I am currently trying to do a hardware/software project - Remote Home Control System (controlling your home appliances e.g. lights(on/off), door/gate(open/close) while you're away. In monitoring your home remotely and having control of it.

The problem is, I'm not sure of what programming language for software(java or C++) interface, (e.g.VB)and types of hardware to use for best result.

And I am wondering how complex this project can be?
