We just recently got a new 1/2 chi, 1/2 Jack russell puppy. He's such a wonderful addition to the family. We are a little concerned about his upbringing. We got him when he was 8 wks old. He's 10 weeks today. I've already taken him to the vet twice. He had fleas, he didn't get any of his vaccinations, and he has worms. He's had blood and mucus in poop.  (Both of which are being dealt with) He doesn't appear to have anything else wrong with him. He's a little bundle of energy. He's got a biting problem that we are working on but he is a puppy so that's understandable. I think he would be great with the potty training. He won't pee in the bed (he sleeps in bed with my husband and I) and he won't pee when you're holding him. He goes the minute we take him outside. He's great. He has had a few accidents in the house but we have wood floors so easily cleanable. My question is about litter training. My husband and I work and are gone 8 hours a day. We have Nixon blocked off to the paper lined kitchen. (Actually today was his first day all alone..Poor thing..I think I have more separation anxiety that he will!) I want to try the litter box, but am concerned with all the issues that we've already had with him of making any situation worse for him. I'm worried about him eating the litter. He puts anything and everything in his mouth. Would bitter apple spray deter him from actually going to the bathroom in the box? I feel like a new mother with him. Getting a puppy was mine and my husband's idea before we decide to have children. We have just fallen in love with little Nixon and his antics and I would hate to be the cause of making any situation worse for him. Can anyone offer any advice? (Long question, I know..I'm sorry)
