Please tell me that this is a joke and you are not hitting these dogs!  These puppies are going to be big powerful dogs and you are only teaching them to be aggressive.  The reason you are having so many problems is that you need to be crate training them.  Look up the info on the web on how to do it.  It's easy.  If they are only "pottying" indoors when you leave, it may due to anxiety, esp if you have physically punished them when you returned.  They think you are hitting them because you are home, not because of what they did.  Rotts are not a dog that you can afford to beat into submission.  You will end up with dogs that will fight back.  Please get the book "rottweilers for dummies" as a start.  Rent it from the library if you have too.

This works!
Try rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball.
Do not saturate, just a small amount will do.
When the dog goes in the house get the cotton ball with rubbing alcohol on it and place it in their mouth.  It will not harm them, just bitter.
They will spit it out. That's OK.
Tell them "BAD DOG"! Show them what they did.
Then take them outside and tell them to do their business there and praise them when they do and talk soft and nice to them outside.
Then go back in the house and repeat the alcohol and cotton ball again, then outside. You need to do this 3 times.
Finally, clean up the mess sprinkle alcohol on the floor or carper (Will not damage either).
The dog will smell it and relate it to a bad experience.

You will have your dog trained in 2 weeks!

Rebe, I am going to try your suggestion. I sure hope it works. This may be the answer.

As for cleaning up these lovely little messes and to prevent them from going in the same places, I've found a solution today. It's all about using the right stuff and doing it the right way.

Urine and feces have protein in them that only enzymes can eliminate. Using an enzyme cleaner such as Capture pet stain and odor remover sold at Lowe's, saturate the carpet with the enzymes so that it gets down to the padding. Place a plastic bag over the area and put a heavy object on top so it stays wet for at least 24 hours. This allows the enzymes to break down the proteins. After that, remove the plastic and allow it time to dry. This may take a week to fully dry but it is worth it. Your pet will stop going to the same area based on odor. Good Luck!

DO NOT hit these dogs.  As before you are only teaching them violence. Do not say a word about the mess just clear it up.  Telling them off will make it worse.  Anyone who tells you different should not be allowed to keep dogs.  Your problem has arisen from the fact that you have too many dogs and there is confusion amongst the pack.  You need to assert yourself as the alpha of the pack.  This is done by ignoring them when you enter the house of the room.  Read Jan Fennells book the dog listener.

Well hate to join everyone else, but, hitting  rott/lab makes the aggressive.. I have 2 (I would have more if the city would let me)take a rolled up news paper and tap there noses and say no... of course thats for pups. at this agree if there still peeing in your kitchen, there most likely are not going to stop.... Sir Lucky was my worst to train... and Bear was the easiest. I had a poodle (passed on now :() that refused to go out side and the boys would follow in suit I got out my paper and threatened them... with it but to no avail they still peed... After angel was gone.. there were no more accidents.... wishing you you luck..

You people who think its OK to hit dogs, or even tell them they are bad, are extremly ignorant. How dare you abuse these poor animals. Stop being so lazy and try reading a BOOK on dog training.
Potty training takes weeks and even months of consistant work. If you can't handle it, give these poor dogs to decent human beings and stop hurting them.

The idiots who hit and put alcohol into their dogs mouths should not have animals!
And yes, do the alcohol thing and YES you can kill your dog.  You'll be lucky not to have an aggressive biting dog who hates you and goes on your floor even more.
It takes time and patience, go to your vet for help - research.  Idiots!!

Many dogs don't respond well to being beaten.  I'm pioneering/testing a new training method with my dogs, anytime they poop on the floor, I throw it at them then make them watch as I defecate in their sleeping area.  So far I'm seeing improvement.

screaming loudly "bad dog..bad potty!" with a nice smack on the rear works nicely ..despite what u other tree huggers think.  Followed with a "good dog, Good OUTSIDE potty!" Sure it took some time but with the same "routine" they WILL learn.

You need to crate the dogs when they are not attended. Do not let them be in the house without being crated, or on leashes. You'll never housebreak them.
The people who said put alcohol in their mouths or hit them is too stupid to be alive, let alone own a dog.
Consult a freaking trainer but do NONE of the other things suggested except CRATE and do not let the dogs roam the house unattended EVER until PROVEN to be housebroken.

