I bought a house and the kitchen light did not work.  I replaced ballast and bulb to no avail.  I started looking at switches and found a double throw, three way switch with three wires unconnected. 1 black, 1 red, one white.  the switch has i black connected on left, upper (dark) screw.  The white wire connected to top (light) screw, and the red connected on bottom (light) screw so there are six total wires in switch box but only three are connected.  This switch turns on a hallway light but the bottom throw doesn't do anything.  I also noticed another entry way double throw switch that works a dining room light and the bottom switch doesn't do anything.  I assume that the two inoperable throws operate the non working kitchen light which is located between the two.  How would I wire the switch with unconnected wires?
