I have a 1995 Buick LeSabre Custom with 30,000 miles. The service engine light has come on and off for the past 3 months. I tried testing the OBDII system with my Actron tester but the tester cannot read the car. I called the dealer and they said the vehicle is in the flip year, although it is a 1995 OBDII system, the after market service engine light testers will not recognize the car's computer. You could imagine how thrilled I was to hear that considering they charge $98.00 to diagnosis it. In any event I changed the PCV Valve, air filter, checked all emission hoses and replaced all the cracked ones. I also performed an experiment. I disconnected the main battery to reset the service engine light, (I don't know any other way to reset the engine light), then I disconnected each and every wire harness connection to all the different sensors in the car. I than checked to see if each unplugged sensor would cause the service engine light to come on after starting the car.(I did all the sensors one at a time and reset the battery every time) All of them set the service engine light to come on except the EGR Valve. Maybe that's because the EGR Valve isn't used by the computer all the time. In any event, I have 2 questions, one, is there an easier way to clear a service engine light on a 1995 (OBDII) Buick Lesabre 3.8 V6? And what would you suggest I do about the service engine light. KEY POINT** Every once and a while the car putters, then catches it's idol again, sometimes the engine light turns on without the car puttering. A new EGR Valve is $244.00. I 'm assuming it does not need a tune up considering it runs perfect 99% of the time. I'll wait to hear from you and thank you very much.
