I'm doing a research paper on the comparison and contrast of how Japanese perceive suicide to how Westerners perceive suicide. I've been searching for books on this, because it's required to have at least 1 book resource on the main topic. If anyone in this forum could please help me, by telling me what you know about the comparisons and contrasts in US/Japan suicides, or if you know any GOOD BOOK at all... please do recommend! This report is almost half my final grade... So I NEED help really bad.

I've found some books on Japanese Harakiri and Cultures, however they're not really as accurate, and some of those books are not available anymore (I searched on Amazon.com).

I need good and accurate information on modern-day suicide in Japan, because everytime I search for "Japanese suicide" online, the results are either "samurai honor," "harakiri/seppuku," and/or "kamekaze pilots."

By the way, I've heard of a rumor which turned out to be true (because it was shown on the news) about the increase in "ijime" crimes (ijimeru means roughly to tease or harass), and victims would go online, meet up with other victims, and commit suicide together. I have to find more information on that!! And also, it would be great if you guys would recommend a book on how Japanese perceive suicide these modern days. (I need at least 1 book resource!)

Another branch topic that must be included is how assisted suicide is perceived by Westerners, compare and contrast with how Japanese perceive it. Should doctors help their dying patients die to ease their suffering, or is it a crime? (I actually have some information on this, but only about how the US, particularly how California is dealing with assisted suicides; I have no information on Japan's view on this though). I'm having a really hard time contrasting Japan and US because I can barely find any accurate and current events on Japanese suicides.

What I THINK I know though is, Japanese people tends to think that suicide is a bravery(?), compare to how Westerners think that suicide and/or assisted suicide is a crime and a BIG sin (because most Americans are Catholic Christians). But these are not even facts. This is just something I think I know.

So any opinions, ideas, and most importantly SOURCES will be a great help to me! Thank you, and I'll appreciate your help so much!
