i have a female yorkie and she gave birth on June 5th of 2003. i am waiting for her to come into season again. my vet told me that she will come into season six months from the last time she came into season. but is now been past 6 months and she has not started bleeding yet. we have noticed her mounting and humping our 3 year old male dog but that is it. could someone help me by telling me when i should expect her to be ready to breed. thanks, lily

Most yorkies will come into season every 6 months, but some go every 9 months. Be sure she is 5 lbs or over if you are breeding her and be sure the male is her size or smaller. When she begins to bleed, the best time to conceive is between the 10th and 14th day after bleeding starts.

You cannot put a time frame on a dog at once. It varys from 4- 14 months between heats. The average is 6 mo. Her humping the male is a sign she is being dominant on him. My female does this to our males when they are annoying her. Don't worry about it. You can't do anything about her heat anyway so just wait. Tanisha

Your yorkie not bleeding yet may be something you might want to talk to a vet about. Some cases are serious, some not.

Hallo Lily,
I hope that your beautiful Yorkie will be fine and have many more great pups.
We have a purebred male a 1 and 1/2 years old. We are trying to find him a female to breed him once before we neuter him. We are located in Beverly hills, California.  Do you know of any body in the Los Angeles area who would have one?

I was wondering if anyone knew if it is okay to breed my yorkie.  She is 9 months and has come into season.  She is almost 4 pounds.

Every female yorkie is different.  However, I would strongly recommend waiting until her 2nd heat, after delivering pups, before you try breeding her again.  Breeding her to soon will be very tiring on her both physically and mentally and may lead to problems that could be avoided with a little more recovery time.
