We have a Staffy x who has arthritis in her back legs and she is currently on Metacam everyday.  Our vet wants to put her on something that has pentosan polysulphate and glucosamine in it but hasn't really been able to explain it as fully as we wish.  Can anyone please give us some info on glycosaminoglycans and whether long term use could hurt our dog.

There is no long term study. Most animals with this problem are on the downward stride when they start having these problems.

I have a gorgeous staffy (Troy) but he does not have this problem. However he was in a horific car, hit and run and was permanatley blinded in both eyes,so keep your chin up and consult another vet.
