How to write the data from one file(file1) to another file(file2). If the data into file2 has to be written at a particular position (say at col 10 , 15 etc.) how this is possible with awk ?

cat file1|awk '{
printf "%10s%5s%s\n","",$1,$2
}'>file2

this will print 10 blank and then using 5 chars for $1
