I have a practical humidity measuring problem.
I'm trying to establish the duty of air conditioners by measuring enthalpy difference between the entering air and the leaving air, but I keep getting discrepancies in the leaving wet bulb temperatures.
I'm using grade 5 PT100 4 wire sensors, totally insulated apart from the lower 50mm where the wet sock covers them (should be accurate to better than +/- 0.05ºC). I'm also using mercury-in-glass thermometers marked every 0.1 degreeC.
My problem is that although the entering air conditions, both wet and dry bulb figures, agree between the PT100 and glass bulb thermometers, the leaving dry bulbs agree also, but the leaving wet bulb as measured by the glass thermometers is around 0.4 degrees lower than the PT100 temperatures. I have swapped entering for leaving wet and dry bulb thermometers but the problem persists.
I'm working around 27ºC entering air dry bulb, and my velocity is a bit low at 2 metres per second.
Any ideas?
