Hi, I think I'm going to be bringing a Shih Tzu female pup...

Hi, I think I'm going to be bringing a Shih Tzu female pup home soon. I'm worried about housebreaking, as I've read they can be difficult to housebreak. My problem is I live in a 3rd floor apartment, so when it comes time to transition her to outside, I'm going to have to carry her down the stairs everytime she needs to go. Will this be confusing for her? Also, will I be able to train her to give me enough advance notice to get her down the stairs in time?

I'll be creating a small enclosed area with newspaper to train her. I'm going to be at work during the day, but I'll be able to come home 1-2 times during it to take her out, play, etc.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it!