I find it hard to believe that someone would put rubbing alcohol in a dog's mouth.

My god..... what utter stupidity!  Are you trying to poison them.  I don't think that would keep a dog from going to the restroom.  They would probably wonder what the heck you were doing.

If you can catch them in the act, take them out at that point and say nothing.  If they continue to use the restroom outside, praise them.

Use positive enforcement, not negative.

If you don'gchange your tactics, you will regret it one day.  Hitting a rott?  Have you lost your mind?

You would be batter off with a cat and a litter box.

Gah! DO NOT hit the dogs and DO NOT try Rebe's suggestion! Listen to lorry, she knows what she's talking about. Please, for the sake of the dogs and the intelligence of humankind, READ A BOOK ON DOG TRAINING! Look it up on the internet! Anything but listening to people who tell you to hit your dog or yell at it or put alcohol in its mouth. Don't rub its nose in it, either.
You can tap them on the nose, but not hard. NEVER them.

You guys are all animal loving homosexuals. I have a German Shepherd, who I would beat when he would bark at me, deficate or urinate in my house, or bite anyone in my family. It's been 3 years and I have the most loyal and intelligent dog you retards can imagine. The people who tell you not to hit your dog are demented retards who don't care when humans die but will cry for hours when an animal does. It makes me sick.

I've found that with most breeds, a good thrashing at a young age does tend to create a more placid and obediant dog. Wouldn't reccomend it with dogs that can grow up to be strong and aggressive but worked great with my beagles and collies over the years, and others have had similar results. You don't need to do it constantly, and it wouldn't be recommended as the dog will distrust you - but just a few times til the dog gets the idea about who is the boss and what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour.

then take them out every half an hour and do the same.over time the peeing in the floor will disapate.and no matter what they do good or bad show them love.sometimes thats all they need is more assurance.it seriously helped me.

Hell,
do NOT smack your dog if he does his business indoors and then usher him outdoors you moron, you are training them to associate a punishment with going outdoors the opposite of what you want. Dog's are dumb, they think "wow I got a spanking and then shown the outdoors therefore it is a bad thing to go outdoors as this is part of the punishment, it must be good to poop in the kitchen!" Where do you idiots get your ideas, from the same old wife who says it is a good idea to rub their noses in it when they pee indoors, stoopid...stoopid...STOOPID!!!

I own a Boston Terrier, a very small dog. I don't want to say that it is ok to feed your dog alcohol in any form beer or liquor, however, I have. I give my boston a few sips of beer here and there. She seems fine when we do, she's a beautiful dog and we take great care of her. People have tried to make me feel bad but I practically think of my dogs as humans and if we can do it why cant they. They are smaller and they don't know what it is what we're giving them but if they didn't want it they wouldn't drink it. A human that pounds down 5-10 beers or more in one sitting, whats so bad to compare it to 1/4 of 1/2 a beer for a dog?? We don't hit or seclude or abuse our dog, and if you do damn you, but hey, if a beer or a shot gets us through now and then, who's to say our animal doesn't do just a little bit of good by it????

I adopted a very large dog from an animal sanctuary and he was  1 1/2 years old at the time.  This dog had never been house broken and was still urinating on newspaper inside the sanctuary's house.  When he came to live with me, I took him out all the time and miracuously he always went outside.  However, one day he decided to relieve himself on my hardwood floors.  He did this twice and unfortunately I did not catch him at the time.  If they urinate and you do not catch them at the time there is nothing you can do.  They have very short memories.  After those 2 episodes, I decided to keep a close watch on him and crate him when I could not.  Then one day it happened.  He began to urinate on my hardwood floors.  I shouted "No!"  I appeared very upset and he looked at me like "what the heck happened?"  He had never heard me upset before.  Somehow he was able to stop the peeing in mid pee!  I proceeded to urgently show him out of the house, but went with him.  When he continued outside, I praised him.  He did it one more time and thank God I caught him again.  We did the same thing.  After that, he never ever did it again in my house!  It is all about common sense, taking the time to be with them, and teaching them how to behave.  It is not about putting alcohol in their mouth or hitting them.  Dogs are very smart and learn quickly - we just have to make ourselves available to teach them - just like teaching a child how to behave properly.

