I have MS and own a very smart and loving large Lab mix....

I have MS and own a very smart and loving large Lab mix. Although I have researched the requirements to have him certified as a service animal, I was wondering if there was any way he could be listed as a medical neccesity. I live alone and he is my only companion. I have heard of some dogs recieving a Doctors statement that were accepted as such. Any info is greatly appreciated.
