Have 5500 watt gas generator with 4 pin receptacle. Can the 2 110 volt lines be connected together into 1 line of 220 volts?
One single 220 wire plus neutral and ground comes from the house to the the well pump.I want to put a switch to open the 220 wire from the house and connect the generator 220 to the existing wire to the pump. And leave the existing neutral and ground connected as is to the pump. Also tie the generator neutral and ground to the existing wires. The switch will allow only one source of power either direction.
Is this reasonable?
