With some breeds of dogs i have heard people say that a female dog is better for a male owner and a male dog is better for a female owner. Is this true with Danes or is this true at all??

This may be because males and females were meant to be together. I'm not sure what to think because you never know what the temperament will be like. I had two males of the same breed. One was very dominant and disobedient while the other is submissive and always willing to please. But still my favorite is my female. Of course people have their opinion and you may get a different answer form everybody you ask. You have to decide what you like. Tanisha

Hello, this is my first response to anything here. Im not a professional dog trainer or behavior specialist but i just though id comment on what id witnessed with dogs of certain genders. Males, usually ones who are intact, usually are more dominant naturally, and females, no matter whether they are altered or not are usually more submissive. I have always had better luck with female dogs than males, but i love male dogs more because of th wild side they bring to your life. All men i know prefer male dogs however, and get along with them very well, so i dont think there is truth behind that belief. However, the proof is in the pudding, so you never know what dog gender, breed, etc are best for you unless youve tried that already. :)

I honestly don't think there is a "better" dog out of a male and female. But when a female goes in heat, she does have a tendancy to bleed wich can cause a problem if she is on your floor or couch. Males sometimes get alittle excited, and tend to get aroused easily so they tend to want to hump things. But personality, they are both great dogs. I havent noticed any big difference between a male and a female. Keep in mind though, female Danes can have up to 12 puppies and your looking to spend about $1,000.00 on vets. I'm not a pro, Im just going by personal experience.
