for my science fair im going to test whether or not dogs are colorblind, well specifically beagles. I'm going to give him the same toys except in different colors and the same with the doggy treats. If he likes them all differently he can see in color!

i'mgoing to test to see if dogs are colorblind by putting three different colors on the top of a jar then i'mgoing to train the dog to pick the one i trained him with and if he picks the right one then that means that dogs are not all the way blind. if he goes for the wrong color then that means that the dog is color blind. i'mgoing to use a red-heeler, a Rotweiler, and a mix of bulldog and Germain shepherd.

Dogs have a great sense of smell.
If you are training and testing with the same set of colored balls, your dog will learn how to recognize the correct ball by it's by taste and smell.
Maybe use two sets, one for training and one for the official testing.

Well Steph when I did my science fair project my ? was the same as yours. What I did was take a styrafoam ball and I painted it to look like an eye. Then I labled all the parts of the eye. Then i had a key in this little brochure. I added little dots to make it look like cells and the cells reprisented the colors dogs can see.

I trained my dog to tell the difference between blue and green (which, if you put in a black and white setting, are the same color). I rolled up a blue and a green piece of construction paper and I would say the color and she would five me the right color 99.9% of the time. If she got it right I gave her a treat. I would even switch the color's spots and she would still get it right.

One way to test them would be too show a dog a red circle before you feed it. Don't give the circle a particular smell everytime becuase dogs have an excellent sense of smell and will respond to that rather than the color of the object. After the dog remebers that the red circle means dinner then try showing him a different color. If the dog thinks that it means dinner even though it is a different color then they must be color blind.

Well to tell you the truth i dont think all dogs are colorblind. But i dont think there is any way to tell. Most of the things scientists tell you are just theories. Also anyone colorblind person or dog can tell the difference between bright and dull colors such as the difference between yellow and blue and may have a preference. But you know what...as long as you get an award or an A or whatever for your project who cares wheter it was a good project! LOL! :) peace out

Dogs are partially colorblind. Some colors they can see because they choose it right. I trained the dog to get uset to the color brown. I put a treat in it and it kept going to it. I then thought if a dog was not colorblind it would always go to the brown bowl. So i put the treat in the yellow hoping it would go to the brown but it wet to the yellow. My dog smells the treat more than looking at its color

It is not true that dogs are completely colorblind. While dogs do not have the same color vision as humans, they are able to tell yellow from blue. Like a human with red-green colorblindness, they are unable to tell the difference between red and green.

The way i would find out fi dogs were colorblind or not would be to take dog bones and out them on different colored papers and then tell my dog to go to the
red one and if she goes to a different color then you will know if they re colorblind or not.

I don't think my dog is color blind because i took 3 colors of flags 1 red 1 orange and 1 blue I showed him each one and told him the colors individually* Blue first, Orange second and Red third. I said the colors while putting them in front of his face and then did it again but told him to bark twice at the blue one 3times at the orange and once at the red. It work then I put them in front of him and said"Scratch the Blue and Red one" I was amazed that my dog wasn't color blind after all I have heard.

Dogs are not color blind. I have done a series of different experiments and have found out that dogs are not color blind. They don't see as well as humans. They can't tell the difference between red, yellow, and orange for instance and they have trouble distinguishing greens and greys but the certainly aren't color blind!

Dear Stacey,
What I would do is I would train a dog to choose one particular color out of about two or three. Also, the names of these colors such as green. For example, if I say green, the dog picks green. These colors have to look the same in greyscale. Then, I would train that dog to touch or pick whatever color I call out. Do this about 100 times and record the data. If the dog picked out the right color more than 50%, then dogs are not colorblind. (at least the one you tested isn't.
