I have a two-year old male APBT---he is the love of my life!!! We adopted him from a shelter when he was a year old. He is a fabulous dog, however, despite our numerous training efforts we have not been able to stop him from selectively snarling at guests who visit our house. This habit with him didn't even begin until several months after we adopted him--he was very friendly with everyone who came into our home in the beginning. Now, though he is friendly, loving and obedient with all of our close neighbors and family, he does snarl and snap at people he's either never met or doesn't seem to remember. Is there any way we can break him of this?

he's just doing what he is supposed to do
you can try socializing him by taking him to the park or petsmart just get him around people that might help.

I have an APBT and when I am alone in the house she growls at anyone that she has never met, mostly guys.  However when my boyfriend is around she never does that.  They do this only when they believe they have to protect you.  This is merely a warning.  If he was going to really do something he would.
