hey i got mine done last saturday by a really good piercer. i did a bunch of research and stuff to make sure that the place was clean, they sterilized their stuff, and that they knew what they were doing. he was really really nice, and asked me if i was scared, and i was like, umm yea sorta, the thing is, i have a huge problem with needles, but i completely blocked that out because i wanted it so bad, and it isnt like a shot, theyre just pushin it through a little flap of ur skin! im really scared of shots, but this wasnt a big deal even though the needle was bigger. he used a titanium ring, which is the most hypoallergenic. all of yall talk about pussing and redness n stuff.. if its really drastically red or whatever, its probably an allergic reaction to the barbell or ring or whatever. or, u just didnt clean it well enough. what u have to watch out for is cleaning it too much. i have antibacterial soap and the cleaning fluid that they gave me at the place, and i use each of those once a day, like, the soap in the morning and the cleaning fluid in the evening or the other way around. it can become overly irritated if u clean it more than 2 times a day, and plus, thats not letting it heal. also, when ur lying in bed, lift up ur shirt so ur belly is exposed, and pull down ur sheets down so they arent touching ur belly, to let it have air. thats what helps it heal, just all that air going around it. mine never even bled, and it was never red. i just have one scab on the top and its gonna fall off soon. the only times that it hurts are when i lean over completely, putting pressure on it, or if i accidentally snag it. just try not to play with it, its really hard to resist the urge to play with it because its so cute, especially the barbells. make sure u get a color that looks really good on your skin, and that goes with most of your clothes and ur swimsuits. i got a titanium silvery barbell with blue rhinestones on the top and bottom part, bc i have blue eyes and i wear blue a lot. i had 3 of my friends with me and my mom with me and they all agreed on that one. it was great having moral support, and thats what you should do. i definitely dont recommend piercing it urself because a pro can tell how shallow to put the piercing and exactly where to put it. i dont have much body fat on my stomach, its pretty much all muscle, so he put it pretty shallow. when i put my finger on the space between the two end bits, the gap, i can feel the actual barbell under my skin. that shallow. it also depends on the shape of your belly button. so, u should definitely go to a pro. make sure that they have plenty of experience, and if they spend a long time telling u how to clean it and if they can answer every single question u have, and add extra tidbits of advice, then theyre good. after i got it done, i felt really woozy, and the piercer was watching me like a hawk. when i started getting dizzy, he rushed over to me (he was in the middle of a tattoo during that time that i was sitting down), and practically carried me over to the chair, had me lie down, and he dabbed my forehead and my neck with a cool washcloth. if u find a place who really cares about their clients and has a lot of experience, ur all set. its really worth it in the end, and it wows the guys.. lol, but the week before u get it, do a bunch of crunches and stuff like that so it'll look really nice (it hurts to do crunches and put pressure on it the first few days) so you'll be all set for a few days. good luck!!
