2 run 2 my m8s house 2 get i.im luky it never closed up.but every1 allways chek 2 c if its tight!!!

hey im 14 and had my belly pierced on the botton about 5 weeks ago. It's turned out GREAT !!! i neally chickend out when i got told i couldnt have my top done be coz i had it done b4 and the DOCTOR pierced it TOTALLY WORNG so he screwed it up but now its all godd i can change it and every thing. I got it done at the piercing shop in the city and they were EXCELLENT...i think i spelt that wrong :S any wayz g2g bye dis site is MAD

I have my belly Button Pierced.. And honestly it aint worth it.. I might have to take mine out because my bod y is rejevting it and is pushing it out.. which i will be left with a big purple scar...Honestly Dont get it Done

hi im 12 n ive got my belly pierced it just feels like a lil pinch and i was laffin cuz i was scared of it hurtin but i got my lip pierced 3 x ( 1 in middle and 1 on each side) and my ears 3x on ear :p and they get a plastik tube with the bar inside push tht thru ya belly and then they take tube out n the bar is left in btw duz ne1 no how u can chek if ya belly piercin has healed???

Well The Answer To This Previous Question....No It Doesnt Hurt..If The Piercers Numbs It....Then They Clamp It And Stick A Hollow Tube Through The Navel And Then They Put The Ring In..And U Have To Wait For 2-4 Months To Change The Ring...But Others May Have Different Answers...

Hiyall i got my belly pierced 2 days ago im so happy with it even though im walking around like a robot incase it gets ripped out !! But anyway if u hav any questions just leave them on here...the only bit that hurt is the clamp but it still hurt quite a bit thats jus me tho xxx

Ive got a major outy belly button (its so weird i didn't think they'd be able to pierce it!), but I went to local piercing place and they said it would be fine, So i went for it and I'm sooo pleased I did cos it looks great!
