97 ford exployer w/4.0(x) eng. slight miss when cold for 2...

97 ford exployer w/4.0(x) eng. slight miss when cold for 2 minutes,then ok. without a load engine quite at all speed ranges.under load it has a load spark knock.can lower noise by removing octane strap(retards eng 3deg).eng has no knock sensor. air temp sensor seems to be in specs.  car has power, ran cleaner for fuel injectors. any thougts on my plms
