Hi there,

By a 'bark into an err' do you mean ...
He puffs his chest, raises his head and howls a bit like a wolf?  

If yes, well yep our Shih Tzu does that too.
They can be quite loud for little dogs, can't they.  But aren't they cute!!!

If you mean he has a funny bark, or, kind of barks and growls at the same time, my Shih Tzu have not done this, but, they are known for what is called talking.

From what I understand this becomes more noticeable as they get older.  We have a neighbor who has an older female and she does this all the time.  The more they talk back to her the more she does it.  The sound she makes is much different than her growl.

my dog is a 1 year old german sheperd mix we think he is part coyate becuse he looks like one,but he howls but it is no just a howl and guss what he will  aculaly will look at you and TALK TO YOU!!1 is my dog crazy?

i just purchase a shih tzu and I have not heard it bark not once and it has been several hours. Is this normal?
