I recently rented a car from Avis and was in San Clemente just sight seeing. I'm not from the area so I was trying to read street signs to get back to I-5 north, at the same time, I was approaching an intersection and noticed that the light was already yellow, I wasn't sure how long it had been so I kept going at a speed of about 20-25 mph.  Well ofcourse the light turns red and I'm in the middle of the intersection. The next thing I noticed are these 2 extremely bright flashes, one from behind the car and one from the front.  Now I know that I have been photographed running a red light and a citation is in the works, but can anyone tell me how the whole ticketing process works considering that it was done in a rental car and I will be returning to my home state of Florida in 2 days, also the amount of the fine(I have heard close to $300.00 for first offense).

My fiance and I were also in a rental car when we were ticketed for speeding.  All I can tell you is that it sucks with a rental car!  IF and WHEN the car rental place finds out about the ticket, they CAN charge you an extra fine.  Otherwise, the whole ticketing process is the same as if it were your own car.  Good luck!  We're still trying to fight ours.
