oh well to be a punk you must have safety pisn everywhere and duct tape put on all your clothes you must shop at hot topic for everyeonthing you own and you msut where your old school converse good charlotte and sum 41 are thee best bands of punk if oyur a true punk you listen to them

don't be a poser! you don't have to put safety pins and duct tape! you don't have to listen to good charlotte or sum 41! they are the biggest sell-outs in the entire punk world... you can look at how punks dress by visiting websites... a good example is oxbloodoi.com

i think if you do want to be a punk safety pins and mainly black clothes are the best and no duck tape!!! well, if you listen to everyones advise your going to be a total looser which isn't good!if your a girl then pink and black and if your a guy black and blue or red are the best colors! to find out more e-mail me at Andrea9492@aol

You gotta be kidding me you guys are a big joke, punk is not about fashion or about music its about an ideal!  Punk is about rebelling against fasicts and controling government.  The website you put up there (oxbloodoi.com) promotes skinheads the biggest fasicts in history, if the person that posted that claims to be a punk he is going against everything punk stands for.  Anyway if you want to be a punk you have to belive in the idea of punk not the fashion or the music.

Read a book, be proactive, help others, thwart abusers, fight stereotyping, pick up a copy of Profane Existence. Sure the clothes add to the asthetic, but it's really about how you view the world and how you are willing to put in time to change the  repressive systems in our societies.

Punk is not about 'loud hard fast.' Its not about having a wild hairstyle or lots of black leather. Its about breaking away from the norm, doing something differently than its been done before...

Actually you cant 'become a punk' ... But heres a few things to know anyway: Music. Stop buying your music at the mall. When you buy your cd's at the mall, you're paying way too much for them, and the band you're hoping to support is getting only a teensy percent of the profit. Instead? Get online and buy them straight from the label. Or, better yet, pick it up when you see them live. For some bands, the only money they get while touring is from the merchandise and cd's they sell. Don't listen to music because you think you're supposed to. Just listen to what you like, be it punk, pop, country, goth, emo, whatever. Support your local scene. Find bands, go to their shows, throw a few bucks at them. If nothing else, you can say you're oldskool when they make it big. Carry on the 80's tradition: Make Mixtapes. Give them to friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, your dentist, whomever you please. Clothes/Fashion. Just stop trying. Wear what you like, wear what's comfortable. It doesn't matter. If you want to dye your hair blue, do it. If you want to wear spikes and plaid, do it. Just don't do it for the wrong reasons. Quit paying for the labels. Don't pay an extra $60 because it says 'the gap' on it. Paying for quality makes sense. Paying for labels doesn't. Etc. Quit judging people. That means everyone, even cheerleader jock types, or the so-called enemy. Don't be hypocritical. Stop buying anything at the mall. Support the mom and pop shops, and mail order. You'll get better stuff, and will be supporting the people who need it. DIY stands for Do It Yourself. Make your own duct tape wallet and bondage pants. Use an old shirt and a sharpie to make a patch for your coat. Just don't buy it if you can make it yourself. ---MAINLY--- The entire punk idea is to think outside the box, to go against the flow. Think for yourself, and the rest will fall into place

I think whoever wants to be punk can try. But you also have to be yourself when doing this. You can't be punk just so you can be different from everyone else, that's not what it's all about. It's about doing it for yourself and having fun. So if you wish to be "punk" do it with to questions asked, you don't need answers.

this is so damn pointless, if your asking people how to be punk it means your following THEIR example, and not being yourself. Listen to whatever you want, and be who you want to be. the stereo type punk is only something skin deep, if you like the look, then ok, but what i could call a real "punk" is someone with that certain kind of attitude that their Born With. But really, don't shoot for any look that doesn't fit who you are inside, otherwise you'll be lying to yourself and especially others, which is lame and in the end makes you look stupid.

a true punk could care less about what others think of them. like in one of the posts above, just wear whatever the hell you want n if you want something cheap, go to goodwill or salvation army, great places with great prices. i got a cool shirt there for like 50 cents!

Umm.. i dont no wat these people are saying Punk is being your own person and you wear things that you thinks looks good and it's different from anyone else. if you want to be a punk, do crap u want to do, i used to be in the hip hop scene a year ago but ive been skating over 6 years so i stopped wearing baggy shirts and got closr too punk, i still wear baggy pants cuz thats my style, all my other shoes like airforce 1 and other crap like that are spray painted black and have duct tape on them and are filled of my faveorite punk pands. do what u like dont ask ppl if u should wear sometin just do it. oh one more suggestion, dont hate jocks preps etc just cuz they are that only hate them if they have an attitude with u

nobody really means the "be yourself" cliche. most of these people that want you to be yourself so that they are way more punk than you. the ones that mean it are either friends or parents. also, hating the government isn't rebellious. my father hates Gordon Campbell. he is totally punk, apparantly...

Don´t ask other people how to be punk, ask yourself and answer yourself, create your own clothing style, like toilet paper on your neck or a sock like glove, ANY HOMEMADE CLOTHES, DO WHATEVER YOU WANNA DO!!! Hey the thing about punk isn't so much about knowledge or about what you wear or what you listen to the point of  punk is to shock to push the edges to be the way you want and push out against mass ideals and test the limits of society.  Be the way you want but looking for what clothes and what music to listen to(music is a big part of it though)  isn't going to make you a punk.  Watch out for posers GC Avril and don't always shop at hot topic or you'll be a wannabe

you cant become a punk by dressing like that or shopping a t hot-topic because hottopic is a huge ass poser store. you have to live the lifestyle if you haven't lived the hartdcore lifestyle all your life than basically a poser. but you could listen to punk music and go to shows and get in the pit thats pretty hardcore. but don't listen to like avril she a huge ass poser and she will never be punk same as Good Charlot!
