I actually breed Dobermans and I personally think it would be two years of age. I think this because just because they are pyhsically mature, doesn't mean it is able to take care of puppies. for more info contact me at makou@sbcglobal.net

I breed pugs. Pugs mature faster than large breeds (such as Dobermans) and I'd say you could breed earlier than 2 years. Depending on how quickly the individual dog matures, I'd say a year to a year and a half is the earliest you should breed a female. The AKC permits registration of puppies from a dog bred at even younger than that, 8 months, but significantly under a year is really too young for any pug. Also, you should not breed a female on her first heat (which usually occurs between 6 to 8 months but could be later). A male should be at least 7 months old. If you have questions, your vet can probably ascertain whether your female is healthy enough and ready for breeding. When you do decide to breed, be sure that someone is present at the birth - pugs often cannot break the amniotic sac, and unattended births usually means a loss of most or all of the puppies.

A male can't normally breed until he is about 7-8 months old. But I would keep an eye on the just to be safe.