Punishing a dog after the fact will not work. Dogs do not get this. It just makes the problem worse, because your dog will become anxious. If you catch the dog in the act, make a loud noise and say "No!". Lead him to where you would like him to eliminate and say an elimination phrase like "Get Busy" or "Go Potty" (if you are the type that has a dog to substitute for a kid. I think "Go Potty" is lame! But I digress... It is better than beating your dog). When he has gone in the right place, give him praise and a treat (slowly ween him off the treats as his training progresses).

NEVER lay a hand on your dog or beat him. The worst you can do is to grab the scruff of his neck and tug on it as hard as another dog of the same breed would. If you have a 3 pound Chihuahua, this is a very gentle tug. Or spray him in the face with a low-powered squirt gun or spray bottle (not a super soaker). But realize, negative reinforcement is not as effective as positive reinforcement. Both types of reinforcement only work at the time of the incident. If your dog eliminated on the floor 15 minutes ago, pointing it out and hitting him will not make any sense. He will not know why you are being such an a-hole (and anyone who hits their dog is an a-hole, and so many have ruined dogs like this, I ended up getting my dog from a reputable breeder, and not the pound).

PLEASE take the time to read a one page guide on crate or paper training. Crate training is more effective, but paper training is easier for puppies that have just been weened.

http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/our_pets_for_life_program/dog_behavior_tip_sheets/crate_training.html

In case you have been living in a cave for the past 150 years, you may have heard of Ivan Pavlov, who discovered the power of positive reinforcement in canines. His studies led to advances in the field of behaviorism in humans as well. Positive reinforcement is much more effective than negative. Instead of punishing your dog for an accident, try rewarding him for doing it in the right place. My Chihuahua is 5 months old, and is considered a difficult breed to housebreak. I was having trouble at first, but then I made sure I had treats available. Whenever he went in the litterbox, I would praise him and give him a treat. Since I started doing this, he goes in the litterbox over 90% of the time. Scolding him (especially after the fact) just makes things worse.

Sorry for the uppity tone, but I am shocked at people beating their dogs and putting rubbing alcohol-swabs in their mouths. People should read at least 2 books on the breed of dog they are planning to get before they do so. I have never ever read a book about dog training where they suggest beating the dog or even scolding it after the fact. If you didn't catch him in the act, shut up and clean up the mess. You are doing more harm than good by employing these cruel training methods -- then the aggressive dog ends up biting someone and gets put to sleep. Or you get sick of the poorly behaving dog, and it ends up in the shelter.

This is why I would not adopt a dog. There are too many bone-heads that have ruined them. The majority of dogs in shelters have either been treated cruely, or have been obsessively pampered by people who have put no effort in learning how to train a dog.

Seriously... Read a book about it. It is not hard, but your intuition and "old wives's tales" on how to train dogs are not correct.

hitting your dog hard is not the anwser, but a tap on the nose wouldn't hurt. The easiest way to do this is to crate train. I have a golden he is wonderful he has his accidents here and there but he's only been with us for two months and he  is starting to get the hang of it! I am begging you not to put alchol in your dogs mouth it's like putting alchol in a baby's mouth. You people who think it's okay to do that to a dog, your crazy! If your really having trouble crate train or read a book on it!

All of you hippies are pathetic.  Your dogs probably sleep in the bed and you sleep on the floor.  I agree, should not beat a dog for any reason, however corpal punishment does work if it is consistent with time and love.  A spanking done the right way will not produce aggresive behavior.  Neglect and abuse causes this behavior.  Since the dawn of man, humans have used physical discipline in many aspects of life, with positive results.  Dogs are not humans.  They do not the same mental and emotional capabilities.  If you want your dog to be obedient punish it when it does wrong and reward it when it does good.  Do this and you will have a dog that is good and knows who its master is.

Trying to house train 7 dogs at once is extremely difficult.  Try using kennels when you leave.  Dogs won't urinate where they sleep(usually). Do not hit a dog, ever.  When he has an accident, firmly tell the dog "no, bad dog," and show him what he did.  Be sure to completely clean the area with a cleaner specified for urine(such as Out!) so no scent of it is left.  And as everyone else has suggested, read a dog training book or speak to your vet about the issue and see what he suggests for your babies.
