Hey yall! I just wanted to let all you people know some of the answers to your questions....hopefully i can help! First of all, I'm 15, and i just recently decide that i want my tongue pierced. Of course like all of your answers, mine was no. I cant stand not getting the answer i wanted, so i did it myself. I wouldn't recommend this, but do what ever you have to do. If you do do it yourself, you do not have to worry about hitting nerves until about 1/2 way through your tongue. Then if it is not comfortable, move the needle out of that spot, and find one that is. This is a pretty safe way to not hit any nerves. I used a safety pin, i put it in alcohol, then Listerine. I washed my hands good with antibacterial soap, ate alot of ice, numbed my tongue with Orajel, grabbed it with a paper towel, and pushed it through. It hurts when you break the skin, but then it is easy, until the end, when you have to break the skin again. I had my belly button pierced, and that hurt more than my tongue. If you don't want your parents to see, go to the mall (hot topic) and get a tongue retainer (14 guage is the size you want...try to get the longest one you can, to allow room for swelling). Make sure it is one of the big needles, then when you get it all the way through, move the needle up and down, until it moves freely. Relax your tongue while it is out of your mouth, or you will rip your tongue. The needle is so long, and your tongue will go into shock, just relax. after you move the needle up and down, pull it out, and push the retainer in. you don't have to hurry, the hole isn't going to close as soon as you take the pin out! lol. the retainer will not seem like it is going to fit in the hole, but push it hard, and it will soon quickly pop right in. After you do this, put the ring/rubber band thing on the retainer, rinse your mouth with Listerine, and chomp some ice! Oh yeah, make sure to brush your teeth and use Listerine before you pierce it too! I don't have a high pain tolerance, and trust me, i swear to god, it you eat ice before and after, once you break through the surface, it doesn't hurt! You do have to be 18, and nobody else can take you but a parent or guardian, but i wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. The day after you do it will hurt the most, it kinda feels like you have strep throat, but thats it. Don't worry about kissing and all that, you can still do it. It is really rare to get an infection, unless you don't take proper care of it. For the parents who say no because of infections, depending on the care you give it, and how many piercings you get, the chances of you getting a minor tongue infection are as low as having a miscarriage in your lifetime. Its well worth it, and you wont regret it! Yall can email me if you have any questions, hopefully i can help. My email it Trisha070803@aol.com.... I also have AIM. My screen names for that are Trisha070803 and HandsFree0369. Love ya lots. Peace
