I have a 1987 Dodge Dakota and when I arched the starter to start it one day, the transmission stopped working... it just won't engage at all.  Do you have any clues as to why?  I'm going to change the filter and see if that might be it, but if anyone knows anything I sure would appreciate a response.  email me at MIKIAMOORE@YAHOO.COM
