2001 Chrysler Sebring 4 door coupe,  no heat.

I checked the gang of switches in the dash (my mom has the same car, i pulled them out and put it into hers to check)
the switch that turns the air from the heater core to the a/c condenser doesnt seem to be moving when you adjust temperature.  once again, i took off the switch assy that contains the motor that turns the duct, and put it into the test (mom's) car and it moves freely. is there a temperature sensor that tells that switch what position to be in to put the requested heat into the passenger compartment?  i have checked everything else i can think of, I'm out of my depth and the cold months are upon us!!  please help!
