Hello to all,

I'm rather old to be starting this, but as a person who has always been fascinated with electronics, but never the time to pursue it as a hobby, I have decided to take a crack at it, now that I am retired.

I have built a bunch of those LED flashers and such, but would like to get into something more interesting.

I am hoping to tap into the minds of some of you younger guys out there that seem to know electronics and computers like the back of your hand.

I was wondering if I should purchase an Eprom Burner and an Eprom eraser and a few Eprom's like 2716 and the 2732 to experiment with.

The problem is, I haven't a clue about the sort of things they can be used for. What I'd like to know is the following.

Can the EPROM'S be programmed to control individual circuits? (Not within the computer)

Can these EPROM'S only be used in the older computers? (I was given an old Zenith with an 8086/8088 processor).

Can you tell me about, or steer me to a site that has some interesting circuits using EPROM'S

Are the things you can do with them so limited, that it's not worth the expenditure for the Burner & eraser?

Thanks for taking the time.

Lyle
