is the author implying in section 3.15 of this FAQ that the USA was the first democracy of European people? what about the roman republic, founded on similar principles, or earlier, the ancient polis of Greece? True it was unique when it was founded but every democracy works differently. The real extent of American democracy is, of course contentious.
