I have an 2000 jetta 2.0 that is overheating and the heater...

I have an 2000 jetta 2.0 that is overheating and the heater is not blowing hot air.I do not believe it is the water pump because the water is circulating. I was told that the cooling system has an air lock in it. If this is possible could somebody explain to me how to bleed the system. thanks
