I am living in Indonesia with my Mac computer. I have a voltage regulator reducing the local 220 voltage to a 115 power strip in which I have my hard drive and printer plugged into. Yet I am still getting a very wicked shock when I touch metal parts on the hard drive, or even worse, when I USB my digital camera. While I am man enough to handle the pain, I am VERY worried that I will someday FRY the motherboard of my computer and be very unhappy in Indonesia.

Please advise.

I feel your pain, I also recently moved to Indonesia.  Most of the places where I live here don't have grounding so you're it when you make the connection.  If you get a power surge your stuff is at risk.  I suggest getting a UPS or Surgesuppressor and physical ground it.  I talking about a copper rod into the earth.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I was wondering if anyone would. When I return to the US this summer, I will certainly look into doing what you suggested. However, I am unfamiliar with copper rods in the ground, considering that my computer is on the second floor of my apt.
