What  is meant by resolution? What is dpi or ppi? How does it affect resolution?

a resolution is used in the context of output quality either or the monitor, printer or any other output device.
dpi means dots per inch. the more dpi means the picture will be so sharp and more of quality.

For printers and other output devices resolution is the quality of output - More dpi (dots per inch) then better the quality.

For monitors, dpi also refers to dots per inch. For example, a setting of 72 dpi for your monitor - This would mean that it takes 72 of those monitor pixels to make up and inch. The higher the dpi setting, the more information you can fit on the screen at once.

Exactly resolution means output quality.
dpi means dots per inch more dots more clear the information.
