Paper Mites & Cable Mites "Fictitious Pests".  It could be dust mites or animal mites, but there are no such things as paper mites and cable mites. Paper and Cable provide absolutely no sustenance for any type of mite. On the other hand, some mites, that live primarily off a host congregate in areas that provide heat. That would be around electrical appliances like a computer that is always left on. This could be where the urban myth has started

There is no such critter. Working with old paper can cause dust, paper, and ink particles to become dislodged, causing pinprick irritations that look a lot like flea bites.

There is no such thing as paper fleas, or paper mites.  The "bites" are skin irritation caused by old ink and dust particles.  I learned this info from a pest control web site
