I have a 1999 VW Jetta(Late model with the new 2000 body)that rattles when I speed up? I thing more likely it has to do with the exhaust system and could it be a gasket, bracket, or sometime else?

I have the same car (99 VW Jetta IV, 2.0) and had the same problem.  At first, when I reved the engine, the rattling sound happened, but then over a few weeks, just turning on the car caused it to really rattle like a can with screws in it.  I thought it may be a shield loose, but checked and the heat shield was fine.  It was the catalytic converter.  You need to replace it.  Go to ebay.com or google and type in as exact info as you can and see what kind of prices you can get.

Usually a plastic sidewalk scraper at the front under the bumper will act up at higher speeds when it has been broken or cracked! Check it out..you can easily remove it by pulling it off and no need to replace.
