My 2 year old Chihuahua Hollyday has been losing so much weight! She's very small dog, according to the vet, 1.5 lbs would be about right for her tiny frame. She recently got checked for heart worms, done several blood tests and an x-ray. Her blood test came back with an early detected blood parasite (after getting a tick inside her ear from my former room mates dog, even though she gets her flee drop every month). This blood parasite tested a level 1.5 out of 6 about 3 weeks ago. She's been on antibiotics since. X-ray shows a slightly enlarged heart, but the doc said not to worry? She did have a little seizure once, a few months ago. Other than that, her appetite and behavior has been very normal and consistent (energetic, cuddly and her temperament is not affected whatsoever). She's always been healthy, even her respiratory system has been strong. However, she started losing a lot of weight 2 weeks before the antibiotics and was a measly 1 lbs. Then she started the antibiotics (now 3 weeks) and she has since gone all the way down to a terrifying 0.8 lbs! And she's still losing :_( She's really just skin and bones!? Is this just the effect of the antibiotics? If so, how long will it take before the weight loss stops and how long before she starts to gain again??? Though she started eating dry Alpo (loves it) and a bit of rice at night, the weight still keeps dropping. Right now there's really not much dog left. I can't feel any more fat and barely any muscle tissue. I'm terrified! If this is not because of the antibiotics, we haven't figured out what could possibly be wrong with her? And I know that if the weight keeps dropping she will just die before the vet finds out what else he can test her for... Any ideas? :_( PLEASE HELP!
