I have two, two-year old spayed females from the same litter.  One of them intermittently urinates (small amount) along the entire perimeter of my living and dining room.  Over the past year, she's caused a lot of damage to my carpet.  I've sealed the floor boards, replaced the pads, and steam cleaned the carpet.  We have 3 cats next door who are always outside of our windows looking in, so I think that may be part of the problem.  We just discovered that she has "crystals" in her urine.  The vet said that could be the reason for the urinating outside the box.  She is extremely possessive of me and my husband.  She plays, sleeps, and fights with her sister.  I've been keeping them in the lower level of my house until she completes the prescribed diet to clear up the crystals (2 months).  If this is not corrected, we'll have to put her to sleep, and I'm heartbroken.  Any advice?  Thanks.

First, usually if your cat has been put on a prescription diet for crystals, she should be on that for life.  Second, if the inappropriate urinating does not clear up after the 2 months, you may want to inquire about behavioural medications, such as Prozac.  There has been a lot of success with that.  It may help curb her  possesion of you as well.
