Is it true that if you get a tattoo you cannot donate blood ever again?

Not true. The min. wait time is 12 months

You must wait a minimum of 12 months.  I tried to give blood and was asked when I had my last tattoo work done and was told it had not been 12 months - that I had to wait at least 12 months.

dazednconfused is right, i volunteer at blood drives all the time and you have to wait 12 months for tattoos and body piercings.

Yes, you definitely have to wait at least 12 months since last time of tattooing before giving blood, in England. That goes for body piercing as well.

It's definitely 12 months cos my b/f does tats and i had 1 done without even thinking to check and now cannot give blood.

NO you can't because ink goes into your blood.

YES,YOU HAVE TO WAIT AT LEAST 12 MONTHS BEFORE DONATING BLOOD. (THAT GOES 4 BODY PIERCINGS AS WELL)
