Niki:

Certainly, many people your age have successfully reduced their weight.  The first thing is to consult your doctor to rule out endocrinological disorders.  For example, a sluggish thyroid can slow down your metabolism and lead to weight gain.

Assuming your endocrine glands are working OK, your next step might be to consult with a dietitian, who will analyze your diet and recommend specific changes.

Any effective diet will also include exercise.  You could work with a weight-loss specialist to tailor a specific plan for decreasing your caloric intake, improving overall nutrition, and exercising more in order to burn off excess fat.

Don't waste your time on "miracle diets"--
the very few that work at all generally don't last UNLESS accompanied by fundamental and permanent changes in nutrition and exercise.

i am 12 years old and 4'11 or 5 feet and i am 93 pounds...i feel that i am fat and need to lose weight...i tried starving myself and lost a total of 2 pounds in like 2 days...should i continue or eat a lot more healthily

Hi! I'm 12, have no endocrinological disorders, and I've tried EVERYTHING that I've been able to in order to loose weight, I weigh 260 lbs, and I can't figure out what to do! HELP!

well just exercise b/c i have the same problem i was 12 and wadi 200lbs and now I'm 13 and way 155 i would like to be at 115 so i have 40lbs and 2moths to go be for my 9th grade year stars so just exercise and eat right...and trust me it will pay off

just try eating only greens and ocassionly some sweets but only like 2 chocolate chip cookies and make sure that you r not eating tons of fast food and check the nutricion on the side of the food package it will really help maybe also you should excersise join a swim team it is the best excercise to lose wait

I'm 12 years old ((almost 13)) and I'm 102 pounds. I know this is not fat, but i have a lot of fat around my waist, and thighs..whenever i wear a bathing suit, my torso goes straight then curves outward and its mostly fat. How can I trim this off?

im 14 and i weigh about 60kg and i exercise heaps but the weight just wont come off.

Well u shouldn't think u are over weight because u weigh more then everyone u will grow at your own speed and sure u might not be comfortable with yourself but i bet u allot of people like u for who u are, and who cares if u don't look like the people on t.v I don't and I'm kinda over weight but allot of people still like me for who's inside!

Also drink lots of water and not alot of sugar, and try weighing yourself everyday to see if you need to exercise more or drink more water

I think you should just stop eating but really thats a bad thing to do, I would just eat everyday then chaek your body too see whats wrong and good.

Dear Niki,
If I were you I would try several workout videos. and eat things that are high in fiber. You also need to eat plenty of fruits and veggies. Also try some push-ups and crunches. You should walk / jog / run daily! I hope that you will get healthy!!!   :)

    I am 15 years old and Ive tryed to lese weight and its not working for me I do(situps, dietpills,eat right,run in place,play with my dog.)

the best thing to do is to eat well and do alot of exercies alot!!!
i did that i lost 12 pounds
i use to weight 145 and now i'm133
it is so cool and you feel better

If I was you I would try and exercise more or join some after school activites or go to your basement or in your bedroom and start doing some situps and some exercises.
Im 13 and I used to be 123 pounds, and I really wanted to be skinny like the popular girls and i said to my self if i want to be skinny I have to work. so every night i would do 20 situps before bed and 20 before school and it worked I lost 20 pounds in 2 weeks and now im about 100 pounds now and i feel great. you can start by joining in on more physical activity. and maybe reducing your caloric intake. put it this way; eat more,no exercise=weight gain.

eat the same,no caloric intake=same weight.

eat less, no exercise= lost of weight.

i know its weird but thats what i follow and i got it from this site.

well I'm also 11 so I can't say I know how you feel but I know that you definitely should not starve yourself.  Start by eating what you want just smaller portions.  Also,  exercise.  Do 10 ab workouts every night.  Good Luck!!!!!

I need help with that too. I am 12 and i weigh 160 too. ALWAYS eat breakfast. I recommend Special K. Don't eat between meals is a biggy. A snack here and there is okay but don't constantly eat.

I am around 94 pounds I am Twelve and I really feel embarrassed in swim suites and I feel fat.. I am generally older than girls in my classes... but I feel huge compared to them!. I really would like to loose the blubber on my stomach!!! and weigh a little less.. But I also do not want an Eating disorder... Any suggestions?... I already work out until I pass out and I eat very well!.. I just don't get it... Stress is a big factor in my life.. Because of school I'm in middle school.. so the work load is vast
so.. I am getting fatter and more oily skin and stuff... I don't get it in the summer I was skinny I was 70 pounds... it could be because the nasty, Disgusting, And horribly fatty food they serve..please, Please give me ideas!

Walk around your block every other day...Stick with fruits and veggies and stay away from Chips and soda! Do some sit ups every once and a while and what ever you do DON'T watch TV for more than 2 hours a day...TV is a BIG temptation to eating when your not even hungry! And your only truly hungry when your tummy grumbles! So keep all that in mind and just Believe in yourself!

you could eat healthy and go for a walk every day. I work out for about 15 minutes every day and I think I'm over weight  still. What we should be doing is stop having Junk food for a bed time snack and don't bring unhealthy things to school. Look at labels when you go shopping with your dad or mom, look at the trans fats because once you digest trans fat it sticks to the inside of your body like gum.

ok im 13 and im 165 lbs and what i do is like  go on the raw food diet all the celebs go on it any wayzz drink green tea cause that helps.try not to have snacks if you cant then have something healthy like an apple or fruit or something.it helps yo and e.mail me at louiseanna123@hotmail.com if it does not work.O ya and get plenty of exercise. ok bye bye

  Hey Niki,
    I'm fifteen and I know what your going through. Ever since I can remember I've had weight problems! It sucked and made my life suck.  So, be logic. Don't go and try pills or "Miracle diets" 'cause most of them don't work- trust me. What you need to do is excersice and have fun doing it. I've lost a lot of weight just by having fun excersicing.
  This one time my grandma told me to just excersice and I said that I couldn't just do that because it wasn't fun to me. We got into an argument. Finally I just followed my own advice. I went and signed up for volleyball- my favorite sport and I lost weight doing what is fun to me. So do something that is fun for you. Cut down on size prortion and have your friends help you get motivated and have them near for talk and advice. I really hope you find what works best for you.

Exercising and watching how many calories u eat a day will help you lose weight. So play a lot, run a lot, and be active! And cut back on computer, phone, TV, etc... Also, whenever you want a snack, go for a fruit or vegetable, then some fatty food! That's all  i have to say!  So, be smart and Eat right! Thank You!

I used to be a really overweight child.  So I know how difficult this time must be for you.  As long there are no serious medical problems going on with you then losing weight or "getting skinny" will be rather easy.  You have to watch the amount of calories you take in you can not have too many.  Now that is hard for a kid but you have to limit your choices to healthy things as well. You must make sure that you get regular exercise.  If you want to eat a little something extra make sure you walk, run, or ride your bike a little while longer so you can endure your regular physical activity.  If you do that you should be okay and please don't trust any diet that produces extreme weightloss.  You may not get down to your ideal weight, but if you can no longer lose any more weight then that means that you are at the perfect weight for your body.  Good luck and I hope that i was able to help you.

I'm almost 15 years old and i don't feel like I fit in at school. All of the other girls are really skinny and thats how i want to be. I only weigh about 135 but my gut is huge. My mom said it was from all of the junk food I ate last year. How can I look like all of the other girls?
