i have had my nipples pierced for a year now and last week...

i have had my nipples pierced for a year now and last week one of my rings came out. as soon as i try to place it back in it would not let me so after a few trys i managed to put the ring in. now a few days later my left nipple has a throbing pain and swollen like it was when i first pierced them is this normal or could there be an infection.
